  1. In the 1950's my grandfather ran leadcore when he was trolling for trout in Washington state, he would mark the core with different colors of paint to make it easier to count how much lead core was out he ran straight out the 2 sides of a small boat , trolled with a Martin 5hp motor and caught lots of fish. When he went to Puget Sound he did the same for Salmon and caught them too. To answer your question YES u can run as much or as little as u want down the chute. The big issue is how many lines do u want cluttering up the middle of the transom.
  2. Ahhh yes NBK been hot on the east side too!
  3. I agree why short yourself on wire I spool 1000' of 30# wire, it fills the reel and that keeps the counter as accurate as is possible, My reels are made with pin on the arbor so I do a 1/2 hitch with a knot on the tag end and pull it tight. This comes in handy when the sea fleas are out like they are now, just bring it in cut off the dipsey slide the fleas off the end and retie, you have plenty of wire to be able to do this and not take it down to the arbor. A double half hitch works just fine never had a slip or broken knot and have caught a lot of large Kings on that knot. So in answer to your question, 100 yards isn't enough and I guess if u must tie on backer an albright knot works well.
  4. U have to post to a new post it works>
  5. Its called a bumblebee and it works
  6. No problem with a stacker, but dont try to run a slider.
  7. Check out the earlier posts in this thread, but basically it is a 1 or 2 color of leadcore run on the deepest rigger in your spread. It is ok to run a stacker above the rig just keep it short. I do not however recommend running sliders on an SWR.
  8. Yep u got it 1 or 2 colors of lead, bottom rigger and hang on it runs 6 to 8 ft below the ball and can be a real killer when fish are spooked by the cannonball. I use about 50' of 20# fluorocarbon leader,(do not use the regular line, use the leader matl). If u run paddles keep them on the opposite side of the boat, or run on the SWR. I like to run Plugs or spoons on it.
  9. The biggest problem with leadcore is getting kinks in the core, that weakens the line and can cause real issues. To store it u should store as you would Mono, in a dark cool place. My Grandfather used leadcore in the 1940's and 1950's every year he would stretch the line out and re tie the leader he never had an issue with the line going bad. To stretch the line out u can use an old clothesline the kind with 2 T poles and just wrap the core around both keeping it tight and then checking for bad spots in the core. if the core is broken or kinked really bad cut it out and us a willis knot to splice in a piece of mono, or make it into shorter cores.
  10. Nice job Larry! YUM!!!!!!!!
  11. Todd there is a really good description of how to post pics on your posts it is under the forums and describes the procedure really well. Nice job on the fish in the Joe. The how to forums and there are posts for posting video as well as pics.
  12. Jon: Can u post a pic of the steel pin and what matl did u use. Thx
  13. Now that is a slobber knocker trout. Great report on the tournament skipper.
  14. I use the Walleye boards almost exclusively. The only drawback I see is that the pin is prone to wearing thru and has to be replaced yearly. TheTX12 boards are ok in the spring for coho but with weighted lines anything more than 4 colors of Leadcore they are too small. The new TX44 is huge and I just cant bring myself to try them. I run 300' of 45# copper on the Walleye board and all I do is adjust the weight toward the nose of the board about 1/4" it works great and I catch a lot of fish on that set up.
  15. It is 1 color of leadcore and u can run it off the riggers let out the leadcore and 20 to 30 ft of backer it gets the bait below the cannon ball and helps to trigger fish that are spooked by the ball. Just tie a Willis knot by taking about 2 to 3 inches of core out of the leadcore, tie a loose halfhitch in the core and insert the backer into the hollow of the leadcore that u have just taken the coreout of then roll the half hitch down to the point it is over the backer and tighten it down then do the same on the other end of the core with about 50 ft of 20# fluorocarbon leader and u have an SWR rig.
  16. Welcome to the site John hope u get a lot of help. Most of the guys here are really great about helping newcomers to get a good start.
  17. Use the divers it is realy your only option. I would suggest staying in the river with such a small rig. The pier heads can be the roughest spot on the lake because of current hitting calm water and boat wakes.
  18. iTS A HOOT when u get 2 fresh Kings on the same line It happens at least once every year when the kings are staging in the 70 to 90 fow ran. I run a lot of free sliders but when the fish are concentrated in a small layer of water the rubberband method is the ticket.
  19. Paul the sad thing is the fish were there and a lot of them! But so many boats in the small area maybe 1/2 mile north to just south of the barge that they were spooked and were going right up the river. It was hilarious at 2 pm when we came in there were still a dozen boats working the dirty water. Good luck to em.
  20. The MC2 left the slip @ 5:30 and set lines at the peir heads at 5:50. got 4 riggers set and the first fish of the day hit an orange killer 70 back and 18 dn on the rigger in 26 FOW. I would like say that the day got better but not the case. We stayed around the piers until it was so full of boats you had to be real careful to not run over any other boats gear, especially the 1 guy that had to go clockwise in a counter clockwise pack of boats. Must have been 30 in a very small are in front of the pier. Oh well first fish was a nice Skamania about 7 lbs. Pulled the gear @ 7:15 and ran to 180 and trolled out to 220 not a hint of a fish and not much on the graph. Trolled in toward the pier and finally at 12:40 the 300' 45# copper ripped on the Starboard side of the boat. Handed the rod to a lady fm Seattle Washington and she did a super job to boat a 23# King, the first fish she had ever caught, (Stinger Lemon Ice). @ 1:30 we had the final fish of the day, on the port 300 copper a nice 3 year old King around 12 lbs. (Stinger Lemon Killer). And that was it for the day fished from 5:50 AM to 1:55 and only 3 to show for it but all were nice fish and my friends Tom Woods and his sister, Brother in law and Sister in law all had a great day on the water. All smiles at the cleaning station.
  21. Alwlays a good day on the water gettin the stink off the boat is a big plus too.
  22. It depends on depth of water and where the fish are located in the water column but the riggers for sure 2 rods and 2 wire divers are a must after that the lead core can be confusing but start with full core of 27 or 36# leadcore should get u between 45 and 60 ft down, I like to run copper for deep long line presentations so I have 2 300' of 45# copper in the spread when we go deeper than 90 fow. That runs around 80' down. U have a lot of options but the dipseys and riggers should be your key presentations, If your dipseys arent getting hit lengthen the leader to between 8 and 12' it should increase your strikes on the dipseys. Good luck
