The First In finally gets an identity!

thanks guys! i have been playing with fire not having a name on a charter boat all summer. all good now though! i really like the name Fire Escape! that would be a good one too! -
just a quick search on google and i found this: http://compare.ebay.com/like/400119709334?ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes seems like a buck a piece is a steal. never used them before but i'm a sucker for a good deal!
-
Its only been three months since i have had the boat, figured it was time to put a name on it!
-
when i do run jpugs, especially LJ ones, i change out the hooks. I do not care for the steel hooks that they come with.
-
when the dog and i go fishing, i usually start with one SWR rigger, a full core (or copper), and one dipsy. three different presentations and i adjust depending on which one/ones are getting bit. Baits totally depend on what has been working the trips leading up to when i go.

i personally have never had much luck with j plugs. i know lots of guys use them and catch tons of fish on them, but not me. Although i do believe the less confidence you have in a lure, the less it is going to work for you. especially when the no-confidence lure doesn't make it in the water much. that is probably more of my problem!

chris - that is what i thought. i've heard them called thumpers and pump handles, but never weapons. They use them alot north of milwaukee. I've fished them for bouncing the bottom but not really suspended. russ - i am not fishing brew city. my mom is having her wedding reception on saturday. kinda trumps fishing. besides my contest record this season has been less then stellar. I have been very fortunate with my catches this year (aside from contests). I am putting all the luck on the boat. Sometimes i think that thing catches fish on its own. I really haven't (intentionally) kept the spin doctors a secret! I have had the green dot spinny on my dipsys literally all year. I have not changed it at all. My last trip is the first time flys have had as many fish as spoons for me. The only other varible i know from myself and SOME of the other boats down here is speed. I usually am never below 2.7 mph on my depth raider. josh -

nice job jim! you will love the depth raider and it should increase your catches. sometimes its hard to vbelieve what the baits are actually doing down there! i have a kinda half-a.. plan to take the boat up to brew city on tuesday. you'll have to let me know if you're gonna be around. -

chris the only thing i can think of is a thumper rod(?). i know they fish those a lot in Port Washington. When you find out, let me know! There are definitely days when i'm willing to try anything! josh -

chris, i gotta admit, i have never heard of a "weapon" rod that is different then an SWR. Where did you here of it? You have me curious now. another side note, unfortunately i never made it up by you this year for the KD tourny. the new boat made that a little difficult. i plan on having a trailer for it next year and coming up. Its not exactly a "trailer boat," but we had to much fun last year to let that hold us back! josh -

Fishing is still HOT HOT HOT! Fished 7am-noon, the last hill out to 150fow just a little south of town. Great mixed bag of fish, salmon down deeper and still a lot of rainbows out there! Downriggers 50 down to the bottom, 300ft coppers, leads 3-10 colors, and dipsys 150-200 out. Super Slims on the coppers and cores, Spin Doctors/flys on the dipsys and riggers. Ended with 22, threw 4 small guys back and missed half a dozen more.

nice fish! looks like randy brought along some luck -
i would keep a full core if possible, especially thinking of this time of year when the fish are generally deeper. Last i heard in Milwaukee the fish were out in 100+ fow.
-
i can second that, last week we had a ton of floating debris out to 5-10 miles off Racine. Figure it has to go somewhere, why not the other side!

consistency and paying attention to details. matching one fly to another. ie: lead lengths, bead colors, mass of fly material, head color, flasher, etc, etc...sometimes it is changing one or all of the previously mentioned. spoons can be some what idiot proof. just snap it on there and throw it out there, maybe change speeds. Flasher/fly need to be tweaked to your boat and fishing style. And most important FLUOROCARBON! you need to have patience and confidence. Sometimes the fish just aren't biting!

For some reason, my last two shifts at the fire station the internet has not worked here. Almost as if it is blocking us from using the internet. Literally, the only website i can access is this one!
-
i just make a loop, and a single "regular" over hand knot with the loop
-
loop at the end of the fly leader. makes for quick changing, especially on attractors with cork screws or snaps on them.

nothing more frustrating then losing more fish then you catch! -
the length of my out stretched arms. I think that is supposed to be close to a persons height which would make it about 5'8''. This is also where the term fathom came from, so just for fun, my diver lead lengths are one fathom long.

thanks guys! russ - randy told me you had flat calm seas yesterday up in brew city. crazy how 20 miles can make such a difference! -
Warm water has come to the west side! Fishing has moved off shore but that is not necessarily a bad thing for us day time fishermen. Weds 7/28 10am to 3pm - Fished a little south of town 110 fow out to 220 fow. Great mixed bag of fish. Got 11 to the net and missed at least that many plus threw a few small guys back. Friday 7/30 8am to 1pm - Fished 100 fow out to 160 fow right away then finished the day inside the 3rd hill in 85 fow. Caught 19, missed a few and threw 6 small guys back. Sat 7/31 6am to 11am - ROUGH WATER! started back in 85 fow and had good action right away. Slowed up and headed out to 130-150 fow after a good tip and finished the day with good action. Ended with 13 fish (4 small guys that were not returnable) missed a few and threw four back. Only had to change a bait once all three days! Dreamweaver Super Slims have been the hot ticket. Any combo of green or blue on 3 color lead all the way down to the bottom. Magic Man and Green Dolphin probably the hottest. Green Dot Spin Doctors on dipsys 200 feet out and Dreamweaver UV Tarheel fly 111 on downrigger also took some nice fish.
