  1. That's a nice and clean looking setup Ken, nice work! I think that's about the best use for ironwood I have seen yet.
  2. Welcome to GLF Shane! Good luck with the boat search.
  3. I run a very similar long line setup as Pioneer with copper on the inside and lead on the outside and I have not had an issue doing this yet. Just make sure you have the presentation with the steeper dive curve on the inside. One thing you should watch out for is if you have a ff combo on the inside board and a plug on the outside board since they will change how deep your lines are running. If I do this I make sure the board drops way back before I try and slide it into the outside position.
  4. Welcome to GLF Noah! There are lots of people here willing to, let us know if you need anything.
  5. If you ever feel like sliding up to Sturgeon Bay for a trip let me know.
  6. Welcome to the site Brian, which port do you plan of fishing out of. I think if you wanted to wait a year for the electrics you could still be productive out on the lake. Like Steve said a spread of long lines, dipsies and thumper rods should cover the the water column pretty well.
  7. Wire will go a little deeper than braid, but wire always seems to catch more fish, at least on our boat.
  8. I have always just spooled up 1000' of wire instead of using backer since I don't like to have splices in my lines if it all possible. If you wanted to save some money by spiting it up don't see a problem with that either. I would probably use a small barrel swivel to make the splice if you wanted to go that rout. Like Josh said you will need to have something on the spool for the wire to grab. I have used electrical tape on my wire rods and have not had a problem with them yet, but if I were going to redo it I would probably put a short segment of mono on the bottom of the spool instead of tape so I can fill the spool better. I think this is also a good idea to do with braid. Mike, I have a wire diver chart on the boat, if I get there this weekend I will post it for you.
  9. Welcome to GLF Nick, good luck out on the bay!
  10. Just throw the chainsaw in the truck and head to the landing.
  11. Nice! I would have sent her packing too.
  12. Aaron, I remember when you first posted this and was happy to hear they are improving things. Lowrance was one of my top choices but it is hard to pull the trigger on a unit that expensive with the issues they have had in the past. I think it is going to take some time before Lowrance builds their reputation back up again.
  13. John, I was in the same position as you this winter. I started out looking at lowrance units but after reading a few to many negative reviews I ended up buying a Humminbird. Are you looking for a combo unit or just a fishfinder?
  14. Matt, I noticed you do not run spoons in your deep spread. Do the spoons just not produce as well for you down deep, or is it more of a speed issue? Also, what length leaders do you like running for your flies at those slow speeds down deep?
  15. welcome to GLF Dean! There are lots of ice fishermen here so don't hesitate to ask questions if you have them.
  16. Welcome to GLF Flymaker! Your videos have always helped me make it through the winter, thanks for posting.
  17. I bet they will be a bit more leery before making that trip again I know I would.
  18. Good to have you aboard Eric, welcome to GLF!
  19. Patrick yo may want to check out the OR18's from offshore if you haven't already, lots of guys use them and like them. Welcome to GLF Milt!
  20. You are correct Dave, it is on the 19th at Grandville. Here is a link to the post.
  21. Wow good for you, sorry about your friend though.
  22. That's a great looking ride Frank, welcome to GLF!
