The white powder is from the manufacturing process on some mono lines. XT is horrible for the powder but it doesn't mean the line is breaking down. I was told by a berkley rep years ago when they used to come to the shows that as long as it is in no direct sunlight and kept in a cool, dry place it will keep basically forever. Terry said that if you have the room in a fridge or freezer that it is best stored there so it stays cool. Berkley actually stores all their mono line in big fridge units till it ships out. He also said the number one killer is the sunlight itself and then heat second. I buy all my light line 6 and 8 lb test for river fishing in bulk spools and keep them in the fridge in the basement. I am going on like 6-8 years on my one spool of 8lb and no problems with it breaking or acting weaker then the day purchased.

Nice job guys. -
This one you have to start early. If you can make the salsa a day in advance it will taste better. 1/4 cilantro chopped fine 2 mangos cut in 1/4 inch squares 2 cucumbers peeled slice in half and remove all the seeds- middle as this will add to much moisture cut into 1/4 inch squares 1 red onion diced 1 lime mix all in a bowl squeeze lime over and mix again. let set till next day in the frige. if not at least a couple hours before starting to cook fish. Coat fillets generously on one side with blackening seasoning. I really like spring cohos for this or smaller kings. Pan fry till uncoated side first flip and fry till the seasoning just starts changing color. plate and place a generous amount of salsa over fish. The salsa actually gives a cooling effect to the spicy fish and the combo is awesome.

Did this one last night again. Place fillets in foil. Cut up onion and put some over the top of the fillets if you don't like onion you can skip this Squeeze a couple limes over the fillet. Pour your favorite salsa over the top. Seal the foil and cook on a hot grill till done. about 15 to 20 minutes.

Fluorocarbon is it a difference maker?
Line Dancin replied to BRIAN0214's topic in General Discussion
vicious is crap line in my opinion just as bad as berkly vanish. you really cant compare vicious to good flourocarbon line. i tried it when it first came out, and you wont ever see me buy it again. -
Fluorocarbon is it a difference maker?
Line Dancin replied to BRIAN0214's topic in General Discussion
I do think it makes a difference when the fish are fussy. When they have a feed bag on it doesn't seem to matter -
Boy can I relate to this. When this guy took over for the old boss things went down hill. Some people on here know of my last two years after being laid off and some of the stuff I went through. This guy would do anything to pick specifically on me and one other guy in our dept. He really didn’t like that the two of us went back to school to better ourselves. He even told me one day that I had a choice between my career there and school. Well I chose school. Anyone could do whatever they wanted but if I did the exact same thing I would get yelled at written up stuff like that. He would purposefully give me things to do to interfere with my regular job duties and then write you up for not doing your job properly. He cut my hours and nobody else’s trying to get me to quit, and then finally laid me off. I used to expect every morning to walk in and be told I didn’t have a job. Then the spineless punk called me on a vacation day to tell me I was laid off. He didn’t even have the cahoneys to call me in to the office and let me go:mad:. I found out a couple weeks ago that my old boss that made my life a living hell for 4 years was demoted . Took a HUGE pay cut less than I was making when I was there, and because of it had to get rid of his antique cutlass, then file bankruptcy . Now I have heard that he complains daily as he is doing my old job and being treated the same way he treated me :D. When I heard all this it put a huge smile on my face:D:D:D. Now that I have graduated and have a much better job I really wish I could run in to him and rub it in. I guess that is what they mean by what comes around goes around.

Season Over
Line Dancin replied to Chummer's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
I completely agree with what you had said:thumb:. I also have decided it is the end for this season and dropped my boat off on saturday to get it winterized and ready for next year. Was at the range last night and digging camo out tonight. -
lowrance graph/fishnhawk not getting along?
Line Dancin replied to jimbobber's topic in General Discussion
Jim also check the cone angle. I think it was set to 83. try the different cone angles also and see if that makes a difference. The 200 is the narrow cone. Also i think the ping speed was set to 15 kind of towards the high side. -

Nice job Jim -
Jay i run otterboats for walleye and like them a lot. I have heard about modifying them but have never seen or heard what to do. Any clues what guys are doing to modify them to make them run differently.

I have used 20 flouro and 20 big game. My two 225 coppers that i made up last week have 20 big game and i got most of my fish on those two rods last saturday. I do believe when the fish are shy that maybe flouro is a better option. i use both though with pretty equal success. I think until someone buys gamma and puts it back on the market i am going to stay with big game as my gamma supply is running low.

