I believe that its supposed to be an east wind making it rough farther out but should be good closer to shore. Depends on how far ya heading out. I hope it calms down and is decent for the AM. Just checked near shore at top of GLF and both North or South called for 1-2'. Might just wait to head out sunday night with the big 13 footers!!!

This seems to be the popular vote that the well worn, thinner skirts are best. I just tied a crapload of my first batch of flies and tried to make some thinner. Only time will tell this rookie what works best. I did enjoy tying them and had fun making color combos(about 50). Honestly i think i got my $20 worth of entertainment learning how to tie and rigging them. Another hobby to help get thru the winter. Bring on the catchin after all this rigging.

I had mine done at a baitshop. My copper is tied to the line. I have seen in the past a small swivel then wrapped in tape or shrinkwrap to allow it to go through reel. Not sure exactly what knots though. I dont have wire but i know most with 1000' on reel tie direct were as 600' most have leaders. Sorry no better info. A few ideas on this thread search. Had me Dan, I never question what lies in the infamous Hot Ponds. Had some good time s there over the years. Always quite the interesting mix of fish in there. -
Looks like the wind blew slushy icey type stuff back into the pier heads. ALthough it doesnt appear to be extending out too far. Just hope it doesnt increase with the cold weather this week. Saw a guy fishing pier in GH on cam. Did a little cruise today on local lake that busted open.

Went around yesterday to check local lakes around Kzoo. Only Austin and West Lake were open. Open spots in others but still lots of ice around them. Took the Nee Hi out for a little venture today at Austin Lake just to make sure everything was running good and get a little cruise in. Water was 38 degrees. Trolled a few stickbaits for a little bit with no takers. Glad to see open water as welll as a guy i talked to that was launching as i was loading up. Felt great to be cruising wide open on open water!!!

I like it. My buddy has been looking at a boat and told me and the old lady that he let something slip to his wife. I said just show up with it. My fiancee said that you should never do anything like that. I then explained to him that its easier to ask for foregiveness than permission:lol:. She did NOT like that comment. This was after i showed up from the DandR Sports show on Saturday with lots of goodies:grin:

j1musser replied to Yankee Troller's topic in New York Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Glad to hear a report!!! Im heading to a local lake just to get a little boat ride in and maybe a few bass/ muskie. Wishin going to lk mich but gotta work still today:mad:. Getting to be that time. It rained horribly bad here all weekend too, naturally plenty warm to fish. Thanks for report. -
Thanks Mike. See ya tommorow.

Thanks Erik and welcome to GLF. I always wondered why they never had a webcam at St Joe, pretty busy port. Same deal with city pointing at many other cams too:rolleyes:. Mike is there any way you could add that to the button up top? I really enjoy the quicklinks button up top for a quick view of the lake.

Hard to tell but the webcams are looking promising outta Holland. Looks like open water with a fewice chunks to me.:D:cool: Please say it is so. Maybe next week with warmer temps and a little rain.
-
10 day Weather forecast is looking promising with lots of days in the 40's and a few 50 degree days.:):):D:D Please get me on the water soooon!!!!!!

Ahhh..... yeah thats asking a little bit too much. I dont think i would phrase a question like that to one of my good buddies. I mean come on. I probably woulda answered with a response sending them to coordinates near Canada. That cracks me up, does he want you too help go tinkle out there also? At least he said thanks.

Not sure exactly which cameras ya looking for but up top there is a link to webcams that are located around the great lake. Some only run in summer but i keep checking daily to see when its gonna bust open. I use these to check realtime wave conditions in summer too.No st joe cam that i am aware of:(. There is a new buffalo one but i think its off for winter still. Wont open for me.

I think it only took me a day:) I am looking to apply some of the tips/tricks and slowly try some others during tough/slow times when my standard program is not working. Looking at how each part of presentation affects each other was big thing i took out of it. Very good book in my opinion. Have fun, thats what its all about. Totally agree with Boomerang about working on the water. It will get easier. Ecept for dealing with snow and hard water:angry2:

Great question. I have not used them yet but would like to try a couple to check them out.Might be one of thoe things that is the trick one day and the next it dont matter to them.

Thats an awesome video that is getting me pumped. Gotta love the diver rods just ripping. Have not heard that sweet sound of screamin drag in way to long.

Welcome to GLF. Lots of good folks around these parts and its sounds like you have some good advice to help us alll out too;).

I switched over to superline last year and love it.I just picked up a 1000yd spool of 30# Ripcord in Cabelas Bargain Cave for $39. Using it for my dipsies and backing fo core.Pretry good price compared to other braids and have heard nothing but positive comments about it. Wish i could help on depth curve of Dacron:confused:.

Never even fished with an 11" flasher. dont own one but might pick up 1 or 2 for running deep on wire dipsy or rigger. Any particular colors better as it seems most are running these quite deep compared to 8" flashers? Always something new to try.:D
