Michigan's Great Lakes offer 'the best shipwreck diving in the world'
Line Dancin replied to News's topic in Great Lakes News
I've been to some of the wrecks and they are incredible. If anyone has a chance to try scuda out you should. It is an awesome experience. -
Went out of Brest Bay to Fermi 19 to 24 ft of water. Pulling discs and spoons. Ended up with 7 one measuring about 7 1/2 pounds on my scale. the rest were 16-19 inch fish. Discs were back from 70 to 90 working close to the bottom the whole time. Sunday was a blow day and we didn't fish. We will be back on the water this weekend joined by Jimmy of Jimbobber for sat and sunday. Hopefully the fishing gets better. The lake is like trolling in a mud puddle right now.

i use a lot of differnet j's. Tiger plugs, Dreamweaver, Moonshine, J-plugs, and Aces High. I take fish on them all.

leadcore speed

I agree. 1.8 is to slow in my book. Only time i am going that slow is for lakers on the bottom. 2.5 is my most productive speed. -
cool pics ken, and a neat experience to see first hand.
-
VERY TRUE. i completely agree

I heard on erie last week a guy got a ticket for dirving the boat without a license while the others were fishing just as you are describing. Driving the boat while fishing is considered fishing also i guess.

What jimmy said. You'll learn your reels and the charts are just a starting point. there are many variables that change the depth that you are actually running and you will have to learn your gear.

Nice job Jimmy. Now we need to get over and slay some eyes in a couple weeks. -
It was touchy on the speed. we tried lure changes then speed changes. the speed changes seemed to get us into fish once we got slow enough.

So far on Erie

Linda at the marina ordered the motor and i had it in this last friday night. So the boat is working fine again. Thanks. -
I moved the boat over last week to erie on thursday. Friday i put it in and slipped it for the month at Brest Bay Marina. Went for a family ride on saturday and had to try and figure out my slow speed stalling problem. Talked to the volvo dealer and he walked me through getting my carb adjusted. I am not a mechanical person at all. Went to run out and my bow just would not come down. thought maybe i was low on fluid for my trim tabs. Got out there and started setting line. Once i got all the lines set i noticed my outdrive was about half was down. Tried to hit the down button and nothing. Tried up and up it went. could not for the life of me get it to go back down. Pulled line and tried hooking direct to the battery nothing. tried the switch one last time and got the outdrive down. My 3 year old decided that was enough so in we went. Got to the doack and nothing. Pulled the tilt motor and ran up to the marinas shop. they tested it and it was dead. Sunday afternoon the tornado sirens were blaring. All i could think of was here we go agian a repeat of last years trip when dundee got hit. Wife had to work monday so no walleye in the box. My son did catch a silver bass on a sponge bob fishing rod with a mini disc and spoon. He picked the disc and spoon. Moonshine yellow tail. I'm thinking someone doesn't want me fishing erie. This last weekend fishied with my dad and brother. saturday was rough water and slow fishing landed four in the bay area 75 back on mini discs and spoons purplr and greens. Sunday we went out to the border off the Raisen river markers. picked up 8 but had to work to get them 60-80 back on discs and spoons. Fished from 8 am to noon. Kind of got up late. 22 - 26 ft of water. All were from 20 to 24 inch fish and chunky fish. Hopefully i am still laid off next week. if so i am spending the whole week over there.

I am going to post my report later tonight. We were right there with you in that area. We got 5 on saturday and 8 on sunday. and had to work for them. It was rougher than snot saturday morning. some guys nailed them like you did. Good Job. I may be over there all next week unless i get back to work. I heard and ran into a guy that had 27 on reef runners 80 back in purple colors. Only guy at the fish cleaning station that had anything more than 5 or 6 fish while we were there.

way cool. Good job on all the hard work.

sharks all the way. i have 10 lb and 15 lb sharks. 10s for shallow and 15s for deep. I got mine before the price went nuts on them. less blow back with the sharks than the 12 lb finned i used to have. The only other weights i would consider now are the 15.5 torpedos from atomic flies, not the torpedo divers ones. atomic downrigger weights: http://www.atommiktrollingflies.com/ttw.htm edit i would buy them just because of a good price on them.

thanks steve. Thanks on the floating logs report also i dont need a repeat of two years ago.

no you will still need it to add some detail. There is a new Nautic Path chip out that is supposed to have incredible detail it is like 200 bucks at cabelas. I have that chip and the old nautic path chip. I like the lakemaster maps for lake michigan and the nautic path for erie. The nautic path shows the reefs and dikes better on erie as well as boundries.

I am bringing my boat over thursday morning. That doesn't sound to promising. I am slipping at brest bat marina.
