Get yourself some rigger rods by okuma ( I think one person mentioned the rods might be the issue ). Then, get yourself some GOOD mono. High quality mono makes all the difference. It is the same as saying - I drive a car vs I drive a vette. If you have low quality mono you will not be happy. I had 18lb kings go around my rigger wire this year and not lost the fish with good mono. This happened at least 4 times (lots of rookies on the boat this year). I think the other things is what Ken is mentioning and is on another recent post. The releases make a big difference. I do see where you may want to run different setups deeper than 150. However, I don't spend much time out there. You must be fishing lakers. HA. Just kidding.

pinch pads, rubber bands, and barrels..oh my!
Just Hook'n replied to Phishy's topic in Salmon Pro's Connection
Blacks only on Just Hook'n. Very easy to adjust tension. I used to run pads (light, medium and heavy) on my last boat. I have sent most of them swimming (after getting pissed off). I carry a few extra blacks releases now and do have the pads as back ups, but have not used them in a year at least. -
Some great advice here. The V that Supertramp is talking about is the key. Deepest setup should be the rigger, then dipseys, then boards (coppers, fulls, 5-7, then 1-3 color). I personally use the walleye boards, but I have replaced all my plastic pins with stainless steel. They have them at many stores now, but I know for certain they are at Big Lake in Saugatuck. Aarron will treat you right. I run my 300 copper on 1-2+ with the weight forward. I run my full core on 1+ and everything else on zero. Works everything into the spread nicely. You have to be very careful when pulling lines to change lures, as you have to get around your other boards. Jim (Maniac) is right. Fish with someone that knows what they are doing. You will learn a ton and save yourself a lot of frustration trying to figure it out on your own. Sounds like you have a lot of invites to make good on in the spring. Oh, the reel drags that supertramp is mentioning is also a HUGE help. Set em light light light. So they just click out a little in the waves. When a fish hits, you'll know it.

I like the velco idea. I've witnessed that on other boats and it seems to work very well.

WOW. had you not pointed it out, it would have taken me a while to figure that out (if I ever did). Nice camera work Ken.

last trip for jimbobber
Just Hook'n replied to jimbobber's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Great talking to you out there Jim. Can't wait until next year, but I'm chasing those darn antlered things around too. -
What a GNARLY looking rack. AWESOME job man. MAN, I have buck fever.

I started using net minders this year and it really helped me calm down with rookies netting fish. Before that I would net nearly all the fish on my boat because I hate seeing peopel work to get them to the back only to have a rookie knock them off.

Meat is meat. Great job staying on the trail buddy. Did the dogs come in handy? I've often wondered about that myself.

Big Jon Multi Sets. More rod holders for Priority1
Just Hook'n replied to Priority1's topic in Boat Maintenance and Rigging
Ok, so far I did the following: Pulled the pump head. Put in port-a-pottie. No marina in Port Sheldon so it was a better choice. Pulled spare 25 gallon gas tank. Was just taking up room and weight. Now I have room for more stuff. Fixed compass light. Fixed bilge wiring (got luck this year). Added a LED back light. Very nice illumination on my boat name now. Replaced windows from cabin (the small ones on the sides). Fixed blown line on the trim tabs. Um, that's it for now. Would like to add two more of these, but may have to wait until xmas: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jsp?id=0023002&navCount=1&parentId=cat600035&masterpathid=&navAction=push&cmCat=MainCatcat20166-cat20182-cat600035_TGP&parentType=index&indexId=cat600035&rid= All in all I am pretty happy with those changes, BUT there is always spring. OH, I and I put in a flush mount rod holder for the net where the extra gas tank line was. Yea, that's it I think. -

Welcome aboard. I love your title of the email. HA. I'm on my 8th step in the 12 step program. I don't think I will ever be cured. -
SWEET. We got a lot of those little yellow chested finches this year, and more than once we were able to get them to land on our fingers. This picture is from Mikes boat.

If I had to guess i would say that first pic is of a certain friend whose name I won't mention, but I think it starts with Glen. HA.

Great pictures. It was hilarious watching the boys fall asleep like that a couple times this summer. Brings back the memories.

Just down the dock from me is a 24 bayliner hard top WA series. It is set up. Sleeps 3, fridge under captains chair, full potty on board below. Table outside in the hard top area (could sleep 4 I guess). Great setup out back for fishing. Guy has 4 riggers (big jon of course) and dipsey holders and extras for birds. I did not think it had that much room down below as it looks pretty small, but he explained that the fridge is under the captains chair and that one of the sleeping compartments goes under the other side. Also comes with a powerful 5.7liter that can make that thing move. Not sure on the price, but a very nice setup.

Nice job. No pics, but sounds like you kept your hands clean. I often use that excuse with my crew. Um, guys, I have to clean the boat. Anyone else want to clean fish???? -
