  1. That is exactly right, don't fall for the cheap swivels, and dont buy swivels with unwelded split rings. I used to use Sampo swivels but now use some I found with welded rings. Size 3 and 4 work best for me. don't buy bargain swivels. I pay about 6 bucks for 3 swivels.
  2. Check out the Big Weenie Meat rigs and paddles, They are reallly good. If u run meat, u will have to slow down for the meat rig paddles. 1.8 to 2.0 mph at the ball, but when meat is working it is best to run as much of it as u can get down. 48" leaders and 3 fly rigs are my best performers. I like the UV heads and owner hooks on the Big weenie rigs.
  3. Brown Trout Definitely ck out this one caught by Jim in Milwaukee
  4. Funny how those Bass guys get hooked on Silver Fish after a day of gettin beat up by em. Way to make another Silver addict Bill.
  5. I hear u Thanks for the offer, I know what u mean about July fishing, but to have so many come unbuttoned it was the worst catch ratio day ever for me and I have been fishing the lake since the early 1970's. I guess I thought everyone would get a kick out of my crying. Hope to see you out next weekend.
  6. If u find my walleye boards, please call me number is on the board.
  7. What a catastrophe for the MC2 today, Ended our day at 1PM with 3 coho, 1 King and 2 Steelhead, however we had 16 fish come off or be lost by equipment failure. Fished 70 to 100 FOW all spoons Greens Blues and Oranges. Speed 3.7 to 4.0 and the Steelhead were on it. Lost a 300' copper when the board flipped and cut the backer, lost a 6 color when the core broke, took a hook thur my rt index finger cut the barb off and backed the hook out. Had a Steelhead jump out of the net when I was lifting it over the gunwale and came down with the leader across a rigger cable. What else can go wrong. Lots of action and not much catching. Lost 3 boards too. Just not my day. But my friends from Illinois had a blast. We found lots of bait between 55 and 80 FOW, and the Steelhead were on them. Tried lots of speed changes and found that the north troll at 3.7 was the best. Gotta get my mojo back after this mess.
  8. If we get a sustained easterly wind the cold water will move inshore, and the fish will come with it . 4 to 5 degrees can make a huge difference. I will be fishing St Joe Sunday and I plan on starting in 45 FOW and working SW.
  9. You are making a big mistake if u get stuck at any 1 speed, The lures u r fishing make a big difference in the speed. Paddles will spin up and be useless at 2.7 mph, J Plugs are somewhat speed tolerant but do better between 2.0 and 2.5 mph, Spoons can be fished at any speed but faster is usually better. Sunday we trolled 2.2 at the ball, caught 7 coho in an hour and a half, sped up to 3.0 at the ball and caught 5 steelhead in a half hour. Would have caught more but had a chummer on board.
  10. Awesome data.
  11. Well done ADAM what a year it has been.
  12. Dont let your wire get slack, u r taking every thing off and leaving the swivel hang and the wire has a memory. Try hooking your swivel to the hook holder at the base of the rod, tighten it down, dont be afraid to pull the twill tip over, No more curley wire. I leave my dipsey on and just spin the leader around the rod keeps everything nice and straight. Good luck, u will really like the Twill tips with your wire dipsey set ups.
  13. Short morning at the Joe. Left the slip at 5:45, set lines in 50 FOW North of the piers. and started trolling with the wind. First fish came while we were still setting. Coho 29 dn on rigger Blue Dolphin stinger. From there out we were busy until Gary started chummin at about 9:30. We caught fish on Dipsey 1" white paddle with blue bubble fly, Orange killer on 4 color took 4 fish, Orange killer on 6 color took 2, Full cores both took fish with Blue dolphin Stingers. Just a lot of action, ended up with 5 Steelhead and 7 Coho all in the top layer of water, deepest fish was taken on Wire dipsey set on 1 with 11" white Paddle and blue bubble fly. We also took a couple on a Power Pro dipsey with Fishlander Kevorkian. Too bad we had to quit, but I wont make anyone stay out when they start to chum. 12 fish and happy fishermen. BTW where was calm to a foot? We were seeing 3 footers.
  14. Ed said it, get a sandwich and change directions to troll with the waves and stand by. If that doesn't work try changing out a few baits and then last of all get out a dodger and spin n glow or a wobble and drop it on the bottom and catch a grease ball. Works every timel they crap on the boat and the silver fish decide to bite. ( seriously) I vary speeds a lot unitl I find the right speed for the fish on that day.
  15. Nice job Larry. Hope we can get out Sunday. Spent Tuesday afternoon getting some stuff done on the boat and the wind in the Marina was howling. See you out there.
  16. Well done Ed, nice looking cooler of Kings.
  17. We lost a Walleye Board out of ST Joe on the 4th, thought it was gone forever. Today I got a call from a lady whose husband had found our board in South Haven on Friday, and gave me information so I can pick it up. Put your name on your stuff and it will be returned if u lose it. I still dont know the mans name but I do have their phone # Thanks again, Fishermen are The best.
  18. I was informed that the spray they use for horses works on the little biters too. U can pick some up at a Tractor Supply. I am gonna try it and will let all know how it works.
  19. I use an Okuma 8'6" dipsy mooching rod for my short coppers and my 300' coppers I use an 8' Okuma dipsy mooching rod no issues. I really like the action on these rods and haven't had any issues with guides in 3 seasons.
  20. Left the Piers at 5:45, went North to 60 FOW and started setting lines, 4 riggers 2 with spoons at 49 and 52, Stinger Modified Blue Dolphin at 52 and Stinger Orange Killer at 49, deep riggers at 65 and 59 with more of the same. Wire dipseys on 1 out 90 with stinger blue dolphin, out 125 with white 8" paddle and a home tied blue bubble fly. 2 full 1 with stinger Craigs Christmas, and 1 with a gold and red Brads Thin fin. 4 color with Orange Killer and 6 color with a red Coach Dog Brads Thin Fin. All of our Hits came between 80 and 115 FOW North of Rocky Gap. Best troll direction was N and S, Speed was SOG 3.0 on a North troll speed down was 2.2. South troll we were going 2.5 SOG and 2.4 Down. The Steelhead were really firing, we landed 4,lost 4 and had 3 other rips on the 6 and 4 colors. The Dipsey with white paddle and Blue bubble fly took the big fish honors, Dandy King. We ended up 9 for 16 released 1 small King that hit a rigger. 3 coho all on cores and 300 45# copper with Copper Bloody Nose DW spoon and Fuzzy Bear Orange and yellow Spoon that I cant remember the name.
