I did the pull and wash thing for the 1st 5 years - it was a PITA. plus the boat was in Grand Haven - it was nasty after just a couple of weeks. I went and did the bottom paint and it was a great time saver. I did it myself right on the trailer, just used a 10Ton bottle jack to lift each side a couple of inches. worked great.

Call it Winter blues, to much time on the weekend in February, or just planning for a great summer. I had a couple times last summer after a few barely pops:p, trying to recall :confused:what lure we had down on each rod. Now I did not keep a log last summer, but I do plan on keeping one for this coming. Picture of log Logs are great, but the way I setup my sheet would be fish caught, not what is in the water or has been in the water. So, I took pictures of each spoon, flasher, dodger, & j-plug that I currently own. I printed those out in color and laminated the sheets to help protect them from the weather. Each item is about ½ to ¾ wide and 2†long. I glued a piece of sheet magnet to the back side of each picture. I store the magnetic picture sheet with the lure. I bought a 9x14†magnetic white board for $6 My plan is to use the white board as reminder of what is in the water. Since it is a white board I could also quick write the time that lure went into the water. Its big enough to read, yet small enough to fit up on the dash. this is what happens when an Engineer who learns to fish...

Mike- you and the family will really enjoy SH lots more to do with the family if you spend the weekend out on the boat. Muskegon is a great place to store your boat & to fish from. but not much for the family to do. enjoy

finding the temp break is what I really am missing. like ken stated I'm ok when he is with me and I have his pocket temp gage. I just have not been able to find a gizmo like his.

Well I think I might just hold out for one more season. went without one last summer (1st year) about a dozen trips out I was able to haul in 60+ fish and only had one skunk. we did watch the wire on the riggers and the bend in our divers. if this works again, I'll stick to the old school. I already have two FF on board so that should help.

nice ride Doug, you will enjoy it.

All right, I have been reading "Keating on Kings" now for the past two days. the one thing that he states over and over again temp & depth, temp & depth. this is the biggest thing I am missing for my spring slaughter of kings, a depth, speed & temp sytem. So with that, I'm think the next major investment needs to be a depth temp and speed system. Now - I have read alot of post already on the site. what is going to give me the biggest bang for my bucks. a used Fish Hawk 840? a new Fish Hawk X-4? Sub-Troll? (from what I read I like this unit the best) a used Cannon? The new & improved Cannon? Depth Raider? so I either need to add this type of a system or just get on the radio and beg for information on the temp break.

I think you would want to use a Tung oil. that will give is a gloss look, but if you want to brighten up the teak I would wipe down the teak first with a 2/3 hot water / 1/3 Bleach mix. that should remove any grease/ wax build up first or Denatured Alcohol. (just don't drink it Ken) just my thoughts on this. or you can get products at West Marine to clean and seal. http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SiteSearchView?jspStoreDir=wm51&catalogId=10001&Ne=712&N=377+710+1002&langId=-1&omniTag=Category%3aPaint%2c+Varnish+%26+Teak+Oil§ion=shop&Nr=AND%28Record+Type%3aPRODUCT%2cStore%3aWESTMARINE%29&storeId=10001&page=CategoryDisplayLevel1

alignments not tough, just needs to be right. I have a Merc - 5.7l to Alpha I I did checked mine and had to do a small adjusment when I put on a new outdrive 5 years ago. a co-worker had an alignment shaft already. he had made his own at the shop we worked at. this link will show you what an alignment tool will look like. http://www.mercstuff.com/images/modification.jpg

thanks Frank, I've had her for 14 year now, 2 years ago tried to sell to get out of boating, then last year I fished with Ryan just once, look what happened, she went from being the family camper to a fishing machine. the gps I bought last season was my first. I had the fish finder only for depth.

you see in my dash not much room for a big screen GPS, from left to right Radio, GPS, Fish Graph

Sounds like some one might have to get charter out of Cancun - or Cozemel... sooooon. atleast ground hog is comming up soon.

Frank, the Garmin 440 I bought was around $450 at West Marine, another $80 for a new tranduser, and being electical / water nervous - added the 2yr extened wart. for another $50. the only issue I had with it was trying to run both my older Lowarance fish finder that was mount right next to it. but after playing with it for a couple hours we figure out how to change the Freq hz to another setting and they both worked fine. this way I could leave the gps on Map and still see fish - or lack of fish on the other. I'll try to upload a photo that may show where I mounted them. I'm limited on dash space is another reason I picked this unit. the only draw back with this model is the screen size it is small, but very clear and easy to read - even without my glasses. jon

I picked up a Garmin 440c (i think that was the model, I know it was in the 400 series) last summer just before we headed north with the boat. I picked this one becasue it did have the Maps built in. it also has a setting so you can have no detail to lots of detail. I was surprised how much detail was shown. you could even get phone numbers for the marinas off this unit. when zoomed in you could see the slip in Ludville. and it keep our butts out of hot water when we went out of Hessel in the UP. Lots of rocks just under the surface that were marked on the map, plus one night we came in way after sunset and the GPS lead us right back to the dock & keep us off from the rocks. I would have never found the ramp otherwise. I was very happy with the unit I bought.

last year was my first as well, what a blast it is to be reeling in a big hog, went once on my buddy Ryan's boat last May:D, was on craigslist that weekend, & by June had a set of downriggers, & 4 rods & a net, by July a few more rod holders. Now I have up the rod count to 14 & have trees ready to install. can wait for spring. I think the boat will come out of storage mid March so I can have it ready for the Brown Blast.

Welcome aboard Tim, good luck with that new boat. as far as respooling, any mono for riggers I would just do it now. any braided line for your dispys if the spool is fully loaded just peal off 100-150 foot and call it good. if you have any wire or copper just check for kinks. Lead core look at the condition of the outer cloth. if it looks frayed or torn get rid of it. you can loose alot of lures or setups ($$:eek:money:angry2:$$) real quick with line that is not up to the job.

great words of wisdom Mark, I ended up buy a couple of CV55 Okuma loaded with copper this winter. they are very large & heavy. I hope to not have the tangled mess. you still up for going out this spring?

I downloaded a 209 parts list and have the screw numbers from that. let me know when you get your list together and we can get a hold of Tuna Tom's.
