  1. should be able to get any parts you need from richfield trailer, they carry pretty much everthing for suspension and braking systems on trailers. www.richfieldtrailer.com there is one in flint and one in grand rapids.
  2. nice job guys. i didn't get out. i fell into a mole hole in the yard friday morning and twisted something in my ankle really bad. i think i am going to the doc monday morning. i can walk for short distances but man it hurts. if i touch anything against my ankle i could jump outta my skin in pain. so this weekend i sat in my recliner with a bag of ice on my ankle hoping it would feel better.
  3. The stuff you heard about lowrance has been resolved. they were bought out a couple years ago and the old "crew" didn't want change. well change happened, it happens whenever there is a corporate take over, they (the problem matic people) are no longer there and cust service has been great. I have a hds 5 i put on my boat this sping, base map. had an issue. it was past the return time for cabelas. and they were backed up, spring time go figure. the new head of cust service contacted cabelas in dundee for me and got it set up to exchange it in the store so i wasn't without a unit, without me asking for anything special. The new one is the best thing i have ever used and wouldn't recommend anything else. i also upgraded to the lake insight for the better software. I have any other questions and they are there to help in anyway they possibly can. Also there was a thing going around that there was no customer support for the mapping software that was coming form the factory. that issue also resolved. when the takeover happened they were in the middle of relicensing which happens with software. and it took a month or so. i had questioned that before buying mine and there were people that just couldn't understand the when a company is going through relicensing that they are not allowed to distribute a product with that software. anyways they were trying to explain it to customers and people just wouldn't listen and started yelling that there was no customer support for the software. I will tell you that the lowrance units can be a little more complicated to use as there are more bells and whistles, but that also allows for more customization and manula control of the unit, giving a better picture of what is going on under the boat.
  4. modified off shores. i had the church boards and hated them. worked better as divers then boards no matter what you did with them in rough water. went to offshores and haven't had any problems.
  5. when we were on erie tha last month we were having a problem at first using just gps speed which is what i was to to use by a couple guys when we first got down there. I was setting my speed at 2.5 to 3 like they said. all we were getting was silver bass and sheepshead. Decided to put the probe in just to see. my down speed was like 1.5 to 1.75. Jumped it up to 2.25 to 2.5 on the probe down 16 ft and bam we were in the walleyes. We used all spoons on mini discs. and everyone is right on the hot n tots. make sure u tune them.
  6. if you go to big jons web site click on specials, they have seconds for like 75 a piece. only thing wrong with them is the color isn't perfect all over the place. you might have a band of lighter orange running down one side. i just got a set from them a few weekes ago and had them in 2 days for like 160 with shipping included. here is the link: http://www.bigjon.com/pics/pics.asp
  7. It was just plain tough saturday and sunday. My favorite go tos weren't producing anything and we marked a ton of fish. I do like slammer spoons they have a great action the hooks are good right out of the package, unlike some other brands that i check every hook. the paint tape are durable when a big one hits. i just dont own that many right now and being laid off i have to watch what i am buying this year. otherwise i would have more on board. Tried to call you a couple times on the water jimmy. i think i am still having a issue with my radio. i was able to talk to a few guys closer than you were. i just dont seem to be getting out as far as i should.
  8. oh ok. i remember you sitting next to us. should have given me a holler on the radio. i am typically scanning or on 68. i do like the jp slammer spoons i have about six or eight and have caught fish on them in the past.
  9. Well i am going to combine trip and field testers report as fishing was really tough this weekend. Both days in Holland. Saturday. Started in 80 ft and ended in 190 ft. ran two JP slammers Glow fire dog on 300 copper and nbk slammer on a 175 copper. i basically left them there most of the day. I did rotate which spoon was on which copper once. and then tried them both on riggers for an hour. the only fish of the day came on a 175 copper right off the back on a wonder bread aces high 14.5 lb king. Sunday. Started in 60 ft and stayed there for a while before moving out to 120 and back in again. tried the two spoons on a 75 ft copper nbk and 150 copper gfd. switched them up a couple times trying to make something go on them. also tried them on the riggers again. took two right off the back on a shelly snack moonshine 75 copper and a wonderbread aces high 150 copper in 55 ft of water. nice sized fish one at 12(moonshine) and one at 16 pounds(jplug). I also basically threw the tackle boxes into the water trying to put fish on. tried different depths speeds but just couldn't get anything to go. I didn't hear much on the radio about anyone doing that well out there. Guess i should have stayed in monroe for one more weekend of walleyes.
