  1. Some guys love the 32 lb as it is easier to deal with. You do have to have more out to reach the same depth as 45 lb which means more cranking it back in also. It is a little heavier than lead core so it does get a little deeper than lead core. I personally like the 45 to get deep quicker. I use plain opti copper as it has a tighter twist like the atomic and morgans. When i finally get through what i have i might try the super copper, but i stilll have like 1000 ft left. I know Ken, Josh and Terry swear by the 32 lb blood run copper. I really think it is more of a personal thing with what you are trying to achieve and the time you want to spend learning it. If you take the time with 45lb, set the reel right and pay attention to what you are doing, it really isn't too much more difficult to deal with but the 32 does pay out more like lead core making it easier for some.
  2. I know where they are going to build. I go past it almost daily. They tore down a couple old office buildings and have been working there all summer putting in drain and water piping. There was a sign there this summer saying a new shopping complex was coming soon.
  3. super sweeeeettttt
  4. Usually i am not down there until the first week of june and i pull spoons 100% of the time anymore. This year we are putting the boat in early as it is only 150 bucks more than the one month rate for the whole seaon there. It is a economy dock with no electric or water but their is a couple places that they do allow you to plug in to for a short period of time to top off batteries. I have been working at tieing harness for this spring. I think i have about 25 tied right now.
  5. Just wanted to say thanks. My Dad came down to the meeting and said he learned a lot of valuable info from you on the early season. I am going to have my boat at brest bay marina the second week of may it looks like so your early seaon info will come in handy. I will be down for the whole last week of may. I will have a seat open during that week if you dont have a charter and can get out during the week. Thanks again. Question for you do you use reef runners much during that early period. I had heard of guys running them about 15 ft behind the boards in early and mid may?
  6. I really like the new olympus PEN cameras. they are super fast as they dont use a traditional cdw chip for processing the pictures. they are pricy though. They have high speed setting for pics like what you are wanting to take. The modes they have on the camera are a really good starting point till you master the manual settings. And if you ever dicide to get back into scuba they have a housing available. Here is a link to the camera: http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_digital_pen.asp?section=camera and the place i buy most of camera equipment: http://www.17photo.com Talk to a guy named Dove. He really knows his stuff on these cameras.
  7. I really wasn't looking for bags but a few other items they make. a few of the diver wraps and a few other items. The problem was he just ignored me and another customer that didn't even wait as long as i did. Granted it wasn't a huge purchase but he was just ignoring the customers at his booth completely. I do have a set of bags from him to get my speed down for harnesses as the slowest i can get my boat without them is about 1.9. They are great and that is the reason i wanted to buy more of his products. After the way he acted it annoyed me so i walked off also.
  8. I went to the mich ohio show saturday. It was a nice small show. I picked up a few things from some smaller vendors that dont go to the bigger shows. One place i was annoyed with was Amish Outfitters. I have heard how great they are. I walked up and started to ask a couple questions about a couple products i wanted to get. I was in the middle of trying to ask something when someone he new walked up and he started talking with him and completely ignored me. After about five minutes of standing there i tried to interupt to make a purchase he looked at me like he was annoyed at me, and continued talking to this guy. After another few minutes i tried again, to no avail. Walked around his booth for a few minutes looking at other things with cash in my hand plain and visible, to still be ignored. after 15 inutes i put the cash back in my wallet in front of him and walked off. I walked a little further to find Big Pappa. They had almost an identicale product that i wanted, answered my questions, and i made arrangements to get what i wanted as they didn't have it at the show. Being more of a walleye show they brought more walleye focuesd items and didn't bring the big lake stuff. That i understand and they were willing to work with me to get the stuff i wanted. He is planning on coming to the grand rapids show for one day but not with a booth and he is going to bring the product and meet with me so i can get what i want. Sorry amish outfitters but you lost a customer here.
  9. :thumb:Nice set up! Got a question on your rig. I built something similar. Where did you get the tapered parts to go into the spools.
  10. Agree call Neil he has tons of stuff in that little shop and is a great guy to deal with. He may have used and able to save you money also over ordering new.
