Good job Jeff! But if my lines are sparking I am outa there. If you have ever been caught in a Super cell storm u will know what I mean. Manistee 1983 we got caught in one saw a water spout just outside of our position and befor we could get lines pulled and the riggers up we were in it lightning fried my graph and radio and we took waves that went over the top of the boat nearly swamping us. From then on when the lightning starts I stay off of the pond. There is no fish worth your life. (By the way that boat was a 24' Sea Eagle Cuddy offshore fisherman. Built for big water. Ok so the day got a late start due to unforseen problems with one the guys getting to the boat. Finally left the slip @ 6:45 and ran strait out to about 75FOW and set a program up of 4 Riggers and 2 300' 45# coppper and 2 full cores. Riggers were set upwith 2 11" paddles White double glow e-chip flasher with a Siggs rig blue greenbubble set at 77 dn and a green glow e-chip with a DW Green weenie @ 84 dn, a carmel dolphin Stinger SS at 65 dn and a mag DW NBK @ 49 dn. The cores had standard fishlander carmel dolphin and a standard fishlander NBK. The coppers were set up with standard NBK and Mag carmel dophin Stingray spoons. Finally set up and fishing when the 300 copper went in 87 FOW fish straightened out a crosslock swivel and came off with my mag Carmel dolphin spoon reset and set the rod down when the white paddle @ 77dn on the rigger went and that one was a screamer leader broke at the hook. (No more fluoro Carbon leaders) Ended the day with 6 for 11 4 Kings 1 nice Steelhead and 1 Laker that we shook off without taking it out of the water. It was a tough day on the MC2 lost 1 fly 3 spoons and a complete 300' of copper line when the dipsy and the copper on the same side crossed and the dipsey cut the backer on the copper. However there are fish in 95 to 115 FOW straight out fm the pierheads and a north south troll worked best. There was a strong south east to Northwest current today. Am gonna try to attach photos that I loaded into the gallery. Both of my fishermen were first timers and they at least got to feel the pull of a big silver fish, largest King was around 15 lbs

The braid is my best set up for the dipseys not as hard on guides and i dont need a twill tip to run it. Paulywood said it best plugs and spoons off core and copper keeps the tangles to a minimum. The big paddles and spinnies tend to wind up together when you are making turns.

The dipseys work very well with spoons and with flasher fly combo, run about 4' of leader to your flasher and then attach your fly, to run a spoon off of a dipsey use about 5 to 6' of leader and attach your spoon to a 30# coast lock or standard ball bearing swivel set your angle on your dipsey and run it back. I always stick with spoons off of my lead core (except early spring then I run body baits on 1 and 2 color rigs in shallow for coho and browns. One question that I forgot to ask is what kind of line do you run for your dipseys. I have great luck with 40# wire and with 40# power pro braid. Gets the dipsey deeper with less line out and seems to set the hooks better on a strike.

I have lost some flies and some plugs using 20# fluoro carbon leader, just picked up some 40# gonna give it a try. Funny I agree that I never had the problem when I was using 30# Big game.

Nick said it all. If you are running all your baits at the same depth, the big boards work well but if you run full cores, 300' of 45#copper and shorter or longer versions of the same set ups you are running different depths and the inlines allow you to set your deeper sets closer to the boat and work out to your shallowest depth and re set without having to move any of your other setups. The Big boards really shine for walleyes when you are trolling diving plugs and trying to get them all into the same depth.

Glad we stayed home this weekend, I am getting too old to bounce around in 2 to 4's when the fishing has been slow. Gonna try to get out again during the week. Nice job on the trout Mike.

45# copper 300' @ 2.5mph 85 to 88 ft, 150' 45'.

Went over to the boat this afternoon for a short perch trip and ended up getting on the water about 12:30. Ran down to about a mile north of deerlick creek and slowed befor we got to the pack. Most of the boats were in a bout 20 FOW, moved out to 30 FOW and cruised until we found a school of fish in 29 FOW. Dropped the hook and in the next 2 hours caught 36 nice eaters and 2 gobies.

