  1. Good job on the fish. Things have been very tough out of S. Haven lately. We went out saturday too and did got a 15lb and a 10lb king in 140 fow. We marked those schools too and couldn't get a single hit in them.
  2. Nice job on the fish. Now days up on Drummond a 15lbr is big!!! GJ
  3. Another really slow day of fishing. Only got one fish which was a king on a killer dolphin stacker 43 down in 115 fow. That was the only hit we had all day and we tried everything:confused: What are we doing wrong? Are we keeping our presentation to high in the water column? We had the downriggers at 57 and 47 for awhile with spinnies and flies and even tried them deeper for a lil bit. We varied our speeds and direction. We also marked a ton of fish! Well the perch wasn't very good either. Got about 25 in a few hours but they were all good sized and we threw a lot back. 47 fow was the good spot for us. Next week were off to Maniste to try are luck there:)
  4. It was a pretty slow morning out on the lake as far as salmon were concerned. One shaker on a flounder pounder on the DR 40 down in 80 fow. Also got a big coho on a green orange crush on the Braided Dipsy set on 3 75 back in 100. Missed a fish on blue spinnie with no see um fly. Then went perch fishing and picked up about 30 fish in 57 fow with a few jumbos mixed in. We ran into Jarod (J1musser) and it was pretty cool to get to talk to him. We are going to try again tomorrow with hopefully better luck!
  5. Hey Jarod it was nice to meet you out there today! We will be taking another crack at it tomorrow morning and I will let you know how we do.
  6. We usually stayed in the passage but did go out past the lighthouse once and had a few hookups including a nice fish that we lost at the boat. We hooked this fish right in between the ferry docks in ~100 fow. Thanks, Justin
  7. Sorry I'm late on the report. We fished at least once every day. The salmon fishing was pretty slow but there are still lots of lake trout for the taking. Our biggest king was 16.7#s and good enough for fourth place:D The best color for us was purple. We also lost another big fish at the boat:mad: Monday morning because of the fog and storms we went up to see the Soo Locks and on the way saw two huge wolves!! The weather was amazing, each day was mid 70s or low 80s and only it only rained once:no:
  8. We have gone up there every year for the past couple of years and I am pretty sure that is my favorite place ever!!!! The Salmon Fest is going on, so that should be fun. We usually do pretty good on the walleye in 4-6 fow drifting crawler harnesses its a blast. The smallmouth hit good around the islands also:grin: Thanks guys, we will post a report when we get back because we wont have internet access up there.
  9. Ran out to 70 fow and was marking some fish so we set lines. Seemed like we marked a lot about 60 foot down and also a lot of bait fish. Fished all the way out to 115 and nothing. Turned back in and in 88 fow the swr 57 down with a blue spinnie and blue bubble fly went. Nice king ~15 pounds:no: Trolled around that area for a little while longer without anything happening. We decided to run in and try for perch. The fishing was pretty good in about 32 fow in front of Deerlick and in front of the 1st dune. Picked away at them for awhile before it was time to go in. It was nice and cool out there this morning! Now were headed up to Drummond Island for a week, I cant wait.
  10. I was just wondering how many people are fishing in the salmon fest. We will be up there for the week and are staying on Drummond Island. How has the fishing been? What colors have been working good? Thanks, Justin:no:
  11. For a couple of years before we had downriggers we used 1 pound lead balls with 2 Church clips on each. It was very easy to tell when there was a fish on and you just take the weight off like you would a planer board and then continue to fight the fish. We never lost a weight. Our most productive setup, as said above, was 10 and 5 colors of 27lb leadcore. Hope this helps and good luck.