  11. Vasnish is the worst line i have ever used for break offs. I wouldn't use it if it was given to me. Last year i tried seagurs abrax linebecause of an article in salt water journal. It is like 30 bucks a spool and is a little stiffer than the other flourocarbon lines. It is also supposed to retain more strength when it does get a nick then other flourocarbarn lines according to the article. It is 100% flourocarbon according to talking to their tech dept and the closest they make to gamma. I really wish someone would buy gamma line and start producing it again. It was well worth the money. I dont know how true all of it is, but that is what i had read and was told by calling them. I liked it but this year i'm trying triple fish out for the cost. I only had one break off that was entirely my fault.
  12. I was looking for info on the show and can only find the listing for last years show. Is there a show flier out for it?
  13. couple guys on here run the Daiwa wilderness rods. After discussing it with them and their success with them i decided i would try them. They are reg price like 20 bucks and at the shows they are like 15 bucks each. They make a great lead core rod/downrigger rod. I will be purchasing more of these rods in the near future. For copper you cant beat the okuma coper rods. They are a great rod i have 8 on my boat for my coppers and will stay with those for the money also.
  14. I second Floyds. When i was at the class 8 dealer that is who we used for any rebuilds. They are quick and reliable. When i had my electronic ignition put in they just replaced the distributor rotor and cap assembly, and kept the same coil. i did have the wires changed as they needed it at the time. As for brands etc i have no idea i had Johnsons in Ludington do it for me between two weekends of fishing.
  15. Yeah you do loose the slide diver options. It is like running a dipsy same connection at the front of the diver. Then you just have the extra arm set up that helps it trip when smaller fish hit it. The next thing i am going to try is to get some of the two ounce lead from them so they dont run as deep. I dont like the slide diver running on my line. As you said it creates wear points especially when running 12 lb test for walleyes. I think there is one in the precission trolling book. Here is one online that i use: http://www.slidediver.com/depth_chart.htm edit Frank i use them all the time. from ten foot of water out to 26 ft in michigan waters. I set mine on a #2 setting to run inside my otter boat lines. I run three to four lines on each of my boats. these are usually my deepest lines so the big jon mini divers clear when a fish hits.
  16. Heres one more for ya to look at it explains the program talked about in the third link. http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=373188
  17. I asked my dad as he did this years ago when he changed from Loran to GPS. He said he called the local coast guard station and got a decent guy on the phone that sat down with him and showed him the conversion but has no clue how to do it now. So i did a quick search and found three good articles on what you have to do. Here are the links. I know when we did it the converted numbers got you close but not spot on. Don't use the converted numbers for blind navigation as they are not accurate my dad said. I was in school the summer he went through all this and wasn't on the boat much that year so i didn't see what all he went through. http://www.ehow.com/how_6586661_convert-loran-gps-numbers.html http://www.fixya.com/support/t808238-converting_loran_numbers_gps http://www.loran.org/ILAArchive/Other%20Documents%20of%20Interest/Coordinates.htm
  18. Do you knwo what they charge to get into that show i am going to be on the other side of the state and may be able to make it down for it.
  19. For erie walleye fishing they are awesome. Set the trip arm real light and a small perch will trip them.Take a look at their instructions: http://slidediver.com/img/SlideDiver.pdf I use the Fixed Leader Directional Diver instructions. But where the fixed leader is i tie in a piece of 50lb PP about 8 inches long and another swivel, to hook my leader to. The reason is i was having an issue with my 12 lb flourocarbon breaking where it rubbed on the trip arm.
  20. It does leave a lot out a lot of people. I was a first mate through high school. Your past and present cuts me out even though it was 20 years ago. I wouldn't be able to anyways as i get home at 6 from work during the week.
  21. cool idea i may have to copy that one.
  22. Be careful around the nets. Some of them are hardly visible underwater. Last year there were a couple divers that got tangled in them and they had to be cut free. there is also long lengths on mon trailing off them from guys that tangle into them and man you cant see that stuff. And it is unbelievable how strong it is underwater. I got tangled on the Kueka a few years back and if i didn't have a tank banger my buddy i was with didn't notice i disappered. It tangled on my tank valve and then with fighting with that i tangled myself more with the dive flag line. He had to cut me free of that one. If you do go make sure you have good dive shears, and a buddy that pays attention.
  23. Welcome aboard. Nice fishing rig you have there.
  24. Ken do you notice a diffence in catches with flipping the way the skirt is going? Also do you notice any damage to the mylar where you fold it back/ flies not lasting as long folding it over the wraps? I have seen your post on doing that and someone posted on here or another site they do fold back the skirt and i am curious about it.
