  1. We have been trying to find out where they catch the whitefish on Higgins lake. So we went to one of the bait shops there(not the Phoenix) and was told to fish in this one spot in 90 feet of water. Then I got a phone call from a friend that talked to the same shop over the phone and was told to go in 40 feet of water in the same area. This bait shop will never get my business again. You would think they would want to tell people the truth so they will come back.I can't understand what the big deal is about the whitefish there. We ended up contacting someone that fishes for them and was told right where to go to catch them. Which by the way was no where near where the shop told us to go.
  2. Well we got another 111 smelt at higgins on Thurs.
  3. Thank you. Might be going again this weekend. But they are having a fishing derby there on Sat.Might have to go Fri. instead.
  4. Got another 118 smelt at Higgins on Sat. the 13th.
  5. I run a Spin Doctor and fly.
  6. Great fish. I haven't ice fished for steelhead in years. You got me thinking I should go.
  7. Do you still think the salmon move north. But there are some at the northern ports year around.
  8. We got 111 smelt at Higgins on Sun. from 6:00 - 9:00 in 38 feet of water.
  9. Thanks for the report. Nice to hear they are starting to bite. Might get there this weekend.
  10. Has anyone been out on Higgins yet for smelt? Had a friend go for lakers but he didn't even get a hit.
  11. Thanks guys. Are there any places that I can buy off the internet?
  12. I was wondering where in Michigan I can get some herring for fishing salmon. Either whole or strips.
  13. Thanks guys for putting back some confidence in me.Maybe in a week or so they will show up in big numbers.I don't think it is to early I have caught them in this same area in the beginning of July, 2 years ago.
  14. I have never had trouble catching them before. I am usually the one that is catching them and other people aren't around me.
  15. Now what can I do to get rid of the interference when I am going more than 6mph. The screen just goes full of interference and I can't see anything. But it still reads the depth.
  16. I have been out 5 times in the last month and have yet to catch a salmon. I am starting to wonder if my new graph is throwing out a negative charge in the water and repelling the fish. I am fishing out of Charlevoix and once at Petoskey. I am marking a lot of fish down 100 -140 in 130 - 160 feet of water.
  17. In picture #3 you can see all 4 riggers.
  18. if the thermocline is in the 30's then why would 56 degrees be at 80 feet down.and surface was in the low 60's.
  19. I was wondering if you could look at the photos I posted in the gallery of snapshots of my humminbird when I was out salmon fishing last time. Is the first one clutter or bait? And the third on, is it bait or small fish on top? Also how high of a sensitivity should I be using?
  20. First weekend in Aug. A week after a tournament. Front after front.Thunderstorms mixed in the week before. Sunny on the day fished but there could be scattered showers and storms. Have never fished this port before.
  21. But with mine the ones that are off, the balls are actually 10 -20 feet deeper than what the counter says. And that is a problem when I am running close to bottom.
  22. Where did you fish? Was it in front of the Coast Guard station or the back side of the island?
