  1. Beat me to the puch on posting that link.
  2. ball babies. they work great. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Boating/Trolling-Gear/Downrigger-Weights%7C/pc/104794380/c/104784480/sc/104305680/Ball-Babies/700358.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fboating-trolling-gear-downrigger-weights%2F_%2FN-1100553&WTz_l=Unknown%3Bcat104305680
  3. I have a moore and you can take the prob off they sell a terminator all set up to do just that and it works fine down to 130. deepest i have had it so far. My dad had a fish hawk and we plated with transducers because of feed back from the fish hawk. Dad had to spend over 300 bucks for a good through hull before we got rid of the noise. That is why i went with the moore. I didn't want to spen 400 bucks on a unit that could cause problems and have to play games instead of fishing. They claimto have made the problem almost non existant. Almost just isn't good enough for me with all the crap i, not my dad of course, had to do as a kid to make that thing work. if you scroll down almost to the bottom of the page there is a pic of the klincher to remove the prob. http://www.esgdirect.com/trolling.html
  4. What did you use for tethers and how did you set them up?
  5. Tony i am using four of them now and will NEVER pay three times as much for an aftco tip again after last season. When i got my blue diamonds after one season i put on two aftcos same as the shimano rods. still had wire getting caught in the tip. Went to the torpedo tips and that little guide in there will not allow the wire to do that. I have installed the tip on 12 rods four on one boat and two on two other boats. all agree with me on the torpedo tip. I just hope they hold up well. i am not sure who is building them for Torpedo divers i traied asking Matt at the fishing show last year and all he said is not aftco but another reputable company.
  6. I visit the lake ontario board as well as this one and posted the same question there. Some of the guys have a few ideas on there that i want to share with other guys here that are considering doing this also. the link is: http://www.lakeontariounited.com/fishing/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=23309 I think i am going to go with the traxtech keeper caps that the one guy posted but am also still looking for any ideas.
  7. When i had the diver rod go slack was with a 124 walker took a wave wrong and it kind of spun us. My dad was at the wheel and knows how to drive a boat been doing it since the 70s, but it happened so fast that there was no time to react. when it happened is when that rod went slack enough to slip in the holder rubber caps are always in place also. I have tried a few different rod holders most of which had the rod pretty flat out to the side. But when running mags it was just a matter of time before they failed. Went to the big jon hd diver holders heavy duty is an understatement. But they have less adjustment because of the larger pins in them. I also looked at a couple other heavy duty holder and they were pretty much the same way. In over 30 years on the water i to have also lost only one rod when a friend of mine completely missed the rod holder and dropped the rod over the side. But with these new holder i just worry about a rod slipping if that ever happens again, and at almost 400 bucks for rod reel line and lures i am a little paranoid this year.
  8. Bought some this year to try out all i have heard is good things about them.
  9. Thats not what i am worried about really. I have those holders. I was listening last year when two different boats out of holland were complaing that a rod blew in the holder and it was enough of a jump that they bases slid out and not only lost the rod but the reels also. There was also a post from someone on here that had that happen with a couple new rod they bought and okuma set em up with new reels to replace the lost gear.
  10. I almost had this happen last season. i grabbed the rod as i was standing next to it when it happened. I watched it slide half way out of the holder. I have the new big jon diver holders that i put on last spring and they point down towards the water a little to much or they are up in the air to much.
  11. How many guys tether their diver rods so if they do break you dont loose the reel. i put four tekotas on my boat for my wire last year and would hate to loose one if a rod does break. Also if you do tether them how are you setting it up so i can duplicate it if i do decide to tether my rods.
  12. I had one get lost (ranger) by someone holding just the rubber handle and it slid out if it. I now Gorilla glue all the rubber handles on. I keep two standing at the ready. i've had too many times that one is tangled with a fish with another fish waiting to come in. I dont keep a third but have a couple extras at home. Ranger is all made on John R in Detroit.
  13. i agree with what you are saying here. The wire doesn't damage the inner flows? I like the concept of the rods just never see them anywhere.
  14. Knock on wood. i have four blue diamond rollers. Had them for years and use and abuse them. no real clue how long now 6 or 7 years. no breakage problems here and i like the rods. I did put the torpedo roller tip tops on them last season and like that tip top even better than the aftco that shimano is using. here is a link to the tip top: https://www.torpedodivers.com/scart/product_details.asp?ItemNum=V0010 These are actually designed for the thin diameter of wire we use on the great lakes. The aftcos that a lot of companies are using are ocean tips. they work ok but are really designed for the thick wire that is used for salt water fishing. Just noticed Best copper rod for the money, i like the okuma 8'6 copper rods like 35 bucks each. I have 6 on board and two shimanos, and they work just as well as the shimanos.
  15. I now have three ranger salmon nets after winning one at a steelheaders meeting. The two that i bought were at bass pro down in indiana for like 45 - 55 bucks each. Cabelas down there had a crap selection and were twice as much as bass pro. they have the octagonal handle so when you extend it it goes right to the button and locks. The two i have used for five years and they are still in great shape. the new one i am saving just in case. I also have a couple cummings walleye nets and they have the round extending handles, a pain when you need to extend it fast to use it.
  16. WOW nice job!!! Nice looking fish.
  17. I agree with frank on this. I overfilled one on a utility trailer blew the seal and the ended up have to replace a spindle and bearings.
  18. Nice job. That looks like it was a heck of a job to do. I was supposed to go up saturday and get mine but talked to them today and with the ice and snow we had they are trying to chip the ice out of the doors to get them open. Of course the barn my boat is in is one of the worst he said as it faced into storm and has a ton of build up. hopefully he can have it out by next weekend for me, he was on the roof chipping ice off today. I'll post pics when i get her back of the work that was done. What color will it turn to once activated?
  19. Nice job!! still waiting to get my boat back right now hopefully next week.
  20. I have been ordering direct. They now off everything they make on their website not just corkies and spin n glos. You can download the entire catalog and figure out what colors you want before going to the order site which has very little info on it. If you order by tomorrow night they have free shipping on orders over 25 bucks right now. Prices on spin n glos and peanuts are in line with the bait shops. http://www.yakimabait.com/
  21. OK sounds good i am actually moving the boat over in mid may or early may i think. Will let you know.
  22. Never seen the garlic oil before. where would you find it? That may even work better then the jarred stuff. I thought of powder also but it really doesn't have much scent that why i was going to follow suit with the chopped garlic in the juice.
  23. No i didn't see it yet thanks for the info.
  24. Are you asking which to use? If so: My friend mark ran them last year. I have been trying to find the tuna with garlic and cant seem to find it anywhere. So i called him and asked him where he was getting it. What he bought was the cheap tuna in oil at walmart. Like 80 cents a can. He had heard from a charter that is using the tuna in olive oil with garlic. We cant seem to find it in the ludington (where he is from) or grand rapids area so he just added a teaspoon of jarred minced galic to it a couple days in advance of fishing with it. He seems to like running them in the middle of the day so i bought some to try this year and am going to follow suit with what he did.
