You could check out the Daiwa Heartland rods, I have had good luck with these in the past and you can get them at a pretty good price.

Nice looking lab, I love those little brown dogs! -
Isn't that the truth, well it has to start somewhere. Until then I will keep doing my part.

Yes, the action is the difference between a dodger and a flasher. A dodger is designed to go side to side, and a flasher is designed to rotate. Some people call flashers rotators. Hope this clears things up for you.

Looks like a pretty good setup! Did you get the idea from how Great Lakes Planers makes there rocket launchers? -
Whats everyone favorite glow spoon of 2009

Have any of you tried the MS half moon series? What do you think of them? -
When fishing evenings as the sun is going down I will start switching out my non-productive lures over to my glow program. If lures are working good I will leave them on until they shut off. When I am fishing after sundown generally everything I have down will have glow on it.

Whats everyone favorite glow spoon of 2009

After seeing all your reports last year catching fish on Sarge spoons I went and picked one up. I only got to run it for one trip but it was one of our best spoons that trip. As far as the entire season goes a mag Flounder Pounder on a SWR did the most dammage for us. -
You seem to have a good start and a good mix of presentations. One of the key factors you did not mention was speed. If you are fishing and you know fish are in the area but you can not entice a strike, you may have to experiment with speed to find what the fish want. The direction you are trolling can also make a difference. Whenever you you change direction you should experiment to find the most productive speed. One thing you can do is keep a log when you are on the water. I usually document speed, direction, lure, depth, presentation, etc. when I catch fish. This will also help keep track of which lures work better in each situation. I'm sure the other guys on this site will have more good info for you. Good luck next season.

I fried up some roe and ate it once just out of curiosity and that is most likely not a mistake I will make again, it was nasty, in my opinion. At least I wasn't the only person to eat it, I also got me wife and one of my friends to try it. Suckers. I'm sure a professional chef could have prepared it better than I did, but I'm no chef. It wouldn't surprise me if if McDonalds is already doing this.

I voted Moonshine, but stinger would be a close second. Flounder Pounder and Mongolian beef were my best producers for MS. NBK and mixed veggies took honers for Stingers. I like how durable the Moonshines are I just wish they weren't so expensive.

I have been using 50# Ande fluoro for Fly leaders and 17# Gamma fluoro for copper and cores

I also have a Blackberry and do not have a problem viewing youtube videos. Videos on other sites may or may not play. I have not looked for for a flash player application for the blackberry but there may be something out there.

Sounds like a great idea. Are you planning on shooting the episodes yourself or are you going to hire out crews to do your videography?

I know the connection between currents and down speed are not going to be something that is going to hold true every time out. I agree, you do have to experiment with speed out on the water. If salmon do prefer a more aggressive presentation during faster current it would allow you to start at a higher speed right away and adjust from there and hopefully find that optimum speed sooner. It is something I will pay more attention to next season.
-
Now that's funny. I might have to try that.
-
Sorry for the confusion. What I was trying to say is, do salmon prefer a more aggressive presentation when the current is faster. For example, faster down speeds and shorter leads on flies.

I have thought about segmenting copper and chose not to because of the size of the knot you have to reel through the eyes. The less chance your line has to hang up as your reeling in a fish the better IMO. With leadcore this seems like less of an issue because the willis knot is much smaller and seems to slide through the eyes with less resistance.

I agree with the wire diver setups as well. they are a good tool for putting fish in the boat, and its a ton of fun fighting fish on the wire line. I would also think about adding a two and a three color. I like using a two color for an SWR rig, our two color SWR was a good producer for us when the fish became less active.

I was watching bassmasters today and they were talking about fishing the bass faster when the the currents were stronger and slower with a weaker current. Do you think that this is something that also holds true when fishing for salmon out on the big pond?

Now that's my kind of dog!

I have been using a diamond rod for sharpening, it took a little bit to get used to but I like it. When I really get bored I will hone them with a leather belt. This is the one I use.

We always dance on the engine cover when the fishing slows down. Gets them every time. Have to be a little cautious on the bumpy days though.

Is Sturgeon Bay to far for a weekend trip? LOL

If you have a radar arch or a hardtop I would try mounting the camera up there. If you want to capture the entire back deck I would first try using a good wide angle lens, and if that is not wide enough you could go to a fish eye lens. The only problem with using a fish eye would be the image distortion. If the image is vibrating or bouncing around to much I would load the footage into a editing program. Many of the editing programs have image stabilizing features that work pretty well on stationary shots.
