  1. Those cannons are pretty pricey when you add in the track also. For similar money the Big Jon HD Diver holders are AWESOME and they come with a piece of track. i have a pair of the HDs and they have the HDs that ratchet up. You could probably lift your boat with these things. non ratchet http://www.lordoftheriggers.com/item/?product=35 ratchet http://www.lordoftheriggers.com/item/?product=67
  2. I was told that the show really isn't worth going to. Is there several tackle vendors that go to this show? The guy that told me said he was through the show in less than an hour and was utterly disappointed after driving two hours to get there.
  3. thats why a lot of the guys here praise him so much. He lives in cadillac and gets stuff daily from big jon. if he doesn't have it at his house he will have it drop shipped and you'll have it in a day or two. if you do a search and type in lord of the riggers you'll see what i am talking about.
  4. the tite loks are 35 - 40 the big jons are 54 at tonys. I would coughup the extra 15 or so dollars per holder to save the grief.
  5. Here is a link to a good rod holder from tony. send him an email with hom many you want and that your from the board and he may be able to help you out. http://www.lordoftheriggers.com/item/?product=18 If you go with the tit loks do not run mag divers or you will loose rods and break rod holders. I had a couple break running mags.
  6. I had tite loks for a few bucks more a pice contact tony at lord of the riggers. he is an advertiser here on the board. Talk tohim about big jon holders. you wont be disappointed. tite locks after a few years you'll be replacing them. How many holders are you wanting to put on?
  7. I dont have trees but if i was to buy a set they would be from Tony at lord of the riggers. Customer service is second to none, and his prices are the best.
  8. It started today and goes through Saturday. They are going to have some awesome deals. I was clued in on a few Monday night.
  9. I learned this from buying scuba gear for the last 19 years. I always give my local shop a chance to at least do what they can to get me close. If they are willing then i will buy from them otherwise i will go to the best price. Its just like franks on their walleye reels for 28 bucks knowone can beat their price and looking at okumas site they are also below MSRP. Everyone else is 40 to 50 bucks on them. I dont shop at the places that are just a warehouse with a internet store front like the camera/ scuba/ fine jewelery/ electronics /home furnishings/ places in new york. Northwoods is a local place just like franks and the outdoorsman. If you say that you dont buy from a place that has an online shop youd better take a look at outdoorsmans website, they have had an internet business for years with different pricing than in store. I have been buying from them for years before i moved to where i am at now and have only been going to the shop itself for about five years now. Right now they are doing a redesign on that sales page. Not trying to start a fight but just want to make a point here. I know the little shops can't always compete but ya know my money is hard earned and with the prices of things(food, gas, ect) i am very concious of what i spend and where. If my wages were going up as the rest of the goods are then i wouldn't worry, but my wages have stayed the same and everything has gone up. I learned that from being laid off for almost two years and my wife for almost a year at the same time. Being frugal kept us going. If it isn't a deal it isnt a sale.
  10. I am actually going there for the first time saturday. I oredered the two reels and set them for in store pick up. I hear it is great. My brother goes there a lot.
  11. I did talk to Charley at Boardlows fishing hole today. He is going to come to Grand Rapids. He usually has a lot of the special type stuff that others don't have. He didn't do the Detroit show and was considering skipping GR this year. Mik Lurch the booth that is usually bigger than franks is all done doing the shows in michigan. They were another one i always went to for stuff. I talked Kevins daughter there and she was saying that it just isn't worth it since the prices on booth space went up a couple years ago. all they are doing is shuffling money and hardly posting a profit by the time they pay for fuel, hotels, meals, and help.
  12. I already have my stuff picked out at outdoorsman waiting for thursday. I mix online and store purchases. Outdoorsman gets most of my money when buying fishing gear as they are about three minutes from my front door. I am wondering how the Grand Rapids show is going to be this year. There are some big vendors that backed out of the shows this year.
  13. Thanks for posting that. I just convinced myself last night i didn't need more reels, and have now ordered two of the 45s
  14. Bass pro has there spring sale going on right now and they have boat seats on sale at pretty good buys. My brother is waiting till this friday as they have one that is going to be from like 60 to 20 bucks for the seat and he was saying the pedestals and swivels are supposed to be on sale also. Might want to take a llok at their add and see if something would work.
  15. outdoorsman carries blood run in 45 and 32 super. take it in there and they can set up what ever you decide to go with. I would stay away from howies. I had nothing but problems from howies. I currently use opti tackle and when i finally run out i am going to make the switch to either morgans super copper or blood run in 45 lb.
