For the next few weeks, there is no bad wind direction. The salmon that are staging for the run don't care much about the water temp. I have pounded them, in the past, in 50 FOW 25' down with surface temps in the low 70's. The fish hit in the rain too. You just need to figure out what colors to run in those conditions. My advise would be to stay away from the pack and to fish as many weekdays as possible.

It was up to 63 today. Looks like I might be fishing it. I will find out for sure tomorrow.

Doesn't look like like a 79 footer (79') . Looks more like a 1979 ('79). Great looking rig you got there. The hard tops sure are handy.

As far as the whole verses the strips, I always like the strips better. They fit perfect into the heads for me. The whole ones are a bit of a pain to work into the head. I don't see a problem with running your dipsey lower than your DR. I think the mono dipsies will dive a little farther than that. I had problems getting them to achieve that depth on a higher setting. The few time that I still use a mono dipsey, I don't run it back more than 125'.

I don't put a whole lot of stock in what I'm marking. If I consistently mark fish at certain depths, I will make the depth changes with the riggers first. If that was to work, I would then adjust the rest of the spread. I'm more likely to" put all of my eggs in one basket" with lure color selection rather than the depth selection. I've caught many more fish that I had never mark verses fish that I had marked. Like 1 mainiac said, it's better to target active fish rather than pursuing the the inactive ones. Starting out with covering a large range of the water column and making adjustment from there will put more fish in the box.JMO

Great story and trip. I have rule (superstition) that I go by. It comes from my days when I played golf. If I found a golf ball, I wouldn't play it at that coarse. I figured it was meant to be lost or had bad karma there. The same goes for any fishing equipment I have found. I won't fish it out of that port. Nice job on the 20+'s.

This could cause more problems than it solves. Example: If you tripped a dipsy to make more room and then hit a double on another rod. Now you would have a dipsy on the surface and straight out the back. I'm not sure what you are running now in regards to dipsys. I would either set my dipseys on a higher setting and/or add a cheater(monster) ring. Changing from a 8.6' rod to a 10' would help. Slowing the boat down to net can give the fish more freedom to make runs to the sides. If reeling in a fish from a rigger, bring up that DR to get it out of the way. If you run your DR at a 45 angle, move them to a 90. You can move one of the DR rods to the empty rod holder to create more room. Let the boards out a little farther. The driver should try to keep the boat positioned so that the fish is always centered to the back of the boat. That is one of the reasons it pays to fish away from the pack. Bottom line is to have or create as much room as possible to bring a fish in. The only rod that I will ever pull is a rod running down the chute.

Thanks again for the invite. It was a blast as always. Just need to meet the last goal of the season now... a 20+#'er:D Tried to offer up taking my 90 or 120 Qt. I think he likes seeing the tails hanging out of the cooler.

Nope...South of Douglas. The wind surfers still had a fun ride out there.

Just went by the lake...I thought it would be worse. It's only 3-4's with no white caps.

When you own your own boat, comparing a charter trip to a temp prob is like comparing apples to oranges. Taking the trip would be a good opportunity to learn something new. However, you I could easily see where you would gain more more out of the FH. What was the other prize that you won?

Started fishing @ 7:15 tonight. Found the perch right away in 52 FOW in front of Deer Lick. At 8 O'clock we received a call that some storms with possible water spouts are heading our way. We pulled lines with 8 7-10" perch. Once again, it's better to play it safe.

Another way to tie them...Use 50# PP or Dacron and have the hook 2-3 in inches behind the plug. This helps with the one the short hit it and can put the hook farther back in it's mouth.

Nice job! It's always good to get some one out that has never been or hasn't be in a couple of decades. Nothing wrong with picking up some free tackle.
