What did you use to apply it? Foam pad or wool? Power, or by hand?

Wow! The water there looks so clear with no growth on the bottom of your boat. I see some cabbage floating in the water, but not bad. I slip mine in Lake Macatawa (aka Lake Macatoilet as known around here) in Holland, MI, and by mid season my trim tabs, and waterline are covered in slime. : 0). How productive id the rigger down the chute for you. I've read a lot of negative feedback on running down the chute because of tangles. I'm adding a center rigger this year because there's a lot of guys around here that run them with success.

What size kicker did you go with? I want to get one someday, but I'm not sure what HP to get. I want to get one with a remote throttle, and have it tied into my steering somehow, Any suggestions? How does yours handle a 28' boat. Mine is set up almost the same as yours so any input would be appreciated.

I believe the one's Dave is talking about is the new Bert's trees. They have spring loaded bases that allow you to swivel them out of the way. You pivot them by lifting up on them, and then turning. Pretty sweet. I just bought on for my boat so I wouldn't have to worry about hitting them on the dock pilons when I left my slip.

Man, I love fishing, but there's no way I'd be out there in those conditions. That will give you shrinkage just looking at the pictures!

I hear ya. I work at a large automotive supplier in Holland, and we're very busy right now. Last year at this time we were laying people off, and salary folks were required to take two weeks off without pay (not consecutive thank God). This year we're working every day except Christmas day, and New Year's day. It's been balls to the wall for the last several months. It's tiring, but I'll take it any day compared to last year.

Rod holder trees are a great addition to a boat. I have two on my rig, and love 'em. The only thing I would do differently is make them swivel because I've had some close calls on my port side tree entering, and exiting my slip. I recently purchased the Burt's swivel tree that I'm replacing the fixed mount after the shrink-wrap comes off. I'll be selling the non-swivel one that's on there now in the Spring.

Haven't had any experience with Big Jon's, but I've read posts on other sites that they had problems with the booms breaking with big balls in rough conditions. This has strictly been through word-of-mouth, and various posts. Just wanted to throw that out there to see if others had issues with them too. Personally I go with what I've ran for years, and feel comfortable with. Kinda stuck in a rut so to speak. :0)

LOL!

Well seeing that Jenny is gone things should start looking up. I have to give her some credit though. She's the only politician that kept true to her word "In five years you'll be blown away". Good riddance.

Couldn't have said it better myself. See you all on the water this Spring!

How much is it to become a supporting member? I want to be able to post items for sale on this site because it has a lot of visibility with other fellow fish-heads.

Cannon makes a nice downrigger as well. They're built like tanks, and are fast. I have two Digi-Troll IV's on my rig, and I'm adding a Mag 10 this season to run down the chute. I run 14# balls in the Summer with them. All the major brands (Cannon, Big Jon, Scotty, Walker, etc.) are good units I guess it pretty much boils down to what you're familiar with, your budget, and features desired. Good luck.

I was wondering about that. There's not a dimmer switch of any kind on the unit? I currently have the Moor Subtroll, but I've been having some issues with it. When I send the probe down the display blacks out, and doesn't come back on until it's within 5-6 feet from the surface. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong, but haven't been able to put my finger on it yet. I recently added a bunch of new equipment this past Summer so I was getting to know it all in a short period of time. Probably overlooked something. I really like the new Fish Hawk so I may make the switch.

Anybody know where you can get torpedo, or shark weights in the Holland/Zeeland area?

I recently found an aerial shot of Stannard Rock, and I was amazed at how beautiful, yet erie the rock looked from that high. How deep is it around the rock (Surface to top of the rock)? How much is sticking out of the water, and is it dangerous to navigate around? I'd like to fish it someday, and would like some advice on any precautions since it's a little ways out there.

Yeah Buddy!!!!

Merry Christmas to all. I hope everyone can spend time with there loved ones this special holiday. Have a safe and prosperous new year (on and off the water). Fish On!

I looked at the depth raider, and even though it looks like a nice unit the thing that turned me off was the coated cable requirement.

Looks good out there

Man that looks inviting. I wish it was April!!!!!! -
Anybody have any feedback on the new Fish Hawk S & T unit? I had the old style, and didn't care for it much because there was a lot of interference with the other electronics on my boat, and the battery drain on the probe sucked. I was looking at the new unit, but I'm a little skeptical about trying them again in case I have the same problems with my new boat. Spending $600.00 to get the same result isn't an option. Any thoughts would help.

Nice! I hear ya. Those rod holders were calling my name!

Finally got all my Christmas shopping done for the kids so I thought I'd splurge a little on myself. What the heck right even dad's need some "toys" for Christmas. Anyway, I just got back from The Outdoorsman in Jenison with some sweet Bert's stuff. A couple rod holders with tracking. I put a door in the shrink-wrap on my boat so I can check on it every now and then during the winter so I hopped in and was visualizing where the new stuff was going. Really got me anxious for Spring. Also adding another downrigger this year. The wife doesn't know about that yet though.

Mmmmmm. I love smelt! That sounds like a blast.

I can't wait until Spring. The sound of screaming drags is a noise I can never get tired of.
