Port Sheldon 6-4pm
tgafish replied to tgafish's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Yup we were the Islander to your starboard:) -
Fished 6-10 Covered 70 fow to 150 fow 2 miles North. Surface temps were 54-56. Light South breeze with a 6 inch chop. SOG was 2.1-3.1 most time spent at 2.5. Only marked fish in the mid 80's Spent 8-10pm in there. 3 color 150 32lb 200 45lb 300 32lb Slide diver out 75 to 150 Riggers at 35 and 75 both with free sliders Caught one 6lb king on a free slider on the 35 rigger and a shaker king on the 3 color. Released the shaker. The 6lber's stomach was empty Marked about 10 fish I'm guessing were lakers that would come off the bottom to look at the deep rigger and move back down. Marked a number of smaller marks in the mid twenties I'm guessing were shakers. A few good marks in the 40's and 50's down. 2 boats we talked to at the launch were 1 for 1 on a shaker and 0-3. I'm done til July:rolleyes:

No worries bud. Glad you were successful. Don I was out in that water where the little fish were with you. Tried to get you on the radio to tell you to check all your lines. I got lucky and noticed one bounce on my rigger. Reeled in and had one on every line. Set back out and hit another on a slider

No worries Kevin. I got the spirit of the post. We were all young. I'm starting to get dangerously obsessed though. Almost the end of May and I have yet to land a king. Otherwise I've had a pretty stellar spring. Not interested in catching a bunch of jars of pcb's although I think they are cool to look at. Saginaw bay is calling my name I think

Well that was a tough Memorial day weekend on the big lake front:(. South haven Sat am ended up with 1 laker and 2 small steel. Wanted to find the kings so went out of Muskegon this morning solo. Lines down at 5:30. Lines up at 11. Had a hit and run on a 150 copper and landed 3 kings and a steelhead that measured between 10 and 14 inches. 11 hours of trolling with one fish over 2 lbs and that was a pooper. Worked all kinds of water out to 290 today.

South Haven 5-23 (WMFL)
tgafish replied to jdh's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Nice job out there. I fished the same depths as most guys just didn't get the bites. Picked up a laker in 90 fow early am. Trolled NW out to 150. Picked up and moved out to 205. Picked up 2 small steel out there working the slicks. Think the fish were a bit further south of me. -

I'm in Terry. Sure could use some help on where to launch. Never been out of South Haven before -
Well that's a helpful response. Care to elaborate in an even more condescending manner? Something like "why are you asking where the silver fish are? Everybody was catching them everywhere you idiot":thumb:

The subject has been covered quite extensively on other websites. Great lakes angler and Michigan-sportsman have had very long thread with all kinds of speculation and some very good information. If you're interested in the answer you should do a search on these sites. It's not pretty:sorry:

Lot's of stuff on the net about this Ken. application for rehabilitation takes 6-12 months so no way he can get it done this year. If it was 1 occurance and over 10 years ago he will be deemed rehabilitated and have no issues. If less than 10 years ago it's a coin toss. Whatever he does he must not try to lie about it but he doesn't have to declare it if not asked. He must answer yes if they ask him if he's ever committed a felony because it's considered a felony in Canada. There has recently been a a directive to allow inadmissible people a one time entry for a fee of $200. But it's not a guarantee. Run into an asshole and he could just get booted. I have been across all of the Ontario/Mi crossings and once at International falls. I've never been asked. 2 times I've had firearms to declare/register and no issues came of it. This was at the Soo. I've found the officers up there to be the best. My favorite thing is the last thing the US customs agents up there say is "Welcome Home" If he has 2 convictions or any other felony charge then I would say forget it

http://www.michigan.gov/dnr/0,4570,7-153-10365_55798---,00.html Information on the passport. Good for all DNR launches, State parks, and state park launches. Covers everywhere I launch in Mi except Mid Detroit river

I'm guessing what you're saying is that the cable is getting bound up on itself or the spindle itself won't turn? Either way if you keep the cable attached when launching your boat you can use the weight of the boat to pull out cable for you. Then you just leave it extended unitl it's time to load. I've had to do this once when the cable was bound into itself pretty tight from a shallow launch site where I had to drag the boat across the bunks quite a ways

Braid Connections To: Spool, Copper, Leadcore

I tie an improved clinch knot for that very reason. -
I picked up an Arch at the show so I need to make some room on the gunnels of the Islander 2 sets of tite lok triple with riser and quick connect. I use these as extra rod holders to keep extra set ups out of the way. They are welded in position. one of the six needs to be rewelded. $50 for both together. 2 Great Lakes Holders triple trees. The triples are offset a few degrees to help with rod separation. Comes with base that fits in Berts track. Tree is easily 360 degree adjustable with a tension bolt and handle at the base. $200 for the set. Both prices are firm and FTF only in Rockford or GR

Exactly the same as above. Mono splices are for the board clip -
Sorry haven't seen this thread til now Terry. Here are my thoughts on what has made these events successful in the past and what has killed them. I've experienced the inception of the Manistee fun tourney, WMFL, SJFL, and the Dreamweaver event. I've been around for the downfall of Manistee and the SJFL. I watched but was not involved with the contraction of the WMFL and have been very involved in the expansion of the Dreamweaver. The number one killer of these events has been money. As soon as people start looking at it as a way to pay their tackle or gas bill it's all over. The sponsors and prizes are cool but as they grow they change the atmosphere. Dreamweaver is immune to this because it revolves around the charity but we still struggle every year to not get too big for our britches. I'd say we're tickling that line right now but we've continued to be blessed with a core group that do it for the right reasons with a few that come and go because they don't. The number one reason guys fish the league events is because they are NOT like big money events. The more you make them similar the less attractive you are. Early start times, no charters, points per fish species, honor system, open communication, bragging rights mean more than prize money, making friends on the water. These are all things that draw the weekend warriors to the league. I'll bet 90% or more of the guys that have fished the league would say the number one reason they actually went to their first event was to meet and learn from other guys. And I'll also bet that same amount would say the reason they kept fishing it was to compete against and hang out with their new found buddies. So my humble suggestions: Keep the points per species because it's different Keep the lines down time because it's different and allows guys to safely get out to fish in the dark instead of trying to run balls out. Keep the charters out. Lot of great guys but too intimidating for the newcomers Move to the different ports. It brings new guys in that fish that particular port and takes guys out of their comfort zones to learn new ports. With the changing of the fishery I like the 1 man DNR weigh in. Lastly an addition I would like to see is during the weighing of your teams fish you give a quick synopsis of your day to the group. Sort of like a report on here. You see guys doing it in small groups but it ends up turning clichy. I think this would be a great way to bring new guys in and start conversations between guys that don't know each other. Thanks for asking my opinion. Whatever the decision's are I think the league is in good hands.
