  1. Welcome Frank. this is a freindly place and everyone helps everyone learn here. The Guys on here are flat out some of the best people to get to know.
  2. what prop nut said and also turn your ping up to 3/4 speed. also check to see if you are on wide or narrow beam with your transducer. Turn your noise reduction and surface noise filters off i believe they are set to low from the factory. Jim this March at the fishing show plan on coming and going to a seminar by lance valentine called Sonar the basic and beyond. He also does one on the gps unit. Both are an hour long and more than worth sitting through to learn how to set up your sonar properly. This summer onerie was the first time i could mark fish while running and be able to tell they were fish i was going over all due to the info he will give you in that seminar. I learned more in an hour than what i have learned using these things for the las 25 years.
  3. Jim i was looking for one also. call DEE JAY SLICK TRUCk. they have a bunch of used ones in right now. A lot of glass ones though. They were telling me a basic black primer one (tin) new for my truck was like 550.00
  4. check ebay they had some walkers on there a few weeks ago that went for 30 each plus shipping. I know they have them on there from time to time and cheap at times. Just have to watch. also check craigslist out.
  5. Jimmy is right on the money. I also hate deer drives and we don't do it.
  6. Oh yeah he also sells a dvd set for like 30 bucks i think that covers the 2 hours sonar and gps seminars. http://www.walleyekid.com/inc/sdetail/4560/8609
  7. Depending on what you are looking for. The best seminars i have been to are Lance Valentines on sonar and GPS. He does a NON Product specific one hour seminar at the shows in Novi and Grand Rapids that is total information overload the first time you sit through it. But you will learn more in that hour from him then anything else i have read or watched. I actually sat through it twice, the second time with a notebook to copy down the setting he will tell you to start with and how to modify those setting depending on what you are seeing on the screen. If you have the time to get over to the detroit area I know he used to do specific product training, where you take in your unit and power cord and he goes over operation of the unit as well as settings. If you have a basic understanding of how to access the settings then i would suggest one of the shows. They are a free seminar that is put on. I know show span is trying to get booth space finalized for the january show i was just on a call with them last thursday. Once they get that finialized they post speakers and seminars at the show. The GPS seminar is equally good and usually follows the sonar seminar. So plan on a good two hours. You can watch www.showspan.com Ultimate fishing show and ultimate sports show links for details. Edit: Here is a link to Lances site: http://www.walleyekid.com/seminars___shows It looks like he is only doing the specific unit seminars on the lowrance hds units now. you can contact him and see if he is doing anyhthing else like that.
  8. Where are you located? If you had city or state in your profile i may be able to help.
  9. Thats plain funny. My three year old does stufflike that and it makes youlaugh after.
  10. Best way to freeze a fish you are going to have mounted is soak a towell with water wring it out and then wrap the fish. The put in a garbage bag and wrap trying to squeeze out as much air as possible. lay as flat as possible in the freezer and dont let it stay in to long before getting it to a taxedermist.
  11. The mount looks great Jim. How did the brown come out?
  12. I didn't type it right i meant the 225 was at 60 down. 300s at 80 ft. When i edited it it sounded right in my head just didn't come out right in type.
  13. Let out about half your copper and then attach the dive bomb.
  14. Last season my hot setup was a 225 45lb setup. Year before was a 300ft 45lb gets down to 60 ft i know cause in 60 ft i had sand in my swivels and mussels on my hooks. If you have a full core already. i woud consider a 225 and some dive bombs to get to that 80ft and 100ft depth when the fish are deeper. This way 1 rod would be like having 3 on board. Just my 2 cents.
  15. Joe where are you located? where are you planning on fishing, what body of water?
  16. I dont know if i ever posted a pic with the sricker on my boat or not that i got from you Mike. So here it is if i didn't
  17. WOW that person that did the article needs a map bad.
  18. Congrats to both of you. CAnt wait to get in the stand myself this coming weekend.
  19. some of the difference between a hummingbird and the raymarine are the user controls. When you start getting into the raymarine lowrance and furunos you have complete control of the unit where hummingbird still limits some things that are adjusted by certain other settings. Dont get me wrong hummingbird is a great unit but just limits some of the things you can do. If you want to get the most out of a unti you need to learn all the setting and how to adjust them and how each change affects another change. The only unit that allowed complete control when i was shopping two years ago was the top of the line hummingbird in thier line. Lowrance and eagle do the same thing as hummingbird with their lower end units. To get complete control you had to go into a HDS unit Raymarine or furuno unit. I ended up with an hds unit and absolutely love it. One reason i like the lowrance is i liked the menus setups better then the rays and furunos. Also with the broad band it is putting more rms power to the transducer than any other maker which allows you to see more and distinguish more on the screen. It is kind of like comparing a point and shoot camera to a dslr. Just something to consider while looking is how much control do you want to have and how much you really want to mess with the unit while fishing.
  20. SSSHHHHHH!!!!! dont give it away. We have been doing the same thing with the 2.5 inch glow squids for years. and i agree it really works well.
  21. I still use squids for lakers. I get them from cabelas in a ten pack for like 6 bucks Bass Pro has some in the ten packs also but not as many colors. There is also a guy on ebay that sells what are called radiant squids. They have UV and Glow. Thier glow is the longest lasting of the ones i have been using latley.
  22. I am now just finished getting the rods out and putting the canvas on the boat for storage.
