  1. Very nice work. We noticed the flies on Monday too. Those little buggers can hurt. Nice job thining the population.
  2. Great job and good luck in next weekends tournament.
  3. HOLY COW. How did this post slip passed me. Probably slipped passed a few others too as the "new posts" section has been updating quickly lately. this will bring it to the front again. SWEEEEEEEEEET Brown. I hope that one is going on the wall.
  4. that is amazing. Very cool to have a camera on the boat for just such a situation. that makes a cool story for years to come.
  5. VERY NICE. It's a Tiara. That is a sweeeeet ride.
  6. Now this is a much more productive conversation. I'll voice my opinion now that we are talking proactively. I am for a catch 15 weigh 10 program. Catching 15 makes sense with the 9 rod limit. 3 man rod limit, 3 man fish limit. That way you can cull and still follow the rules. This would also provide less reason for people to knock fish off with the net or another tactic. There has been some talk about a fish in the box is a fish weighed, as opposed to throwing them back like in Bass Masters. I'm a little weary of this idea as I think that mishandling of small fish would lead to a lot of fish floating on the water. Sometimes even when you try to handle a fish right it doesn't work out. This is great guys. Lets get some GOOD ideas out there so that Tournament trail has something to build from this winter. I agree with Jim, they are certainly going to be talking this winter. Lets make sure they have comments to use rather than just complaints. Nice work turning this around. And again, I am sorry for starting to complain.
  7. Sounds jsut like what we did Monday. Does anyone know if there is cold water in closer, like maybe 40-60fow and we just went over it?
  8. I think people are just getting lucky and finding a few pockets of cold water. At least that is what we did Monday night (got lucky). The cold water was not very abundant.
  9. Sounds like a lot of fun. My suggestion on the 25+ pounder loss at the back of the boat. I always fish with my cell and wallet in the cuddy. Just in case I have to go swimming for a trophy with the net.
  10. Those are some nice fishes. Way to go.
  11. Fair enough. Good question. Diesel just has to pick on everyone. My answer (I think) was in the post as well. I'd stay on the fish if you can get at least one every 30 minutes or so. If they are coming one an hour you won't have time to get a full box. If you have about 4-6 fish and have two or so hours left to fish, I would go after some lakers (on the bottom) or change water. This greatly depends on the port as you probably know. Muskegon offers opportunities to go and fish the nets in the last two hours, and Ludington you can fish different depths quickly. In Grand Haven, Holland and south you have to change tactics. Sometimes this means going deep for steel on top (in calm weather). Sometimes this means going in front and trying to fish the mud (listen to Hitman for tips on this topic). If you were able to catch the event this past winter they gave a lot of great advice on fishing different species and different waters. Sorry again to attack the post. Yours was a great question.
  12. Ah, you must have read 1/3 of the post. Two big fish would have gotten you jack (&*)& this weekend. It was about numbers and many good fisherman had trouble getting numbers after sun up. I rarely ruffle feathers here, as you can see by my other posts, whcih are very complimentary, but I have you say that diesel is getting on my nerves with his retorts. If you are in the competition then you had a chance to weigh your fish and it would have counted. If you were not, then don't wish you were. Pony up the money and play. Sorry if I am offending some of you, but think about how those of us that were in the tournament and did pay to play feel about your comments.
  13. Well, as most of you know Sunday was horrible (waves) so we left he boat in Holland for the day. Monday night we decided to fish it back to PS. MAN the water has changed. The cold water is out, or in, I am not sure. We went out to 70 fow and dropped lines heading north. It was 76 degrees up top and 70 down it was 72 degrees. We went out to about 105fow and found 54 degrees 85 down. Hugging the bottom in 95fow we finally found a few pockets of 44 degree water and picked up some fish. There were small pockets of cold water in the 90-110fow range, but we quickly got out of them and the temp probe was reading high 50s to low 60s even 88 down on the rigger with a 12 lb ball at 2.5mph. All in all it was a riot. My buddy Scott's son Harrison boated a nice 15lb and 13 lb kng on 300 copper. One was a blue mylar ace hi (thanks Jim) and the other was a modified blue dolphin. My buddy Les boated two fish on wire divers set out 200 on 1.5. One was a nice 11lb laker and the other a 13 king. Paddles were yellow 8" and uv 8", flies were yellow and green. I boated a 8lb king on the rigger with meat as we were pulling lines. Scott, please post pictures. it was a GREAT calm night out there and we were only joined by 4 or so boats.
  14. We had another 13.5 lb king that we did not weight on Saturday in the 333 as did the boat right next to us at the dock. The thing that most people do in tournaments is fish the big fish until you are out of them. If you only have 6 or 7 out of 10 then you try to bounce the bottom for a few lakers later in the day (or go deep for a few steel, depending on how quickly you can get there). The game IS numbers in Salmon tournaments. If you check the board, our 7 fish weighed enough to put us in 3rd or 4th, but we got bounced by numbers. To that point a boat that only weighed 5 or 6 had bigger weight than us. Also, pulpfishin, I'm wondering how early you were fishing? These tournmaments run after sun up because it is more of a contest of skill at those times. Almost any fisherman can catch fish at first light or just before it (not that you were, but others were out very early).
  15. With that spread you should have entered the 333 event and you have taken the big combo check for $500 at least. Nice work Jimmy.
  16. Nice job Kenny. Great talking to you this weekend.
  17. I wanted to express my appreciation to all those on this site who have helped me to become a better fisherman. We posted 7th this weekend in the Big Red Classic and 5th in the 333 event with a pretty good payout. I also wanted to thank Ron and the Big Red Classic board of directors for putting on a great event. For those of you that were not able to attend, they have a great chicken dinner with free drinks including beer, brats and beer for lunch on Saturday and an indoor area for awards and setup which was second to none. Bang up job all. On another note, we feel truly blessed (and lucky). Fished the event with my father (which is a true blessing), my buddy Scott (Rough Diamond) and a buddy Les. WE had a great time. We were boat number 7, caught 7 fish, and finished 7th. Oh, and it was 8/7/10. 7777 Women's event on Friday found a lady on our boat decorating the water. For those of you that fished Friday morning you know what I mean. For those of you that don't know Sunday was a scratch due to weather. Thanks again to all.
  18. Nice job out there. Way to get on some hogs.
  19. HOLY CRAP. Nice work Phil. Way to put the smack down on em.
  20. Very Nice numbers Bob. Sounds like the family had a great time.
  21. Nice work. People follow others catchign fish, even if they have caught a few. I've actually gotten people (4 boats at a time) to turn around and go the other direction (to clear traffic) by talking on the radio. I wasn't proud of it, but I was sick of the cluster.
  22. Nice work. Glad you got in safe.
  23. That IS impressive. Nice work.
  24. That is gorgeous, and the fish too. You are a lucky man having your wife enjoy fishing with you.
