  1. Welcome aboard captain Ed. My dad is currently in Balwin and we get to Ludington once in a while. Hope to make the classic next summer. We look forward to hearing from you and sharing stories. Glad you found the site.
  2. Ok, maybe it is just me, but what user name and password is everyone using? I tried my system (GLF) user and pass and it didn't work.
  3. Way to go Jimmy. Nice job. I'm glad someone is still fishing. Sadly, I've been in the deer stand with no success. Should have stayed on the water.
  4. Always curious about new products. Let me know what you are running (line, hooks and skirting) and I'll take a look and let you know if I would be interested in trying them.
  5. Never thought about getting a custom Pink rod and reel made. I actually purchased a tuna rod that was hot pink for my wife and just put a okuma spinning reel on it. Every once in a while we'll run it on a rigger. BARELY has any flex, but man it looks good. We call it the "kitchen sink" setup. When nothing else is working, you guessed it, out comes the kitchen sink. If you see us trolling with a pink pole out, you can bet the fishing is pretty slow.
  6. Nice work Matt. That is very cool. Wish I would have started when I was younger. I can't imagine all the knowledge you will gain.
  7. I've found that the 452s with copper gets a little tight, but it may just be my opinion. Personally I'd put 300 copper on a 55 series. Also helps with retrieval speed. If you want to find some stuff for sale, you may want to come to the swap meet in Jenison. I'm sure a few guys here can get you the details.
  8. I think you will find a different attitude here Phil. Also, the best way that I have found to become a better fisherman is to get on board some boats. I've MANY willing people here that have helped me become better.
  9. HEY, I recognize you. Wisconson huh. HMMMM, may need to come over there and catch some of those MONSTER browns they get.
  10. 3 am sounds about right. There were several trips last year that ended at midnight cleaning fish, sleep on boat, can't sleep thinking about fishing, wake up at 3, go fishing. I think I have a sickness.
  11. Happy Turkey Day. This year it falls on my birthday, so DOUBLE party.
  12. Robert, I'm the same way. Always cruising craigs, boat trader, yachtworld, etc. Looking at boats, thinking about a better setup, etc. Unfortunately I am not that close to the lake and have to rely on web cams for my views.
  13. Very nice work as always Kevin. I started spending more time with my Dad on the water this year and it has been awesome. Can't wait for spring.
  14. Sweeet. I can't imagine watching for 20 minutes. Must have felt like 2 hours.
  15. WOW. I don't know what else to say.
  16. OK Brian I will attempt to give you advice, but know that I have only managed to boat a few in the past few years (one hanging on wall). Browns are typically a cold water fish. Slow and low (bottom) is the ticket. In the spring you may get some bounching the sand bars in close. OLD school way was to run a 2lb drop weigh ball in 15 foot with a long leader. We'd run over a sand bar (3-4 drop) and when your lures made it there, BINGO. fish on.
  17. OMG that is AWESOME. Thanks for sharing.
  18. I like my 15 lb pancakes on my riggers. Spreads it out a little (kick each tail out). My boat is only 8.5 wide, so I like to kick the tails out to spread out the riggers a little (very slight bend). I personally have never had a problem with tangles, but I have been on boats that have. NOT pretty.
  19. Hmm, tough question. where to spent money. I think it is funny that everyone is saying Autopilot. I too would like one, but I'm curious to do a survey. How many of the poeple saying autopilot have it, and how many that don't already have a SNT and or electric riggers. My order (right or wrong) was electric riggers, fish hawk, and I'm still trying to get autopilot. Not sure if I would do it any differently knowing what I know now.
  20. Sorry for the late post, but with hunting season I rarely get a chance to play on the site. Took my dads boat out in Pentwater (inner lake) on Friday. Heard a rumor they catch steel this time of year up there, so we figured it was going to be nearly 60 and what the hey, one last trip for the year. Well, action was AWESOME at first with the first fish coming into the boat 10 minutes into the trip. We thought, YA BABY, we know how to do this. 4 hours later, no more fishes. 1 for 1. But, it is always a pleasure getting out with my dad. The new boat fishes just fine. Other than my trying to test the water and my dad grabbing my foot to keep me from swiming, it was a riot.
  21. Sweeeeeeet. Nice work on that deer. Big body no that bad boy.
  22. Hard to beat good equipment. We often (though not as often as I would like) have to leave a rod in a holder for lack of people on board and those on board already fighting fish. Which brand/kind did you go with???
  23. Cool idea. Thanks for the note.
  24. Thanks to all Vets. I'm taking my Dad out fish'n tomorrow (he's a vet). I cherish every moment with him and thank goodness he was safe during his time in the military.
  25. Amen brother. I've been in the woods 90+ hours this year and the closest I have gotten to anything was 60 yards from a small 6 point buck, and I bet I've only gotten to look at 12 deer all year. It's not just a UP thing. HMMMM, maybe they should let us feed them again and the population would be healthier.
