  1. Ben, that is a coooool knot. Thanks for the link. I typically just tie the standard loop in a loop (if that makes sense). Short version - I tie them so you can switch flies easily and quickly.
  2. Yes, if I had to guess, losen the drag and tire the fish out as opposed to horsing them. That being said, every fish is different and there is no one rule of thumb to keep them buttoned. Sometimes they just come undone. Nice trip though. Well done.
  3. 340 . . . seriously? Could you see Wisconson?
  4. WHAT??? Happy BDay Dog. 29 again?
  5. Phil, that is EXACTLY what I'm saying. I did some checking this morning to look at what other "Big" tournaments are doing thinking this may be the trend. It's NOT. Ludington, GH, Saugatuck, etc etc. Still all weighing 12 or 10. MAN, I was really looking forward to fishing this thing because it's our first year staying all summer at Yacht Basin.
  6. Seriously, no one has an opinion on this?
  7. Do you still have the 15lb MI stinger weight?
  8. :-). Other thoughts on this?????
  9. Not a big fan of the new weigh 5 rules. I like the weigh 10 rules as it shows who the REALLY good fisherman are. Typically out of 50 boats the REALLY good fisherman rise to the top in a weigh 10 format. You get a half dozen or so boats that weigh 10 and the big fish get top honors. Also, the points/weight has a greater range. Say the first team has 200 points, the second place team might have 185, third, 179, etc etc. With the weigh 5 format I see the ability for a few "average" fisherman to get lucky and don't really like that. Also I see a few ice cubes or water drops making the difference between 1st and 2nd. Keep in mind, I consider myself one of those average guys, but I don't like the reward of being able beat a boat that consistently boats double digits by just getting luck with some hogs. Personally we may just do the womens event on Friday (because we like and support the cause) and skip the event this year, which would be sad. This was out BIG tournament this year, and now we might not event have one. I'm sure no one will miss us, but I just wanted to state my opinion.
  10. Thanks for the event guys. FINALLY got to fish one this year. OH, I think I owe Jon a corona. I tipped it over at the weigh in. BEER FOUL. Sorry buddy.
  11. It was awesome to be a part of that. Thanks Don and Tony.
  12. Impressive for this past weekend. Hell, impressive for any weekend. Nice box guys.
  13. Ncie work Dave, and YES - thank you for our Freedom.
  14. WOW, what an experience. Glad the kid made it. They don't always turn out positive.
  15. That's a PILE of fish Terry. Nice work.
  16. Nice job Jacob. Great to see a report with some cold water in it.
  17. Not to beat a dead horse, but vacuum sealer is the way to go for fish you are keeping for more than a couple weeks. We'll get lazy and do the bags with water once in a while if we know they are coming out in a month. I also dry mine out with a paper towel before vacuuming as someone else suggested.
  18. Nice work guys. HEY Jon, you got the engine in, GREAT.
  19. 15 pounds is awesome. Nice fish.
  20. 5 on a shake down is GREAT. Nice work.
  21. Did you say RELEASED????? That must have been out of season, because any one of those would be on my wall.
  22. I sharpen everything. Spoons I don't bother changing them out, but I do sharpen each one - doesn't matter the brand. On flies, the only ones I don't mess with are BW. They pay attention to hooks. All other brands I change out to single Gama number 4 with a bass style trailer. Works awesome. Hook up ratios went way up when I did this a few years back.
