  1. DUHHH! My best friends dad has had his boat there since i was 8 years old. I completely forgot about starport having the camping there. He has a 25' cherokee named connie j. It is a decent marina. they are supposed to be redoing it from what Dave was telling me. Basically right across the road there is Buttersville beach and campground. Paulywood when did you have your boat there?
  2. Who is making up this crap.
  3. That editorial was utter garbage!!!!
  4. There are a bunch of good campgrounds around ludington and nice places to dock but they are not together. We used to dock and tamarack in town and the stay at kibby creek between ludington and pentwater. we had a permanant site there for about 20 years. It is about a 15 minute ride to the boat from the campgrounds. they have a fish cleaning station there with freezers to use for your fish till you leave. If you decide to have a permanant spot there they also have a small shed that you could put your own small freezer in if you wanted to. It is a very nice and clean campgrounds. it has been owned by the same family for as long as i can remember. nice thing about tamarack also is you dont have to go through town to get there. you can turn off before getting to town and take tha back way around and avoid traffic in town. The only reason we are not out of ludington as much now is because i live so close to holland now. Fishing is better up there and i still go up there to fish just not as much as when my dad had his boat docked there. The other nice thing about being in that are is if you get a strong blow and the fish go south you only have a few mile run down to pentwater. otherwise you are fishing the point all the time. As for when the fishing starts we used to go up the weekend before easter to get the boat out of winter storage at Johnsons, and i used to fish browns off the rocks by city municiple marina and just kill the browns there while my dad worked on getting the boat ready to go into the water. There was always small boats in there after browns. The other nice thing about ludington is having Johnsons Supremem Marine to deal with. They are great and reasonable. I have all my work done there. My dad used them from when i was a kid. THey will go out to your boat at the marina to do any work you need done. Also i have never had a problem with any work that they have done for my family and friends up there. As a matter of fact of the guys i know up there Johnsons is who everyone goes to.
  5. I always start with a few colors mainly lil boy blue on a large white slick spin doctor. m best combo. then i have a few blues and greens and pearls that i use. if they do produce then i try different stuff out. Purple and white some days on a whit spinny is deadly when nothing else works. I have a opper colored one that works some days. kind of depends on the fish though. I do have a bunch of different colors.
  6. Are you stuck on manistee or have you considered ludington at all.
  7. Trust me i know that feeling. I have a two and a half year old and it makes it tough some times.
  8. Problem is by the time a way in is done fish cleaned and drive home and put the boat up it will be at the earliest two in the morning and wreck sundays fishing. i dont mind fishing evenings during the week after work but the weekends i prefer the mornings as i can spend the rest of the day with my family. We are usually home after morning fishing by 1 or 2 and my wife is happy that way.
  9. My dad had one of those smokers. Get a army surplus wool blanket from sportsmans guide for like 20 bucks and cover the smoker it is all you need. as for the chips use the luhr jensen kind of shredded for the best results in that smoker and do not soak them. the heat element gets hot but not that hot. if it was windy we used it on one side or the other of the garage to act as a wind break
  10. Lake Ontario United message board.
  11. OK i understand why you are doing it that way. sounds like there is a sound theory to it.
  12. We go out to reeds lake and get some nice sized pike on tip ups. We usually get a bunch of hammer handles but have fun, and get a few keepers. I have seen fome 35 - 40" fish come out of that lake. We also fish Put on a big shiner and let it down anout thrre feet above the weeds makes for some great pike fishing. We do more up north on a few lakes around charlevoix, cadillac and houghton/higgins lakes. Best place around here to get good sized and livley shiners is al and bobs and they are pricey there, and sometimes small for my liking. i can usually get better shiners when i am fishing up north cheaper. I want to try gun lake this year, never really fished it. I have also heard muskegon gets some big pike and want to try there.
  13. i may be interested. We are an amateur team near Holland Michigan
  14. Ken is correct on this one.
  15. To be honest there is one give back i would like to see. As you learn from others and become a more experienced fisherman(i'm talking a few years down the road), when new people come into this sport and ask the questions you are now asking jump in and help them out as much as possible. Dont get that well its been asked a hundred times before attitude because there is always someone that needs some help. As long as you pass it along like the old timers did for me that are now gone then i have no problem answering the same question a hundred times over. I am just passing knowledge i got from someone else that was kind enough to teach me. And i wish some of those old guys were still around to see how far i have come.
  16. Mike something to keep in mind are the weekends of the three big shows. I know some people like to go to them on the saturdays of the shows espically if they are on the opposite end of the state. the three weekends are: Ultimate Fishing show Detroit- Jan 13-16 Outdoorama Feb 24-27 Ultimate Sport Show Grand Rapids
  17. Congrats Matt. I mated for my high school years and a few years after. Just don't make the mistake of it becoming just another job and spoiling fishing for you. Not saying it will happen but i saw it with some friends of mine. Learn all you can from your Captain. Watch, listen, and ask questions.
  18. I agree with Kyle on the OR-16 Release. You will not lose your torpedo as long as you set it right. Get the line behind that pin ever time and there is no way to loose it. I also use OR-16s on my planer boards.
  19. Thats why i hardly ever use that other site you are talking about. People are friendly here and out to help one another become better fisherman. Thats what this game is all about. I had a arguement on that other site once and have hardly ever been back. The only way to learn is to ask and we are all learning all the time. even those of us who have been at this game for over thirty years. Nobody knows everything, even though a few at that other site seem to think they do, oh and they will tell you that they know it all or that there way is the only way.
  20. Good luck with it ken i am sure you will have fun running it. I do have a couple points for consideration for you: If it was purley out of holland i may fish a few. June of course i am on erie though. I will NOT go out of port sheldon again. It is plain getting to shallow and is going to get worse. I talked to the manager of Holland state park and the Army Corp has no intention of ever dredging that port again as it is not being used by the shipping industry. They say that it is the states responsibility now as dredging is just helping the states boat launch. IF it is going to be done it is going to be done at the state level and when she proposed this in lansing was shut down and told that there was no plan to ever do it on state funds alone. There is no money for dredging available. All that is going to happen is that port is going to fill shut for guys that have a boat that has a deeper draft like mine. I do like going to port sheldon as it is closer to the house, but as Phil on Plum Crazy and i were talking earlier this year i dont have to buy garbage bags and deel with fish guts at home. So because of these two points holland is my new permanant port. I also like the nine rod limit better than 8 but it is still better than a 6 rod limit. I am out there to kill fish whether i fish an event or not. With fuel prices i want to get as many fish as quick as i can. That is why i didnt fish the events before i want the max number of rods in the water for the crew aboard and i dont go out with no less than three, and i can see a 3 man rod limit.
  21. typically i use wire and lead balls for lakers. I use either a 1 or 1.5 lb ball. typically we will one one in each low diver position and one down the chute. Like Ed said when you get a fish on just move the shoot rod over to one corner to clear it out of the way for landing a fish. i usually move it to a corner rigger holder till the fish is landed. This is a deadly way to kill lakers. never tried it suspended for kings as dipsies work so well for king fishing.
