  1. I recieved the flies and they are very nice durable looking flies. I am impressed with the quality of them. I have had a lot of soak time on them and taken a few fish on them. Fly bite has been tough for me this year. The howies nightmare has done me right so far as well as one that didn't have a name on it. I guess it was like a prototype fly. Saturday i only took one fish on a flie and it was on a big green dw paddle and the howies nightmare. I think i may have found a new gp to flie and paddle combo. This one has done the best for me with the proto type on a big white slick SD as the second. My overall thought i would buy these flies. They are quality fish catchers that will last multiple fish unlike some others i have used that fall apart after a couple fish.
  2. When we were on Erie in june there was a sunday that was to rough to go out in the boat. So my wife and i rode bike with our three year old to the park at sterling state park from the camp ground. The play equipment is near the beach. I went over to the rest rooms and just walked in when i heard all kinds of screaming and my wife yelling call 911 someone is in the rip current. About 20 people daisy chained to pull two 12 - 14 yr old looking girls from the water. Of those two were the girls parents. I was on the phone at the same time reporting it. After they got the girls in the PARENTS let thier girls go right back into the water to play again without them being close to the water at all. I was still on the phone with the dispatcher when i saw the girls go back into the water and was telling the dispatcher about it. they did send a car out to talk to the family about the whole incident.
  3. I hope your getting that brown put on the wall??? nice fishin!!:thumb:
  4. Nice job Mike. Did you go north or south. trying to figure out where to set up for a short trip tomorrow night. i can't hit the water till almost 7pm
  5. I tried the abrax by seagaur and am impressed with it. for the amount of line you get for the money and they way it holds up i am sticking with this till somone buys the old gamma leader and puts it back on hte market.
  6. Talked to Jimmy a little while ago they held it up for one hour and then started the tournament. He said there was Lightning everywhere while they went out. 6-8s where they were fishing and watched a watersout try and form. He also said there were boats out there way to small to in that kind of water. I dont know what the heck they were thinking not calling it. Is tournament control trying to get someone killed. they had the boat hit by lightening that was less than a mile from us a couple years ago in ludington and alsmost kill that guy. I just dont get it. Maybe when they get someone killed they will make better decisions. Glad the WMFL leaders has more common sense. Glad to see that ken and don can look at the weather and realize it just isn't worth it some times. No fish is worth someones life.
  7. Thanks Jim. call me later tonight. Hey shoot me your email via pm i have a bunch of pics to get to you form the tournament.
  8. when we use it for lakers. You want it to just bump along the bottom. just like fishing your riggers for lakers. For kings you need to figure out how much line to let out to get to the depth where the feeind fish are.
  9. we 1 1/2 lb balls. but you have the setup correct. And like said before when you do get a fish on move it to one side or the other of the boat for netting fish.
  10. I use the Hook um pads. I added snaps and can hang them on the back of the boat and when i am done fishing they come off with all my spoons and right in the cabin leaving none out. http://www.hook-um.com/lure_products.html
  11. You aint kidding there. It only took me 16 months to get back to steady work. Nock on wood. And is the reason i haven't been fishing near as much. Now we are trying to get caught back up as unemployment sucks and had to use a lot of savings just to stay afloat. It makes it tougher when they kept cutting unemployment which doesn't pay anything anyways. I know a lot of people in a lot worse shape then we were, and a few that were selling all there gear just to try and stay in their houses. I haven't even had 20 bucks to my name to keep my membership up on here.
  12. I looked back and guess i missed what ever was said. i see a post saying Mike cleaned it up. We had a really good time in the tourney. Espically being on Jimmys boat and taking that 27 lber. I have to get the pics of my wifes camera and over to jim so he can get them posted. What was funny is He was just driving and asked me to drive and walked back and stood right next to that rod when it went. Just as he started to fight the fish the sky opened up and poured on him while the rest of us tried to stay dry. The fish was about 50 yds behind the boat and he yells "its a thirty pounder". It was great. Then we got in in the net and weighed the fish and i thought jimmy was gonna dance right there. We will be in it again next year.
  13. Was wondering what happened i made two posts and then got the dreaded page cant be displayed error. Thanks Mike
  14. Lemon ice or green dolphin
  15. I didn't take anything as slamming, and didn't mean it to sound like slamming at all. it was just a discussion about varying opinions on the tournaments. I get along fine with Mark and we have had a few different discussions on here.
  16. Tony if the boat is in ludington, call Johnsons Supreme Marine and have them take a look at it. they are a great group to deal with and will tell you exactly what is wrong with it if they find anything.
  17. 30 would work just fine. I typically have been using 50 lately.
  18. My bad your correct i read the rockaway and got it in my head that he was talking about south haven not saugatuck
  19. Kevin glad you didnt loose anything and thanks for the warning. While i have never dove that site personally i have done a ton of diving on other wrecks around the great lakes. Here some info on the rockaway and i think that is what you got tangled in looking at this site: http://www.michiganshipwrecks.org/rockaway.htm Here are the numbers on the wreck: N 42° 26.553" W 086° 18.400" Just off South Haven harbor 70' deep
  20. They are usually marked with a mooring bouy like sailboats use excepy with a dive flag painted on them marking them as a dive site. Most newer GPS units have all the great lakes wrecks marked on them like in the last 7 years or so. also the mapping software has the wrecks on them. Some units you have to turn on the feature to show ship wrecks. I know my old eagle seacharter i had to go into the setting and manually turn on the shiwreck markers. I was using the lake master chip. I also know ray marine and hummingbirds newer units are capable of this just not sure how to set it up as a couple of the dive boats have those brand units on them.
  21. We do but there is typically a better mooring bouy attached to the wrecks. Some morons like to cut them off and then when a dive boat goes out they have to find the wreck using sonar then try to get stopped right over it anchored which is next to impossible send a diver down to find the wreck so that divers can get down to the wreck safely and find it. let alone a saftey ascent line as they are used for, and reattache the mooring line because some moron cut the bouy off, and then use what ever they have onboard to hold that line up there till they can get back out with a better mooring bouy. So its not polluting with a dangerous marker.
  22. I agree with this. I dont have the time to prefish for a tournament. This gives people who show up friday night and never fished a port to at least have a chance. Its one big reason i dont fish money tourneys any more. Why should i donate my money to the guys that fish all the time. I may as well throuw them 2oo bucks and go home. At least in this everyone has a bit more of a chance. I fished Jimmys boat and we just got lucky with the 27lb fish that got us into the prizes. He also took off a couple days from work to fish so did a couple other guys. This means a whole team having to be able to use vacation time. Granted everything changed from friday to saturday and there were no fish where they were. I dont have the luxury of having a job that has a lot of time to get off with just getting back to work so my vacation days when i do get them right now have to be used for things other than just fishing. I may even enter my boat next year in this tournament. The others i still wont bother with as i dont have the time to take off at least three days before each one to prefish. edit If more of the tournament trail was like this i may fish a few tournaments. I like the rule and hope they dont pitch it or i wont be in it next year.
