My baseball coach said take the day off friday so without a noation i was packing my bags to skip school and run a charter for friday morning. Running a double boat trip with Reel Teaser we headed for the pier heads. Got rods set and just started to pick away at them. Nothing was really stood out. Everything kinda went. We fished from south of the harbor .5 miles to north a mile. Kept doing the same look. We ended the day pulling 11 fish for 15 bites. We threw 2 smaller kings back. We had 3 browns, one lake trout, one steelhead and the rest were kings. Stingers in lemon ice, carmel dolphin, mixed veggies, yellow killer and jaw breaker all took fish. Fish were comming on mostly cores "2,3,5" Did kind of the same program for saturdays charter. The fish were bigger and were comming on different lures. Slide diver back 50 with green and yellow small worrier spoon went 5 times, rigger down 20 with a small orange and red lure jenson spoon went. The core bit was also good, again "2,3,5". Lemon ice, NBK, mixed veggies and carmel took fish. Fishing again tomrrow love 3 charters in may!!!!

Manistee this week
mattmishler replied to mattmishler's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
I am not, i still have one more year. I get reports all the time from everyone who is fishing out of manistee most of the week. Most of the time its threw text message and its a little hard when you have read"11-18 in the harbor, fishin was awesome" in the middle of english lecture. -
Yupp we run 300ft of 45lb of them. They work great a little slow but they do a good job!!

In the first start of the week fishing was great, the action was inside of the harbor with big catches comming out of there. Lots of double digit boxes and some great size to. Lots of 10-15 pound kings. Also had some browns in the mix as well. The action was comming on 3 colors and 5 colors with Miami dolphins and jaw breakers. Slide divers with stinger nitro glow wonderbread was the hottest set up by far. We were also taking some fish on riggers with mixed and nuked veggies. As the week progressed the fishing turned from great to bad. The fish and bait moved out of the harbor and some fish moved off to the shelf. The fish very scattered out of the shelf are few and far between. Spoons in green dolphin, blue killer, jaw breaker were taking most of the catch, we also took some hits on flashers and flys. White protroll with rapture hypnotist fly went a few times and blue bubble protroll with matching rapture fly also went a few times. Very up and down week.

All moonshine spoons get changed. Thats the only ones. Every spoon that we get gets sharpened the first time i lay my hands on them.

1/4 of our trips are at due to running doubles, so we fish like we would durring the middle of the day. Deep, when the sun is setting we bring everything up as if we were we fishing the early morning. Its just like the morning just in reverse

Like most people i run braid on my riggers then have a 60ft leader of 20lb floro. It works great for use. We attach it with a double uni knot i believe. No need for a little spro

They go right in the cooler no need to mess with the blood or fish flopping around. We dont want customers to see it done like that.
-
We run 20lb big game and buy it buy the pound.
-
Fished on alot of different boats, starcraft, lund, crestliner, sea nymph ect. The only boat "tin can" i wanna be in is a Lund.

Before one of my buddies has left for AL he wanted to do some Michigan king fishing. With good reports out of ludington thats where we went. The wind wasnt that bad. It was alot better than I thought i was going to be. We set up out front. Work the stained water. 2 Fish came on jet 10 back 100 with DW orange spoons with green latterback. One fish came on a rigger down 20 with a black raspberry spoon. The last one was on jet 10 100 back with a copper double orange crush. It wasnt a too bad of a morning..oh i forgot the mention that we had to hand line a 15 pound king due to a reel arbor breaking. Talk about crazy!!!

How Does A Boat Get Sponsored?
mattmishler replied to eastcoasttransplant's topic in General Discussion
Yupp i have learned alot about this whole thing becoming a first mate and doing as much for my bosses pro staff as possible. We do 7 sport shows a year some for the charter business and some to work the company's booth. Its all about who you know not what you know. Its ALOT of work what we do in the off season, craig and I run 5 hot boards at tackle stores. But you know what I LOVE every minute of doing it, talking to people meeting the owners its all great!
