Great looking fish, and nice work out there...thanks for the report.

Don't be afraid to stay out until way after dar, but only if you are ready for it. You will definately want GPS to get you safely back home - if you don't have one it may limit your trip because you may either get stuck or worse if you don't knwo where the shallow spots are in the lake you are coming home to. You will want lights on the back of the boat to hel you net fish and see your rigger rods after the sun goes down. As stated in other posts, you can really get into the fish after the sun goes down with glow spoons/plugs/rigs. It doesn't always work, but it can be a riot some times.

Don't beat yourself up too bad...fishing is very slwo right now...occassionally guys will get on a bunch of fish and go 10 for xx, but that is pretty rare...you have to remember, for the guy that reports that...there were 100 other boats out that probably didn't do that well (or they would have reported it). We tend to get embarrased and not report when the fishn is not good.

Nice decision....every big fish is memorable, but with good friends and good company...I'd put that on the wall in a heartbeat...Thanks for the picture and the rest of the story...awesome, just awesome.

We heard you out there...talking about catching one fish with 3 lines - NOT FUN....

Well, we had a bright idea to get out in front of everyone and hopefully catch some of the hogs people have been catchign before the sun came up. We figured that the boat traffic wasn't helping this year so if we got out there early and set up the glow program like we used to do we'd knock em dead. So, 3:30 the alarm goes off, the guys are at the dock at 3:50 and we set out for an early morning of nailing fish with glow spoons, plugs, boards, meat rigs, etc. WELLLLLLL that didn't work...we got one setting up on a 100 copper with a half moon bad tad...60 fow...the rest of the setup went in with no takers. Made it out to 100fow, turned back into teh waves (south) and got a few hits...double glow ace high on a 300 copper on fish one swing and a opps copper gone about one foot after the knot...saved the board though. While dorking around with that a rigger goes 60 down with a blue splatterback glow J plug. By now the sun has come up (a long time ago) and our program to get em early did no good, except everyone on the boat is damn near sleeping even in 2-3 foot waves. We marked the crap out of fish early, just could not get them to go. But, we got some fish in the cooler and it was an early day...took about a 4 hour nap when I finally made it home.

Way to go man...wow 30lber solo...nice.

The depth will go from 150fow up to 70 back down to 180 in a mile...it's crazy...Be ready on the rigger buttons to pull stuff up. Erik's right - it's worth the trip - but you get spoiled with structure.

WOW, nice solo trip...way to go. I've never attempted the solo trip...I mess stuff up with a full crew, can't imagine trying to do it all a the same time.

I really want to see some pictures of the new rig on the pond. Perhaps one of these time when we both know the other is going out we can snap some shots of eachother on the way out.

I started doing this "salmon nugets" thing after we experienced it a few years back at a steelheaders meeting....my kid would not eat salmon off the grill with my wife and I...he'sa sucker for "nugets" so when they had these at the meeting I figured what the heck...he ate them like they were the only food he'd eaten all week...since then I try to cut up the big fish we get after the pin bones end (tail section) into 1"x1" chunks...works awesome.

We caught nothing but cookie cutters last week as well. A few big fish, but mostly 6-8 lbs.
