Coho have definitely scattered in a week. Fish can be found from the harbor to the hills to wind point and south of kenosha but the bite can be tough. My trips over the weekend were later in the day and sounds like the earlier bite was better. Seems like farther south was better then around Racine. 6/8/13 - Fished 8am-1pm finished 14 for 25. Made one pass in front of the harbor and missed a coho almost immediately but did not mark much. Got a report of decent action in 60 fow south of the reef so I decided to venture out there instead since it was already late in the morning. Worked 50-70 fow area with spotty action and no real pattern developing. Standard coho rigs were number one higher in the water column. A couple boats near me pick up straggler kings but I never found one. 6/9/13 - Fished 1pm-6pm finished 10 for 12. Afternoon trip thought I would be best off fishing the hills and reports of mixed bag being taken in the morning out there. Found some nice trout out there but that was it. Only had three guys so after we caught our 6 trout I moved back into the area I fished the day before. Pulled a couple coho pretty quick and then a couple more going back through the area. Ran out of time and had to call it a day. Tried everything out deep but the salmon must have boogied out of there by the time I got there, not a single hit. Inside was standard coho gear in the upper water column again.

Fished the SU Opener contest on Saturday. Fishing was not great for me but not horrible either. Considering the First In had not seen a king at all yet expectations were not very promising. Fished south on the last hill where I had marked a few nice fish earlier in the week. To my surprise, the First four fish were kings and we ended up catching a fifth later in the morning with the biggest being 12 pounds. The only real hot set up of the day was a blue w/UV crushed tape Spin Doctor and Big Weenie UV aqua fly down 35 on a down rigger. Ended the day with 74 pounds for 8th place and 2nd in the Lewis side bet. Sunday fished 5:30-9:00am and hit coho fishing hard again. Started with decent action around the harbor mouth and finished south of 16th street. Standard coho fishing with orange flashers/dodgers and peanut flies. One other stand out was a Bumble Bee Super Slim on a downrigger towards the bottom.

get them while you can Jim! Coho season is my favorite time of the year! -
Fished 6am to 10:30ish in 35-60fow south of the reef and finished 21 for 30+. Standard coho rigs on boards, high riggers and divers. Chrome frog DW Paddle with Big Weenie Chesty Puller fly down 35 on a down rigger took probably 10 hits in 50-60fow. Planned on heading out to the hills but hit a submerged log just past the reef. Incredible vibrations left me unable to power out very fast so decided to set in 35fow and troll out. Took two fish right away and worked 35-40 for a while going 5-7. The Margret V reported better action just outside of me in 50ish fow so trolled out that way (thanks guys!). Took two more on the way out and then finished up working the 50-60 fow area south east of the reef followed by a slow power in! Not a ton of fish or bait marking and the direction of the troll seemed to make a huge difference today with south being the best. http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/files/1/7/5/0/img_1959.jpg' alt='img_1959.jpg'>

First full length charter of the season, 8am-1pm and finished 27 for 40 fishing the hills south of town. Orange flashers/dodgers and peanut flies on short divers, riggers and high boards. Also took a few cohos on Netminder UV Showtime Spin Doctor and UV LLB Strong Fly looking for kings 130 feet out on wire diver. Trout came on Chrome Frog Paddle and Big Weenie Chesty Puller fly working the bottom. Throw a few spoons at them with no takers. Numbers are deceiving as this was by far the toughest trip I have had all year. Never found a spot to work. Every time I found fish, turned on them and they were gone. Started in 50fow south of the reef where I had been working and impatience forced me to more after about 20 minutes and no bites. Re-set in 75fow and worked SE to 135fow. Worked the same general area all day with no real direction or depth that worked better than any other. http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/files/1/7/5/0/img_1953.jpg' alt='img_1953.jpg'>

they have been a ton of fish in the 40-50 fow area the last couple days. Not sure what is going to happen after the big blow though. the hills are actually a bit deeper than 50 row. When the 50 starts a drastic down swing to the 60,70,80...that is your hill. and if you get up north towards racine there are 3 separate hills. About mid way between the two towns the three hills come together and end up being one bigger hill off kenosha and winthrop harbor. -

