  1. This is the first I have heard about problems with Howie's copper. I have been using Howie's copper for three of four years now without a problem. Has anyone else run into problems with the Howie's copper, or any other brand. Hopefully if there is an issue they can get it resolved. I would feel like a traitor if I had to get copper from another company since Howie's is located right in Sturgeon Bay.
  2. That is the same knot I use as well, never had a problem yet. It also works good for downrigger cables.
  3. Welcome to GLF Jim!
  4. Check out the Black's release. Easy to adjust and easy to use. The only time I use rubber bands is when I am using light line rigger rods. In that situation I half hitch the rubber band onto the line and put the other end into my Black's release.
  5. Welcome to the site Ben! Have fun setting the new boat up, and let us know if you have any questions.
  6. I like that idea Josh, if it's in WI count me in.
  7. Jim, here is the depth chart on the blood run site.
  8. Ken, it does sound like a pretty good trade off. I may have to give it a try after I donate one of my other coppers.
  9. Good to hear Jim! Let the cabin fever begin!
  10. Ken, I have not used any of the 32# yet. I have only used 45# from Opti and Howie's. I am currently running all super copper from Howie's. I did notice that the Howie's copper is a little thinner than the Blood Run copper, .036 compared to .038.
  11. Those are some nice looking fish Jonas, nice work!
  12. Hope all goes well with the surgery Jim.
  13. Yep, what josh said. I would also add that if you are going to run more than 300' of 45# copper you should use a heavier backer like 50# braid.
  14. Welcome to GLF Adam! Good to have another WI guy here. Let us know if you need anything.
  15. That's pretty intense, I wish I could see it in person! Anyone up for some surfing?
  16. Currents, how they effect the bait and fish, and how they effect water temps.
  17. Thanks for sharing John!
  18. That's awesome John! I am still working on getting my wife to like mornings out on the lake. For some reason she thinks 3:00 is to early to get up. That area looks a lot like Gills Rock in Door County.
  19. Instead of stacking off the riggers you should think about running some leadcore or snap weights. you could run these off the back corners of the boat, but I would suggest running them off of inline boards. I would also agreed with Ed on running the spoons, but it doesn't hurt to give them a try.
  20. Our biggest fish this year was 18.5 caught on June 20 out of Sturgeon Bay on our first trip of the year. This fish was caught by my wife on a 300 copper with a Mongolian beef spoon. We actually had two fish over 18 that trip, and the only two for us all season. Jim I feel we are at a bit of a disadvantage compared to those Stannard Rock hogs and Lake O kings. LOL Those are some awesome fish guys!
  21. I agree with Grant, I would still winterize with heated storage.
  22. Nice looking rig Jim! Do you fish Lake O? Welcome to GLF!
  23. Very nice Mike!
  24. Nice job Jim , that's some nice looking silver!