  16. Trust me there are lots of deer throughout that county, and some huge racks. I killed a lot of deer out there when i was younger. Some of the farmers do have their extended families hunt there farms. The farmers in that are just don't let anyone that asks hunt on their land. It is a very difficult area to get permission. On my dads friend near Jerome there were tons of blinds. the only one that hunted it were the land owner his brother and his son. Plus My dad and me. All the blinds were theirs.
  17. if your hunting private land. it depends on how many people are hunting on the lands of the surrounding farmers. On one of my Dads friends farms there was virtually no pressure as it was surrounded by other private land that the farmers didn't allow many people on the land. If it near the state land hold on to your hat and duck. On the other farm the one side bordered state land and knowone hunted that side as there were a mess of hunters on the state land. the good thing about having all the hunters on the state land was it really got the deer moving. We saw more deer on that land as all the hunters moving around moved the deer they did't just lay down during the day like the other farm.
  18. I run bobmer long As, 5-6 in rapalas and the such in mid to late summer on high lines with good success. One of the best baits we use if you can find them are the old Believer(http://www.driftertackle.com/products/believer.php) musky lures in the 5 inch size. They got bought out years ago and quit making the 3-5 inch sizes. i haven't tried the new 6 in size. 8 years ago we took money in the ludington tourney with a bright orange with chartruese on a ten color with a 29 lb king off the bath house. Heres a pic of that fish with my friend holding it up by his four year old son who was a little afraid of the fish.
  19. I used to. Whats your questions.
  20. Got this today from Boat US about gps and Lightsquad using gps satellites: Dear BoatU.S. Member: Last summer boaters sent a clear message to the Federal Communications Commission – “Don’t Mess with GPS!" As you may remember, a private company, LightSquared, received preliminary FCC approval to offer a new cellular broadband service. Tests showed this service could significantly interfere with GPS signals. Thanks to over 18,000 boaters who submitted comments, along with many other GPS users, the FCC required additional testing in the fall. (Thank you all for your help!) Last week, these tests revealed that the LightSquared’s network would interfere with GPS and that there are no practical fixes. As a result, the FCC has proposed to withdraw LightSquared's approval.(http://www.gps.gov/news/2012/02/lightsquared/ ) The FCC has a new comment period (open to March 1) asking for the public’s opinion. Even if you wrote last summer, please take a few minutes now and write the FCC asking them to protect the GPS signal by saying “No†to LightSquared’s current proposal. Given this company’s tenacity over the last year, we want to make sure that boaters’ needs are remembered as the FCC makes their final decision. Important points to make: •How do you use GPS in your life – on the water, on land, or in the air? •What would happen to your business/personal life if GPS became unavailable or unreliable? •Wireless broadband service is important, but it should not come at the expense of GPS. •All the studies show that LightSquared’s proposed network would cause interference and that there are no remedies. •Tell FCC that you rely on them to protect the integrity of the GPS signal and that you support their recommendation to stop LightSquared’s current proposal You can submit comments directly to the FCC through their online comment form. (We regret we can’t streamline this process for you, but it is important enough we’re still asking for your help.) Here’s how: 1.Click on this link for the FCC’s Electronic Comments Filing System (ECFS): http://apps.fcc.gov/ecfs/hotdocket/list 2.Select “Proceeding Number 11-109.†It should be near the top of the list. 3.In the designated boxes, enter your name and mailing address. 4.In the box that says “Type in or paste your brief comments,†do so. Click “Continueâ€. 5.A review page will load listing all of the information entered. If correct, click “Confirm.†6.If you have any trouble, you may contact the FCC ECFS Helpdesk at 202-418-0193 or email at [email protected] Thank you for taking action to protect the integrity of the GPS system. 21. I have tied stingers before but your way is much easier than the way i used to do it. Thanks.
  22. Usually outdoorsman has a little better pricing in the store than the show because of having to cover booth space. As far as deals at the show some of the big names dropped out from last year. Mik Lurch is no longer doing the shows Boardlows fishin hole wasnt at detroit. The names of a couple other places slip my mind now but they were the big salmon booths. The Showspan people ended up giving Franks a huge area from the booths that dropped out to set up ice shanties. And they had more mexican blankets and indian jewelery than i have ever seen at the showspan shows. I havent heard if boardlows is doing grand rapids. AS far as reel prices he is usually the best priced in the show.
  23. I'll be up there to birch run saturday and all four days at GR
  24. I am going to disagree with you on the store not being geared towards Michigan. If they do what they did with the hammod indiana store here, then they will have an expanded salmon selection like the hammond store. Both the Bass Pro(indiana also) and Cabelas have stuff in those two stores geared more to the local fishing. Just like the bass pro and cabelas in rossford oh and dundee have more walleye stuff then the indiana stores do. I do love shopping at franks and some of the other local stores also as i like to support my local shops.