  12. Fished South Haven this morning for this first time in a long time. Ran north a little ways and then set up in about 70 fow heading SW. Went out to 110 and then back and didnt get anything. In 74 fow in front of the dunes the downrigger with a killer dolphin 43 down went. This felt like a very very nice fish and after a short run snapped the line:angry2:. A little while later in 80 fow the SWR 60 down with a lemon ice tripped. After another short fight this fish came unbuttoned:mad: Same set up in 76 fow took a laker. Then on the way in, in 90 fow a braided dipsy with a dirty harry 170 back on #2 fired. This felt like a pretty good fish and sadly got off. We usually have a better hook up ratio but i guess it just wasn't our morning. Ended up 1 for 4.
  13. Thanks for the info Frank.
  14. Nice job as usual. I have a quick question...what style of blades do you normally use? Thanks
  15. Sorry I forgot to mention this but one of the perch I caught had a big alewife hanging out of its mouth. I thought that was pretty cool.
  16. We are hoping to get back out there this weekend too. Hopefully they cooperate!
  17. We decided to try for some perch this morning. Ended up with 33 fish kept and threw back some small ones. Didnt catch real big fish but they were decent sized. Fished a little bit north of Palisades in 25-30 fow. When we finally started getting the fish pretty steady it was time to go. Oh well haha if we stayed we prolly could of worked for a limit, it was a ton of fun and no bugs! Also no gobbies were caught!
  18. We marked some schools of bait fish on the bottom in about 120 fow. Im guessing they were alwives. O and no kidding we had a guy come by right off our bow all opened up in his big ol boat when we were trolling. not cool
  19. A pretty slow day out on the water today. Went 2 for 2. 11.5 pound king and a laker both hit blue dolphin 68 down on DR in 119 and 110 fow. We were a couple miles south of the pier. Hardly even marked a thing. Sounded like we even did better than most guys. The bugs were pretty bad, none the less it was really fun!
  20. We fished Manistee again today and ended up 10/11. We kept 2 nice kings, 2 lakers, and 2 smaller kings that werent gonna live if we put em back. Took most of the fish in the 200-300 fow range but no perticular pattern. Set ups that took fish were -braided dipsy set on 2 121 back with a blue dolphin spoon -down rigger 101 down with a killer dolphin spoon and a NBK on a stacker 20 feet up -SWR with a twister early in the morning and a blue glow frog on a stacker 20 up -5 color core with 4oz wieght and a electric koolaid spoon Listening to the radio it sounded like they were getting some steelies out in about 700 fow. It was a beautiful day and the lake was flat.
  21. We fished Manistee this morning for the first time and ended up 7 for 10. Kept two nice kings, both came on a killer dolphin spoon 101 down on the down rigger in 165 and 220 fow. Had a very nice fish scream line and then break it on a Ludington Special 108 down on the DR in 320 fow. We caught and released 4 small cohos. one hit ludington special 40 down on the DR in 130 fow. Got a nice steelhead on 5 color core and a seasick spoon in 174 fow and got a coho on the same set up in 87 fow. A coho took a ice frog on a braided dipsy 250 back on #2 setting in 205 fow. Also took a coho on the DR 101 down on a killer dolphin in 324 fow. Kept our speed right around 2.8 and just zigged and zagged back and forth. It was a beautiful morning and the port was very nice:D.
  22. We fished from 40-60 fow. Apparently they slammed them the day before(like always).
  23. Sorry I am a little late but we fished South Haven friday afternoon. First we tried for perch and only got 3. We marked huge schools of fish though. Then we decided it was time for salmon. Ran out to 85 fow and set lines. After about and hour had a nice coho hit a killer dolphin spoon on the downrigger 43 down in about 90 fow. After that nothing till sunset when we had a firedrill going. Lost a small laker at the boat on a dipsy with a green glo frog. Also missed a fish on the swr with a nitro electric blueberry spoon. Landed four kings between 6 and 12 pounds. Two came on a killer dolphin spoon 43 down. The biggest was on full core with a nitro twister spoon. The last came on a half core with a nitro circus spoon on. We stayed in between 85 and 95 fow and our speed was right around 2.7. It was a beautiful afternoon and yay no more school!
