I had a day like that the other weekend, it happens. Nice job on the fish! How deep have you guys been running in Kewaunee? I have only taken one short trip out there but I would like to get to know a few more areas.

Well I have not found anything to odd but I did lose a lamprey in the boat a couple weekends ago. Nice job putting them in the boat this weekend!

Headed out to Sturgeon bay on Fri. evening with the intention of fishing all night and into the morning with my friends Ty and Don, aka MAINSTREET. As we made it to the break wall I quickly realized that we were not going to be fishing out on the big pond that night. So we went to plan B and headed back through town and out to green bay in hopes of finding some walleye. It turned out to be a long slow night. We never did hook up with any walleye but we did find clouds upon clouds of alewife. Over the course of the night we managed to snag 10, they seemed to love the cranks. Just before sunup we decided to give the lakeside another try. This time when we got over there it was much more manageable. We ran out and set lined at about 5:30 on the edge of the bank and started heading North. About a half hour or so after we got lines set things just went crazy! It was probably the most hectic day I have had on the water all year. I don't think it really mattered what we had down at the time, the fish wanted everything. Unfortunately they all wanted to run strait into my copper, lead, and wherever else they could get into. At one point we had 3 fish sliding around on the floor with hooks still in them. By the time I was done clearing messes I had donated a couple of spoons, a half core, and a 150 copper. We tried to get turned around and back on top of them but the wind was making to task much more difficult than I expected. At around 9:00 we had had enough punishment and needed some sleep so we headed in going 6 for 10. We did the best today with a mix of glow spoons and glow FF combos on riggers and glow FF combos on dipsies. Fortunately we were able to salvage the long slow night of fishing with some good action on the morning.

I like using the Albright knot for copper, its fast and easy to tie. If you get a reel with the narrow levelind guide I am pretty sure you can order the bigger guide separately. I'm sure some of the other guys will have a little more info for you.

Nice work Chris, it sure has been fun out there lately. The charter guys must be loving life right now being able to get off the water with a short trip and a full box so often. It looks like I will be out there again an Sat. as long as the wind cooperates.

The Bank has definitely been hot. How did you guys do? I just posted some pics of our new boat here, take a look.

It is just a speaker. It was not working when we got the boat and we currently do not have it hooked up to anything. We may hook it up in the future but right now I really don't have much of a need for it.

The rail our boat really isn't that high, probably about waist high. If it wasn't there I would be worried about people falling out of the boat in rough water.

It has been a long frustrating wait but after a year and a half of owning our new old boat we were able to get it on the water last weekend. She is a 1980 Century and has a lot of work done to her over the years. After we bought it we had to have the transom replaced as well as many other minor issues. We also made a few improvements of our own and we still have some upgrades to make but for now just being able to fish out of her is a relief.

Fished out of Sturgeon Bay this weekend with my Wife and my parents for our maiden voyage on our new boat. Friday morning we headed out to the bank and fished from 5:00to 10:00 going 10 for 14. We set up on a N troll and before we had our third line in the water we had a double on the dipsies. From then on we had pretty steady action with a few more doubles mixed in. Most of the fish came on riggers but we also took a few on dipsies and copper using a mix of flies and spoons. We caught fish everywhere from 100 to 170 FOW with no real standout depths. Here is what worked for us. Mag dipsy, 180 back, 11" white crush glow protroll & green glow fly (10# king) Mag dipsy, 150 back, white crush glow SD & blue glow fly (8#,5# kings) DR 90 DN, mag flounder pounder, (8#, 16# kings, miss) DR 80 DN, chrome hotspot & aqua fly, (12#, 14# kings) DR 90 DN, mag happee meal, (5#, 7# kings, miss) 300 copper, mag Mongolian beef, (missed a big one ) 200 copper, mag blue dolphin, ( small king) We headed out again on Sat. for an afternoon trip fishing from 12 to 6 ending up going 10 for 12. The fish had defiantly move since Friday morning. We found them much shallower up on top of the bank in 40 to 80 FOW. Riggers took top honers taking 8 of the 12 hits. We also had to troll much slower than the day before with 2.2 SOG being our best speed. We also only took one hit going north the rest were all south. Here is what worked for us: DR, 45 DN, mag happee meal, (13#, 7#, 16#, 17#, 7# kings, 5# steel) DR, 100 DN, Mag happee meal, (3# king) DR, 45 DN, chrome hotspot & aqua fly (10# king) half core, mag sarge, (miss) 150 copper, white crush glow protroll & iridescent fly (10# king) 300 copper, mag blue dolphin, (miss) dipsy, 150 back, 3 setting, white crush glow SD & green glow fly (4# laker) We also snagged two alewife on a mag blue dolphin spoon:D

Finally made it out to the bank for our first trip of the year with my wife, cousin and dad. We got lines set by about 6:00 which I thought was pretty good since we live 2 1/2 hours away. We set up just outside of the pack on a north troll. At 6:45 we took our first hit on a dipsy which quickly turned into a double! From there on we picked away at them with one more double in the mix ending op 10 for 10 and pulled lines at 11:00. We did most of our damage with riggers and copper with a mix of spoons and FF combos. Not sure what our best depth was since our sonar unit froze up on us for a few hours, but my guess is we spent most of our time in 130 to 160 FOW. We also had one of our downriggers quit on us towards the end of the trip. I guess that's why they call it a shakedown trip, at least we had some descent fishing. Here is what worked for us. Dipsy set on 2, 215 LOC, 11" char. glow Hot Spot & green glow fly (18.5# king) rigger, 90 dn, mag flounder pounder spoon ( 3 small kings ) rigger, 83 dn, tin can & aqua fly (16# king) rigger, 60 dn, hud special, (small king) 300 copper, mag mongolian beef spoon (18.5#, 3# kings) 100 copper, mag blue dolphin (small king) 150 copper, mixed veggies (small king)

Kris welcome to GLF. It may also help if we knew what port you fished out of since different lures may work better in one location than the next. When you think about lure colors you have to think about what those colors look like under water as you go down in the water column. As you go down, light saturation starts to decrease, and colors start to fade. The reds and oranges are the fist colors to dissipate. Blue and violate are on the opposite side of the spectrum and will be visible at deeper depths with less light saturation. This is why certain colors work better up high, and others work better down deep.

What kind of boat did you end up with?

Fished from Sand Bay up to Sherwood Point in the wind Sat. evening for our first trip of the year. We worked from 8' to 20' of water trolling stick baits and shads, but couldn't seem to figure out what they wanted. We did manage to pick up one nice 24" eye on a firetiger HJ 12 in 15 FOW but that was it.

Frank - Have you had a chance to give your new GPS system a field trial yet?
