  1. Love you see the old pro's and meet some rookies. I miss you guys. Count me in. I like the idea about teaming up with Steelheaders.
  2. Back in the day 12# is all we used to use. Of course that was with mitchell 300# spinning reels and VERY flexible rods on the riggers. Worth a try, but plan on loosing some spoons and setups until you figure it out. I'm sure it will be fun wrestling in fish with some skill as opposed to muscle. I certainly wouldn't let any rookies use this setup.
  3. WOW, more differences here than I expected. I run 20# fluoro on my fly setups and I typically just use the same as the main line (20 or 25# high quality mono) on my downs. I use a 20# mono on my copper and leads.
  4. Thanks for the link. Good to see some punishment handed out. Not long enough in my opinion and HOW in the world do we let these guys get licenses in 4 years. They should NEVER be allowed to fish again, especially with the history.
  5. Guys, I am an Environmental Engineer by trade, so I know a little about why they want to put them where they do. Wind studies rate wind areas 1-5, 5 being the best. Most inland areas in Michigan (even coastal) are 1-2. The thumb has some wind farms as that area (between the lakes) is a 3-4. The middle of the pond is 4 consistently. The idea of having them in the middle of the pond is that is where the wind is right for them to be profitable (or at least a shorter payback). Certainly it will change the look of the lake. Ken's picutres are very telling. I do think they would create structure to fish however. If you have ever watched fishing in the ocean, they often try to fish around cell towers, oil rigs, etc. The algae that grows on the bases attracts small fish, which attracts little fish, which attracts medium fish . . . . I am all for them if they help get us away from dependence on oil.
  6. Nice job and some great pics. Thanks for sharing.
  7. Jim, are you thinking a certain port, or can we go the entire lakeshore? Might be interesting to get in on this if it is everywhere. I'm down for the barley pop bets.
  8. Great idea Mike. I can't wait to see this go 100%. I tell ya, there are so many bass shows out there, I can't wait to see a great Salmon program. As alway, just let me know if you need my help in any way. The only thing I won't do is where that pink belt with the camera running.
  9. Bill, welcome to the site. Let us know where you normally fish (which port) and you will find lots of friends here willing to share information to make your trips successful.
  10. Walleye, what a sweeeeeet setup. I myself would sit in that all day, probably with a thermos of coffee and baileys.
  11. Wow is he getting big.
  12. Nicely done sir.
  13. Very good shot. Great deer. Way to go.
  14. I might join. Sounds fun. BTW, I LOVE Andy's new avatar.
  15. I love my CV reels. but get them now because the price is going up ( I hear ) if it has not done so already. I've gotten to the point where all my reels are convectors. Really happy with them. If you want a log, I have one. Send me a Private Message with your email and I'll send you the file we use on Just Hook'n. You can modify however you like, but it will give you some ideas. It is sometimes tough to keep up with, but I find (stealing an idea from GLF) that a hand held tape recorder comes in handy when the fishing is fast and furious. Then you can go to the log later and fill it out completely. Personally I would put 3 color on the rods without a setup right now. I was pretty happy this summer with 3, 5, 10 and copper setups. When I add it will be 7 color, but we caught a lot of fish on 3 color this year.
  16. YIKES. Obviously Chicago is going to be pissed about closing the lock system. Why wouldn't they. I think the protection of the largest body of fresh water on the planet justifies closing the locks for a little while, but hey, just my opinion.
  17. I got my vote in. So far you are in the lead with 36% just edging out the competition. But I am sure you check frequently. Great idea. Congrats.
  18. HAHAHA. Funny stuff. WHY oh WHY did I ever get talked into that?
  19. Small small small in the spring, and body baits. Gradually getting bigger - normal to mag spoons. Mag spoons and flasher/fly combos. Fly/flashers almost exclusively. Spoons. J plugs and spoons. Spoons. Back down to smaller baits (spoons). Repeat as necessary each summer.
  20. I would like to add a few more tackle storage boxes like this one: Nice to store things out of the way and clean. And perhaps 150 copper setups.
  21. I love it. Started doing this on my boat after fishing with Mike this year. Works awesome. I don't have the same code (and don't have nearly all the rods to take up all the colors), but I use red, green and blue. Copper lines are obvious as I only have 300'. Hey Mike, I think I remember that trip with your son in PJ's reeling in a fish. AWESOME.
  22. Thanks for the information Ken. At $23.00 this is a heck of a deal for someone wanting to add a few sticks to the deck.
  23. WOWZA. Very impressive. Here I thought you were only a Salmon fisherman. Guess I have not been paying attention.
  24. I will try to make Holland, Port Sheldon (if you bother to stop there) and Grand Haven. MAAAAYBE even Saugatuk or Muskegon.
  25. We use the "pay the fish gods" method. Keep a roll of pennies on the dash. If fishing gets slow you see who can hit the rod between the reel and first eyelet with a penny. Has to be from a seated position, preferably the captains chair. BINGO that rod will go almost every time. My aim is getting pretty good, but GLF (Mike) is really good at this one.