Cleared the pierheads @ 6:10AM and ran NW to 85 FOW set 4 riggers with a combo of NBK Mag glow, Moonglow Flounder Pounder, and Carmel dolphin glow spoons, 60' down to 84', 2 full cores with the same spoons and 2 300' 45# copper with same glow green and yellow patterns, First fish was a laker on the starboard copper rig, released that one, next was a king about 8# on the rigger Flounder pounder down 85. Got out to 120 and continued on a north troll and had steady action out to 175 FOW, 3 undersized lakers and another King about 10# all on the Flounder pounder on the copper rigs. Changed to Paddles and flies on the riggers and set an 11" white e chip paddle with a Sigs rig blue bubble down 136 wasnt down 3 minutes and got another Lake trout about 10#, then the other deep rigger down 118' in 179 FOW fired, 8" echip white glow flasher with a Sigs blue mirage fly. Ended the day with 3 Lakers and 3 Kings in the box and released 3 small Lakers. (shame to have to release undersized fish that come up fm 100' or more they don't stand a chance.) Finished up the day just south of the Saugatuck pierheads in 178 FOW. A long run back to S.Haven with the lake conditions. 2 to 3 footers all morning but very fishable. The 7'6" will work fine if you are not running any other boards, if you decide to run more boards just keep the shorter rods more to the stern of the boat and angled more down than the longer outside rods. Ugly Sticks are great rods and you won't be disappointed in them. If you can afford a couple of Lead Core rigs to run higher in the water column, then go to a 9' Dipsy rod Okuma makes one that is great for running boards Med action is what I use. Fortunately we had good weather and not too much in the way of Heavy Water on the south end of the pond, but the boat traffic was ridiculous. Damn near got hit broadside coming into the gas dock guy came out of the city marina and didnt even look to see if anyone was coming up along side.

Wonderbread and the Green glow spatterback are killer when the plug bite is on.

The MC2 was right there just out from Deerlick Sunday in about 28 FOW Managed to boat some nice Perch and just a few Gobies, ended up with 22 in about 1 hour got too hot for the rest of the people on the boat so we headed for the slip and a nice steak dinner. A fellow in the Slip just down from me got a catfish too. Not sure if that was you or not but they are easy to clean. Don't give up on the cores, some days it is the only thing working. I know it is a pain in the Butt but she works. I haven't always caught fish on the cores, but I always run them. I run 2 10 color cores a 7 color a 4 color and 2 300' 45# copper rigs all summer. the 7 color and 4 color are set ups specifically for Steelhead high in the water column. Speed can help too I speed up to 2.7 Knots on the GPS in the summer time.

My Okuma 55s both work great with the albright knot and the rods I use are the Eagle Claw 408's 8'6" the guides are large enough to get the knots thru, I use a 40# Power Pro Backer and about 40 feet of 20# Berkley Vanish fluoro carbon for a leader. The Albright knot is very easy to tie and you can get an instructional easily on the net by googling fishing knots.

Left the slip at 5:30 AM, ran NW to 80 FOW and started to set lines on a NW troll. Got everything set 4 riggers fm 49'down to 82' dn 2 full cores and 2 300' of copper. Had Mark Brand and my neighbors son with me. when we hit 96' the first rigger 66' dn with DW NBK Glow fired, nice 8# king, befor that one was in the net full core fired with Fishlander green all glow Steelhead around 6# , got everything back in place and the 55' rigger fired Fishlander Green all glow another steelhead. Slowed for a bit then as we passed the spot I set as a waypoint on the first strike the 300 copper fired Laker about 5#, next was another King about 15# on 300 copper Green all glow. Then had another hit on the fullcore FuzzyBear bumble bee orange back small king that was hooked thru the gills. Then the rigger set at 66' fired again nice 7 to 8# Skamania Steelhead. Then the 82' rigger with a 8" white pearl flasher and a horsefly fired nice King. Finished up with another King on the 66' rigger DW NBK Glow a really nice King about 13#. All of the fish came in a very small area around my waypoint and all were between 96 and 122 FOW. A great morning and 10 in the box by 11AM> Just a note about the Sea Flea issue, I spent some time on Monday changing my riggers fm braid to cable and changing all of my downrigger rods to Cortland Flea Flicker line.
