If you have to have 15 the sharks are nice if you can go with 13s atomic is making one that looks like it would work well. atomics you can get two for the price of one shark.

Well boaters world is all done. The economy has forced them to close shop. Man that sucks, i really like shopping there. Here is the website: http://www.mlive.com/business/west-michigan/index.ssf/2009/03/ritz_cameras_bankruptcy_capsiz.html

It wasnt a bad show this year and as far as prices take a ride to the tackle shop and take a look at prices this year. It is amazing how much stuff went up over the last year. There were some good deals if you were in the market for certain items. i did pick up some of the aces high j's to try out this year. only a buck off but better the full price. Nobody is giving deals like they used to with the shape the economy is in. Did see a lot of old friends and made some new ones. Thanks to the guys on here that stopped by the MUCC booth and chatted for a while. It felt like the crowd was down from last year. we were hoping they would have attendance numbers out sunday but they didn't. Anyways another year of shows is done, now it is time to start getting the baot ready to go in to the water.

I sure do: http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/ttw.htm i wish someone in michigan carried them i hate paying for shipping with the traveling i do around the state
-
Yes the pancake have a "little" less blow back but the currents can play hell on the pancakes, and you can get some interesting tangles. I tried them when i got my new boat 8 years ago, they sat in the garage for 7 1/2 yrs and sold them on craigs list a few weeks ago. i hated them with a passion. My dad always used round balls or finned balls. i went with sharks a much better design and also take a look at the atomic torpedos they look even nicer. they are 13 lb where my sharks are 10 lb. you can get two of the atomic for around 80 bucks plus shipping. i've been eyeing them but the wife says i spent enough on tackle for this year.

Best Knot for retying salmon flys?

I just want to gripe a second about that video. That was not developed by the guy named and him taking credit is wrong. It is called and egg loop or a west coast bumper hitch. It is used in steelhead fishing to attach egg yarn or a piece of skein roe to the hook without burying the hook and incorporating a corky to add color and float off the bottom. It has been used on the west cost for thirty years at least as that is about when i learned to tie it from Tom Schneider nicknamed Corky Man from the detroit area. That knot works best with an upbend eye hook like a 37160 mustad. I was tying that knot when they still had the fishing show at the Silver dome. OK off my soap box now. Just a note i would use a regular snell over this one for trolling. -
Is this like what you are using: http://www.lotsa.org/Wire%20Line%20Knot.htm I might try this one out it is different than the one i was originally shown.

i try and snell the hooks but if in a tourney i use a palormor. quick and strong. -
Thats wht i didn't like them Jim. I love my sharks. I have 10 lb. i also had finned 10s and there is less blowback with the sharks over the round finned. Now i want to try this deep water program i have been hearing and reading so much aboput but i nee more weight to get deeper. I have walker tourney series which are rated up to 15 lb. I was figuring if i could get a torpedo type at that weight i may swing away from sharks. But with the lloking i have been doing i am thinking i am going to have to order to 15s 69.99 each plus shipping. I saw atomic is making a 13 but i want it as heavy as i can go.

I had them before and didnt like em. I love my sharks. I was just not wanting to spend almost a hundred bucks a piece with shipping to get them. I know atomic is making a 13 lb torpedo but again know one carrys them.

I am currently runnnig 10 lb sharks on my boat. I am looking for 15lb, sharks torpedo, or, fish type weights, that i can pick up somewhere in state and not have to pay for shipping. Prefferably on the southwest side as i travel all over this area. Has anyone seen a tackle shop with something similar to what i want. I dont want any form of pancake.

what knot are you using to connect your wire to the swivel(diver end)
-
What i do for my backer under my wire is tie an albright knot from the backer to the wire. the wire gets shaped in a U and the mono or dacron is wrapped around it. Do a search in yahoo on animated albright knot and it is pretty easy to follow the steps. For my connection to the swivel for the diver i use a crimp. I know some people that tie the different wire knots, but i have not had much luck with them.

Go with the offshore orange SST boards. These boards are designed to pull the heavier weights of lines that we are now using. Do like maniac said put a little screw eye low int he back of the board (there is a starter hole there) to put an OR-16 off shore release on to peg the line so you can fight the fish without the board on the line. Make sure when you attach the board to the lone that the lie is behind the peg in the release. Also get rid of the release whether it be the off shore or the church they both suck for heavy line and get the big jon otter release. i can pull a 450 and 600 copper on these and they only release when a fish hits. attach it with a good quality split ring. I have four sets of the church boards as that is what everyone kind of started with and hardly ever use them any more after trying out the SST boards. They are a litttle more out of pocket but they are worht it the way they get the lines out to the side of the boat. They do track better than the church boards.

Ryan, The best reel for a 150' of copper is an okuma 45. You can get 300 yds of 50 lb power pro backing and the 150 of copper on the reel no problem. The 300' an okuma 55 series and you can get 300 pp 50lb backing take a look at this thread to see how i was telling you to set the copper to the swivel connection up. http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12547 When i set up my copper i run backing 50 lb power pro, then 50 ft of 30 lb mono for my board connection, then the length of copper, and finally 30 ft of 20 lb gamma fluorocarbon leader. If you dont use mono for your board connection the board tends to walk down the super braid and it cuts in to the release. the release i was telling you about at bass pro id the big jon otter relase. Also if you use mono as a backer although cheaper you wont get nearly as much on the real for backer. Also the mono will show signs of wear so you can cut it back and retie it. the super braids tend to break before you see any signs of wear. Wire divers i am using the okuma 45 line counters with 1000ft of 30 lb wire. I back it either with 30 lb test mono. or just braided dacron 30lb test.

Traverse City Steelhead ?
Line Dancin replied to Line Dancin's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Thanks for the info everyone. I ended up with a bad head cold so that put a damper on the whole weekend. There was also an ice storm up there and that made walking along the river real fun. I ended up going out for about an hour sunday by the baot launch and had no hits. I tried spawn, and wax worms. Talked to another guy and he said it was really slow over the couple days prior. Oh well at least i got out and wet a line for a little while. -
Just bought two of the heavy duty diver rod holders. Best price i could find and great service. Met him in cadillac and picked them up. Thanks again tony for a great price.

"3 times the flasher length and it works for me" Like Mainiac i run the length 3 times the flasher size. This was the adage used back in the old days when fishing with a dodger and squid started. It worked for my dad on his boat and now on mine, so i guess, if it aint broke don't fix it, comes in. As far as line on flise i just use mono 50 lb ande. On evetyrhing else Gama Flourocarbon

I have all my gear spead throughout the basement right now, almost all organized. This weekend i have to pull the pump motor for my trim tabs and send it in to have the housing replaced. It cracked at the end of last season and the oil bottle is held up with a zip tie right now. So they are going to replase the housing clean it test it, and make any adjustments. alli need right now is the four new tekotas and i will be ready. Oh and i need to get rid of the pile of snow in front of it so i can pull it out. Man this has been a long winter.