  10. I agree with this...
  11. Way cool i cant wait till my son is old enough to go out anc reel in a salmon.
  12. i take it you have those rods already? i use a mix of talora 9 ft and okuma copper rods. the okumas are like 35 bucks and handle copper and boards great. I think they are an 8'6. they had a little problem when they first came out with tip breakage but that has been fixed. they have all stainless guides and the big knots flow through with no problem, no hang ups while reeling the in.
  13. Couldn't agree with this more.... braids don't show wear like mono does, and when the braid does get worn youl'll be trolling along then all of a sudden you are a board short. the mono you can see and feel the line getting worn and can remedy the problem by cutting and retying and not lose expensive gear. I usually use a twenty foot piece that way i just have to cut out the bad piece near my backer and only retie one knot instead of having to retie two when you do have to cut back. also i believe in a drop of fishing glue just to make sure it (the knot) holds together well. i also use an or-16 on the rear of the board. but i use the big jon barrel release in the front. edit: coming into j plug season, i LOVE running a green with black ladder back on my 300 coppers. Aces HI. it is a deadly combo.
  14. 24 inches here to a treble hook and a couple beads between the hook and spin n glo. we pull them with cowbells most of the time for lakers
  15. Yeah quite a bit actually. i have a friend that lives over in scottsville, and another in kibby creek camp ground. We used to fish that port exclusively when i was a kid. we will be up there a few times this year. i also have Johnsons in town do all my boat work.
  16. white mag spin doctor w the uv lazer tape not the crush type and a lil boy blue fly. green s d with a green fly blue s d with a blue fly and i'll third the spoons maybe add a green glow pro king.
  17. My dad brother and i fished both saturday and sunday. Saturday morning went out to the border waters and went out past sputnik half way to the island and back the morning was slow we got 4 and decided with the wind and waves we were gogint o call it at about 10:30 got to the gas dock and filled up and took it easy till evening. wenat back out and picked up 9 in a matter of 3 hours off fermi in 25 ft of water. saturday ended with 13 fish. sunday went back to the fermi are and fished for three hours and picked up another 10 fish. All came 90 to 110 back on mini discs and spoons with purple or pink on them. We should have went back out to the border water area as the fishing picked up sunday and they got some very nice sized fish out there sunday. I had the boat set up with my new big jon planer reels and otter boats. first time using them and i loved using them for fishing walleye. I orderd Laurvrik releases right from the company to get a deal on releases. they sell a box of 50 for 65 buck with shipping included and i think for next year i am going to get another 50 as we had to pull the boards in to get releases because of all the silver bass and sheepheads. Well walleye fishing is done for the season for me and now i have the boat changed back over for the big lake again.
  18. thanks for the report i am down here now with the boat in the slip. Heading out tomorrow morning, and it sounds like we are heading to the same area you were fishing

  20. Its time they just poison the whole Freakin river and be done with it.
  21. I think the walkers dig a little harder just by the angles on my rods. and have hit bottom when a dipsy wouldnt with the same line out. edit i like the walkers better and actually just gave my two last mag dipsies away. they appear to be better made and the bottom has a pin in it so that when the screw is tight there is no way that the bottom disc can turn.
  22. i'm layed off so i can meet you anytime. just let me know.
  23. I'd test either we are going to monroe this coming weekend 6-25/27, but after that back to fishing holland for the rest of the season. edit: whos flies are they what company i could jsut do flies if you have enough for spoons
