i have a galaxy 5225 antenna that i put on my boat last year. i was also using an inexpensive raymarine radio. i could recieve wellbut not transmit. this year i bought a better radio, Oceanus, and still seem to be havint the same issue. i could hear plum crazt down by saugatuck while in the holland area and also nick of time but when i tried to get them i couldnt get to them. could it be my antenna connection at the radio not installed right?? I couldtalk to people in the local vicinity, just not any distance.

I do have some harnesses and weights, and am going back to gander tomorrow when my two year old has had a nap already. today was an ugly seen with him in that store LOL. He did not want to shop today. Another question. Someone mentioned earlier about using straight mono. What is the general concensus on this mono or flourocarbon. i have both but want to use what is going to work better.

nice job guys. what water did you work? -
do you use a snubber with the mini discs at all or just tie direct.
-
Thing is is that when boaters world was closing the last day they were open they gave me all the mini discs for a quarter a piece and i have like 20 of them. I also bought out all their walleye spoons, a whole grocery bag of dws, silver streaks, yeck spoons, at 10 cents a piece. I know a lot of guys are using jets, maybe next year i'll get some of those.

I am heading to lake erie for the first time in 20 years june 3-6th. Staying at brest bay marina. I have been listening to several captains at the shows this year for walleye. Most boast the mini big jon divers with spoons now. When i last went it was all hot n tots. What is the length of the leader between the diver and the spoon, and what pound test, i have some 12 pound flouro, you guys use. Also i am using my inlines that i use for salmon fishing. are the tattle flags worth messing with when puliing the mini divers. I have the wire and bet some up and boght some springs to make them, but are they worth using.

Well finally got the first trip in of the seaon for fishing. We got out late and got lines set and 7 and pulled lines at 9:45. We ended up with 11 mixed cohos and small kings. one king was just under 9 pounds. Lost 6 all long line releases, threw back i think it was 8 shakers. one of the shakers the spoon was alomost the same size as the fish. All 8 swam away happily. Best water was 110 to 125 on both a south and north troll andywhere from 45 ft down to 80 ft. most fish came on a pro king green glow set at 65 ft. also the coppers 300 ft with moonshine sarge and dw mongolian beef took a lot of fish. Dipsies had two fish with a white sd and lil boy blue and a green sd and green sparkle fly. set 175 and 225 back. had one or two come on a green dolphin and lemon ice. and two on a half moon flouner pounder with a dark blue on the sides no idea of the name of it. three doubles and landed all three. i think we had 15 minutes without a fish in the time we were out. My new Lowrance FF hds 5 is absoultly the best thing in the world. I am impressed with it. we found two huge schools of bait from 60 ft to 110 ft marked them on the gps and just kept working the two schools. picked up two to three fish everytime we went over the way points and marked the schools.

i now have 4 15's for deeper fishing. -
i run two 8'6 okuma blue diamonds and two 10 ft blue diamonds. with no problem with allmag divers. the convector rods are supposed to be almost the same as the shimanos but without the swivel tip, and the price. I just recently replaced the tips with these. https://www.torpedodivers.com/scart/product_details.asp?ItemNum=H0010 they are a swivel tip made exclusively for smaller diameter wire, with a guide ring built in to make sure that the wire doesnt jump the roller and get pinched. these are twenty bucks a piece unlike the aftcos. at 60 to 90 bucks

Just question, why not go to 45 lb and get deeper faster with less line out? then add a torpedo dive or a sting ray to get you a little deeper if you need to get deeper. if you do that you can get 300 yds 50 lb pp and 150 ft of 45 lb copper getting you to about 40 45 feet down (depending on the speed you troll. here is a chart from diver dennis: http://www.glangler.com/dc/user_files/6101.jpg 300 ft of 30 lb gets you to 55.6 ft 150 feet of 45 gets you to 49.5 and your not killing yourself toreel it in.personally i dont think five feet is worth the extra work. you could also add another 30 feet on 45 copper and strip about 30 yds pp and get you to the same depth if you are concerned with matching that profile.

i had a very similar problemchased all the same items. In the end took it to johhnsons supreme in ludington. Found out it was the distributor assembly. to upgrade from point to electir was only 60 bucks more. did it and no more problems and no more screwing with points. Ths vent plugged and rusted the whole assembly all to heck causing mass problems.

lowrance hd connection to vhf radio
Line Dancin replied to Line Dancin's topic in Marine Electronics
ya i have that but it just isnt real clear as to which is the gps data out. -
I have a hds5 unit and am getting a uniden oceanus radio. the uniden book clearly shows which wires are for the gps connection but the lowrance doesn't. which two wires do i use on the hds 5 to connect to the two on the radio.

i third the sampos. went to using the ones dreamweaverand silver streak are selling. sampo barrel swivel with a heavy duty snap. you cant straighten these unless your borther forgets to close them.(just giving him a hard time fromlast season)

I have my new hds 5 on the boat. It didn't come with the wheel for water speed and i was told lowrance is discontinuing it. Is it necessary? do you use it much? or do you guys usually just use the GPS speed? which is better to use?

For 58 dollars, i did it. thanks for the link. one tow a few years ago on lake eire was enough for me. I had 500 towing and still had to put out a couple hundred to get towed in after being reimbersed from the insurance 7 weeks later. edit i honestly never looked into just having the towing. i know when i did get towed they mentioned it but just kind of let it slip. i dont think i will be without it again for that price and having no hassles if something does go wrong.

I see some manufactures make (eg seagur) flourocarbon line 200 yds spools and than they also make flourocarbon leader 25 yards. the line is like 20 bucks to 24 bucks depending on which flourocarbon a spool and the leader is like 13 bucks. what is the real difference between leader and line material? is it signifacant enough to have to use leader material or just a good lin like the abrazX. When i started using flourocarbon i used Gamma as that was the market practice in the places i shopped but with gamm allbut gone now i am considering what to use next.

Well got the down riggers and rod holders on today and decided to go for a ride. I really wanted to test out the HDS-5 i put on monday. Also was my almost 2 year olds first real boat ride. I'll start with Him. He loved it most of all going at a pretty good clip into the waves. all I heard was "WEEE WEEEE MORE MORE". when i slowed down in 70 ft of water he was saying "GO GO GO". Now the fish finder.. simply awesome. I could actuall make out fish on the bottom the color display really makes a difference. I had went to lance valentines seminar on beyond the basics and set it up like he said. Man what a nice unit. Also first trip since i hit something last year and everything is running fine. After we dropped the boat off at the storage lot all my son was saying was "boat boat more more" I think he is hooked on the boat. edit Didnt do any fishing just a family boat ride to check things out.