OH yeah and one lamprey on the 21 pound king. -
Had my cousin scott and friend Irv joined me for saturday morning. Went out to 90 ft and set up with stuff ranging from 20 to 60 down. 1 full core, 1 150 copper, 2 225 coppers, 2 divers back 100 and 120, 3 rigger from 20 to 60 down. Went 8 for 9 with the two biggest at 21 and 24 pounds on a certified scale for the GR steelheaders big fish contest. The rest were average two and three year old kings and one coho. What took fish: 1 fish big dreamweaver paddle green with a yougurt fly cant remember the name but a lemon ice typ of colors. 1 fish Big white glow dw paddle with a pickled sunshine fly. 2 fish little silver horde gold and green plug. 2 fish glow lucky charm aces high. 1 fish mongolian beef moonshine plug. 1 fish mountain dew paddle and pickled sunshine flie. The fish that came unbuttoned was also on that lucky charm aces high. Tried a couple spoons with no success. all plugs and flies. We were done at about 8:30 when the storm blew up. Watched a water spout try to form behind us about a quater mile and it was coming right down on us while we were pulling lines. we were back at the launch by 9:30. I guess we should have went back out by 11 it was laid back down i had heard. Evan wanted to see the fish so my wife brought him down and brought the camera so i actually have some pics from this trip. I need to get a cheap camera to leave on the boat.

Double D welcome aboard. I think my dad talked to you one weekend at the cleaning station a couple weeks back. This is a great group you'll like it here. -
Welcome aboard this is a great group of guys here.

You say you dont want electric, but i'll tell you after seeing one of the guys i worked with use an ice gator. i would never buy a gas unit. That thing is plain sweet and can cut a ton of holes, more that you would ever need to in a day in no time flat. That will be my next auger and i was against electrics at first also.

Buy bullets, i have to get busy and start loading bullets.

Nice job Jim and Abbie. After i met you at the launch we went down to the state park for a while and Evan said he was mad at me cause we didn't go to Jimmys house to play with Abbie. Edit Those cannons sure look nice on the back of your boat. -

I worked in outdoors retail for a long time before finally going back to school to sit in front of a monitor all day. Your logic is correct for a buyers view It is the peak season that will be ending in just a few short weeks for most. But there is hunting season that is just starting to wind up in a few weeks, actually 15 days to be exact. The problem comes from to much stuff to carry for most stores and not enough room to stock it all all the time. So they sell down a few weeks before the next season which in salmon fishing is right during peak season. If these stores don't get fishing equipment minimized and hunting gear out then they start loosing sales to other stores that have done just that. Even if it is a specialty fishing store Fishing is ending in just a few weeks for most and why oreder a bunch of stuff to have the overhead. Then when the new stuff comes out in jan nad feb they have to sell stuff at a loss to make room for new stuff coming in. I do understand your frustration as i was looking for a couple things also. but you know what i start hunting and going up north in a couple weeks and wont see my boat again till after december deer hunting is done.

Fished out of holland saturday with my dad and brother. what can i say a bad trip. Started out i handed rods to my brother going out from the doc from the cabin. for some reason one of my rod holder the pin broke and was stuck in so the rod holder wasnt locked. took off from the harbor and ran north towards port sheldon. when we got to where we were going to set up i went down in the cabin to grab a couple things when my brother says we got a problem. we are a rod shy. It was a copper rod okuma copper rod with a new tekota 800 with 225 copper. GONE. so i am ticked and we set up. hit a 9lb king right away on a rigger with a yellow tail moonshine down 55 in 80 ft of water. and missed another right after that one was reset. then nothing. trolled south to the slides. Jimmy called me at 10:30 and said put down spinnys and flies. so i started changing some things up changed to a big green paddle and howies nightmare on a diver back 150 and 15 minutes later landed a 14 lb king. As i was netting the fish i got this overwhelming smell of rubber burning and then it was gone. So we boxed the fish and i lifted the engine hatch. i had half a belt left. SO we pulled lines and beelined it for the harbor. Just as we got to the harbor and slowed down i smelled the rubber burning again and heard a bam. had my brother pop the hatch and one of the threads from the belt caught the wires for my bilge pump and float switch and they were all over the engine compartment. Made it back to the dock a little warm and thanks to the guys at the dock that let me cut and get in, if any of you are on here thanks again. Got docked and poped the hatch and the belt was just haning there. it slid right off. so off to the parts store and instead of fishing sunday we put everything back together. Luckily i was able to put the bilge system back together and nothing was actually broke on it. I did have to replace a 6 inch piece of wire that got into the pulleys. I have the tow insurance and almost had to use it saturday. I dont think i will go out witout it or an extra belt ever again.
