I keep at least 2 full core rods set up all of the time I also have a couple each of 7 color, 5 color 2 color and SWR rigs. The catch is that I have the ability to run up to 15 rods on my rig, the long lines on inline boards on the 3 rod trees on both gunwales and the great lakes singles on the gunwales. 2 pocket rod holders on the stern corners and 2 each on my 4 walker downriggers. I also can ad the 4 on the cabin roof if I turn them 90 degrees. The most important thing in running multiple rod setups is not how they are arranged on the boat but how the spread runs in the water. the shallowest rig should be farthest from the boat on both sides, then work deeper as you come in. I usually have a 300' copper closest to the boat then a full core then a shorter color depending on depth wanted. The 5 and 7 colors have been hot lately. They are really for Steelhead and only run 25 and 35 feet deep respectively. You can add dive bombs to get more depth if you need just remember the outside lines should always run above the inside lines. Making a big V shape.

The Silver Horde is meant to have a leader tied to the hook chain, with a loop or snap that attaches to the main line swivel. The Ace Hi is a direct tie to the split ring, no need for a mainline swivel as the bait is not a twister it is a side to side searcher. Look at the way the guys hook up the Rapala type baits for the correct method for the Ace Hi. The Silver Horde and J plug are similar and the bait swims side to side when the strike comes the body slides up the line out of the fish's mouth and helps prevent knocking the fish off. This also enbales you to retrieve the body if the leader breaks, they pop right to the surface.

They are the only release I use, and I have been since about 1981, befor that we used walker releases, our catch ratio went up when we started using bands, and u never have a dragger on a downrigger they always start the rod bouncing when they smack the bait. No problems with the bilge we just take care to never leave them on the deck.

Another method is the Rubber band method, Set your main line as normal send it down about 10 ft or where ever u want to run the slider, attach a leader that is 4 to 6 ft in length with snap swivels on both ends 1 has the lure the other goes around the main line. take a #16 rubber pass it around the main line and secure it to the swivel attached to the main line. Do not tighten it so much it will not slide down the line when a fish hits. Be sure to put a stop about 3 ft above your bottom bait to keep the slider fm going all the way to the main line swivel. I have used this for a long time to make fixed sliders, no more gadgets to buy as I use bands for releases.

It sure is addicting, try running longer leads to your flies I usually run about 4X the length of the paddle or flasher, ie 8" flasher 24" lead, 11" flasher 44 to 48" lead. Learned that at a GLF seminar 2 years ago and tried it it works. U can always shorten the leader if your arent getting strikes.

Way to go Jim. I love my trees, the same ones u have they really make running boards a slick deal. The best was gettin a newbie on a nice Steelhead like that and wearing her out. That is the only drawback to running the long copper and leadcore setups. On my boat no one wants to grab the rod when the 300 copper or full core goes. The sunset was really magnificent. -
Perch, PLEASE show up!

Pyles in S. Haven is reporting good catches from the Dunes south past the power plant in 28 to 35 FOW. It is a long run fm S. Haven down there but it can be worth it. -

Flea flicker is a line made by Courtland,it is 20# test and has a flat feel to it I keep 5 reels on my boat filled with it and at first flea I switch out reels. They dont stay around for the whole summer but late June into the end of July they kill u. Wire divers are not effected by it neither is leadcore or copper. But I made the mistake of trying Power Pro for my downriggers a couple of years back and even the 400# stuff had major issues with the sea fleas. The line sells in bulk spools of 2500 yards for about 40 bucks. I get it at D&R sports in Kalamazoo . Welcome to middle of the summer Salmon fishing.

Left the slip at 5:30 and went out to 70 FOW and started marking fish. Set up was 4 riggers 2 wire dipseys 2 full cores 1 300 copper, 2 5 color rigs and a 4 color. We ended the day with 6 fish kept 2 released and 2 Farmered behind the boat. Oh and we caught a really nice blow up love doll. On a 5 color rig. If the pics paste u can see the rigs and colors. All of the fish came between 75 and 88 FOW on a SE to NW troll or the reverse NW to SE. On the way in we tripped the last rod an SWR rig with the watermelon Fishlander on it and the last fish of the day came in 46 FOW Laker.
