St. Joe this weekend
SUPERTRAMP replied to DocPaul's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Give the MC2 a call Sunday morning, going to start in front and if nothing going on will head South to about 80 and set up on a North troll. Not sure what is going on havent been out for a couple of weeks but we slip at Brians Marina and will talk to our neighbors befor we head out. See you on the Lake. We are a 23 ft John Allmand Hard top all white, and we look like a porcupine with all out gear set out. -
9.14.12 - Schooling Baits and Fishermen?
SUPERTRAMP replied to Dave Mull's topic in General Discussion
The wire should not effect the way the spoon runs, it will make the wobble quicker, and it wont roll as much but it will flash a lot, I tried it and had no luck that way. I have thought a lot about running one of the soft body baits like Dave showed in the thread, but its just more stuff to go along with the really effective stuff I already run. One of these days I will try it. I think the Berkley Gulp might work for meat rigs too. But the soft shad imitators might really work. -

SUPERTRAMP replied to Sea Eagle's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Nice Job Tarrey. The shelf in Manistee is a real neat feature. Once u fish up there u will really come to enjoy not having to run 6 miles offshore to find 100 FOW. We almost went up for a long weekend in August but it didnt work out. -
I would reiterate what Frank said good rod holders and well mounted. If u can afford an adjustable rod holder all the better.

Lowrance LCX28cHD Problems
SUPERTRAMP replied to blahblahduchunter's topic in Salmon Pro's Connection
My Lowrance LCX 17 did the same thing this year, it was out of warranty and I just went and got a new graph. If your unit is less than a year old it should be under warranty, call Lowrance electronics for information on service. But my guess is that the LCD screen went bad. -
Currently I run the Cabelas version of the Diawa 47lc, they have a good smooth drag and aren't going to cost u an arm and a leg to get started, I have found the 8' Okuma Dipsey rod to be really good with a Twill tip. The one thing to remember with wire is never take the dipsey off and just let the swivel or snap hang, u will get curly wire. I tie the wire direct to the dipsey with a double overhand knot and have never had a knot break. then when I finish for the day I hook my leader to the hook keeper on the r od and wrap that around the rod by just turning the rod until the leader is wrapped. No kinks no sloppy wire and they dont tangle. easy to store that way too on my boat.

Nice job Ross, the best is yet to come. -
What Ben Said, I bought a bulk spool of Flea Flicker and have never had a problem on riggers rods since. U can usually get a bulk spool for under $50.00, I think I paid 39.99 at D&R sports when i got mine. I keep 6 spare reels loaded just for the time the fleas show up. Not too many problems this summer but they have shown up at times. Good luck.

Sorry about the job Dave but u will land on your feet. If u need a boat ride get in touch with me by PM will be fishing most Sundays when weather permits until time to pull the boat out. SUPERTRAMP replied to Dave Mull's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Thanks for the report Dave, Water has cooled some since last week and the MC2 will be fishing again this weekend weather permitting. -
There is a syringe u can use to deflate the swim bladder and keep the fish alive. I guess its just the fact that I really hate to see a native Michigan fish disrespected by fish snobs.

Welcome to GLF Dave, look forward to seeing your posts.

Paul: The fish have been really tight lipped the past couple of weeks, but it looks like there should be some movement up in the water column, the cook plant buoy is showing 54 degree water at 50' down, We caught fish Sunday above 100' 89' rigger, 96' rigger, dipsey set on 1 out 239, and 300 cu with a 3oz dive bomb half way out on the cu. All kings and all full of alewives. See you Sunday and Monday weather perimitting. -

Check with the guys in Holland Saugatuck area the WMFL is in that neighborhood. I believe that Some one there can give u info. -
Yeah I know what u mean why take them out of the water if u dont want them, the law states that u can posess 5, but not posessing them is no excuse for gluttony. Wish someone would have the stones to call them on their actions when they are committing crimes, and that what it is a bonafide statute crime, and the people he gave them to might have committed a crime by possesing the gamefish without a license. We have game laws to ensure we have a fishery in the future. Michigan should enact wanton waste laws like Alaska and put some teeth in the laws we have.

This past week I saw 4 Lake Trout floating belly up out of St Joe, It was befor the Tournament, on Thursday and Friday, all were legal fish, and the snobbery of people releasing these fish without reviving them distrubs me. If u dont want to catch Lake Trout, Then dont fish the bottom, dont run flashers and flys, dont run meat, if u do catch one revive it befor u just toss it back to die. The Trout have saved many a day for me, and even I don't target them as a rule, I would not release one with out attempting to revive it, and if it wouldnt revive I would put it in the box. Lets be more conservation minded than just throwing them away. Trout are not scrap fish they are a game fish, and are a valuable resource for the sport fishing community.

SUPERTRAMP posted a topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Saturday was tough for us could only manage 1 small King, tournament boats had our spot covered up. Sunday was a different matter. We set down south in about 100 FOW and started a North troll. UV spinnies with meat on the riggers down 89 and 99, 300 copper with 4oz dive bomb with standard size stinger yellow killer and mag modified blue dolphin. Wire dipseys out 259 and 289 with same meat rig spinnie combo, first fish came on rigger at 89 dn, and the action was steady for about an hour and we had 5 in the box all Kings. We turned and went back south and no hits till we turned around at 110, got back to 120 and the copper with the the yellow killer fired another King. That ended the morning, pulled lines at 10:30 and headed in. The fish are stacked up in the 110 to 130 range and it appears they are moving up in the water column. Temp break has moved up about 10 feet and the fish are following. All of the fish were full of alewives. 2 were 3 year old females full of spawn and the others were 5 to 7# 2 year olds. -

Temp at 90 down is 63 degree, we didn't fish the afternoon bite as we had planned, will be on the lake at 6:30 Saturday morning gonna try the same pattern and go deeper, will have a full boat so we will be able to run a bigger spread. Tournament down here this weekend so we plan on staying out of the mess. If u r fishing the tournament and we can help you out call my cell, 269 9294221 will give you what we can. Chris we were running 8" spinnies with meathead and DW meatrigs, Colors that worked UV glow spinnies and wonderbread spinnie with uv DW uv meat rig and meat head green splatter, meathead black on glow splatter and green glow rigs were all good. -
My Bad I knew that Slickcraft was bought by AMF, too bad they were working mans boat, well built and not too expensive. I misunderstood the Chris and Tiara connection.

Finally getting to fish The Joe for an extended period, Thursday was the worst day I have had in a long time. Fished the morning and went 0 for 2, first time that the skunk stayed on the MC2. Friday was a different story. Went 5 for 7 running meat rigs and clean spoons. 110 FOW where we started, 2 riggers at 116 and 126 with Meat rigs, 2 wire dipsy's on 1 1/2 left side out 287 and rt side out 305 both with meat rigs. 2 300 copper with 3 oz dive bomb 1/2 way out on the copper, Modified carmel dolphin stinger on 1 and a carmel dolphin FB spoon on the other. Just a 6 rod spread with 2 on the boat. 3 Lake Trout, and 1 King about 8 lbs and a fat Coho. Speed was 2.2 knots on the GPS and 1.9 mph in the water. Going to fish the evening bite too will report later.

If the transom and stringers are sound, the catalina's are a really fine boat for all around water use. They can be used as a fishing boat too. The Chris Craft family of boats are top drawer boats that used to be built in Holland Michigan. The Chris family still build boats under the Tiara banner if I am not mistaken.