nice job! welcome to the site -
5-21-13 Fished 8am to Noon, 20 for about 35 with three lake trout mixed in the cohos. Had an 8 hour trip scheduled so had the luxury of trying something different. Boats were still working the skinny water near the harbor but decided to try by the reef. Fished 40-50 south of the reef and found a good amount of cohos. Pulled lines and set out past the last hill looking for something bigger. Finished out our limit with more cohos and a few lake trout. Typical coho fishing with peanut flies on boards and shallow divers and riggers. Also took a good amount of cohos on 8 inch spin doctors/paddles and flies looking for some kings. 5-22-13 Fished 7am until 930, Finished 27 for ALOT! Orange flashers/dodgers peanut flies. Divers, riggers and a 50 foot 32lb copper setup by far out fished high boards. Once again decided to bypass the harbor due to super thick fog. Set south of the reef and fished in 40-50 row. Did not mark any bait or much for fish

Fishing was a bit tougher on Sunday than it was on Friday. Fished from 8am until about noon and ended 16 for 26 with a handful more short hits (an extra one for me for dinner ) Started south of town in about 20 fow and did not have our first hit until we got to the zoo. From the zoo to Wind Point the action was sporadic but tons and tons of bait fish. I think the boat traffic and the extreme amount of food available contributed to the fishing slowing over the weekend. majority of fish came on dodger/flasher peanut flies but a good amount of hits came on Super Slim Double UV Mixed Veggie and Buffalo Bill Glow on down riggers. Water is already 57 degrees on the surface. the coming weather changes could push them back out and scattered again. Hopefully not but will be back at it again on tuesday and weds! http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/files/1/7/5/0/img_1936.jpg' alt='img_1936.jpg'>

Glad to see they are making their way up there! -
Due to weather and just bad timing, this is the latest first trip the First In has ever seen but the wait was worth it! Fished 6:15-7:15 and ended up 21 for about 30. One pass from the harbor mouth to the zoo in 20 fow. Orange flashers/dodgers and peanut flies were impossible to keep in the water. SUper Slim Double UV Jager Bomb was also really good on a down rigger. When they are this thick and hungry and aggressive I really think they will bite just about anything. Bait selection only makes a difference in how long it takes for a limit. http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/files/1/7/5/0/img_1933.jpg' alt='img_1933.jpg'>

nice job! they will be there in force shortly! -
Charter Lakes here also. As stated, nearly all charter insurance policies will have a layup period. I tried shopping around last summer due to an issue I had with my policy. My aunt is my insurance agent so I absolutely trust her. There were very few companies she found that would insure charter boats. And those that would wrote a policy that priced themselves way out of contention. She stated they just do not want to hold the liability associated with a charter operation. This included a company I held charter insurance with for 5 years but had to drop my policy while I was between boats. I am constantly receiving emails from a "Hogan's Insurance Company." I have never inquired about them as I am content with Charter Lakes, but may be worth a shot for you.

i hear ya! Unfortunately there really are not any good reports from down by the state line yet either. I know the water is super cold everywhere but I have a feeling there may be some fish offshore....just a question of how far. Pretty soon I'll be heading to the deep blue sea to find out for my self, either that or fish brown trout.

If you feel like burning fuel you could try out deep. A lot of times in the fall and early spring there are good amounts of cohos out there. The biggest problem is finding them. No one wants to be the first to go out there and quite frankly even want to. Out of Racine when there is nothing in close, setting on the hills and trolling east until you find something can be a good start. Be prepared for prolonged boredom, and if your lucky, followed by mass chaos when you find a school. I would imagine Milwaukee would not be much different. Look for any type of break on the satellite images. Last May we also found a large amount of 10-15 pound kings living down deep in 250 fow along with cohos on the surface. may 2012 http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/gallery/files/1/7/5/0/img_0604.jpg' alt='img_0604.jpg'>

Duck brush but try to find a more firm one for non slip surfaces. Soft Scrub gel works very well but seems to be a little more difficult to find than the regular Soft Scrub for some reason. Keep them both off of waxed surfaces if you want to retain the wax.

I have been using West Marine Third Reef gear for many years. I wear the bibs nearly everyday and they stand up pretty well. I like them because they are fairly breathable. Makes a huge difference when its 90 degrees outside. Aftco has released a new pair that looks good too and claim to be breathable too. http://www.aftco.com/transom-fishing-bib-pants-1453-prd1.htm
