Our hook ups are about the same as a treble, the singles do seem to hold a bit better, they burey deeper into the fishes mouth. and my opinion is, unless a treble is deep in the fishes mouth it works against itself. I'd wouldn't tell anybody one style of hook is better than another, they both catch fish very well, SHARPNESS is the biggest cause of lost fish in my book, I can not think of any strait pointed hooks that are sharp enough to use out of the package, Treble or single. Filed sharp hooks will put more fish in the boat......

My name is John King ( No relation to the manistee one). My wife and I run our charter service out of the Michigans Eastern U.P. we run a very trailerable SportCraft 252 Hardtop.:Ports we fish, Detour, Cedarville,Hessel,St.Ignace. we also fish Manistique and Fairport. We also try to make a trip or 2 below the bridge, Manistee,Frankfort, and we've been known to hit saginaw Bay.

Food for thought on this one. What are you pulling out of the bellies of your fish at the cleaning station ? 6 & 7 inch alwives, 2 to 3 inch sticklebacks or smelt ranging from 3 to 7 inches. I know for a fact that the bait that we pull out of our fish in Northern Lake Huron (Detour, St.Ignace) are small 99% of the time anymore we run Regular size spoons here, and do very well with them, it's pretty rare that we throw a Magnum spoon over the side anymore in Huron.

We spooled up 2 of the Okuma Convectors CV30D's up with 1000 feet of wire last spring, After seeing there performance we will be adding more this season, I don't think you can abuse a reel more that filling it with 30# wire and drag dipeys all day. Very good reel for the price you pay. Rod length are a personal prefrence items, shorter rods are a bit easier to handle on smaller boats.
