  1. Nice job Jimmy. I just got back to my parents from geting things set up in monroe. I got your text message sorry i didn't reply i was in a construction zone with the boat trailer.
  2. Now you get to rerig after buying stuff for your other boat. The fun of this addiction we call fishing. Call hitches by george www.hitchesbygeorge.com and ask them to order you the buffing compound with the xaw in it for boats. They used to sell it at the shows. It is locally made and is 35 bucks for a gallon. It is hands down the best stuff i have used to date and i tried a lot of different products. It gets rid of all the oxidation(sp?). Get an angle buffer there like 35 bucks at harbor freight. You'll want a good buffer for using the stuff. It will bring the luster back and after doing it a couple good times you'll be able to see your reflection in it again. After the first good rub out you'll use less the next year. right now a gallon lasts me about 4 - 5 years.
  3. Jimmy here are the pics i told you i would post
  4. Here are a couple mounted on the boat. Headed for Erie in the morning to get the boat in the slip.
  5. Nice bird!!
  6. isolate the fishfinder from the battery that the engine is on. If you have room to add a small deep cycle you will eliminate all noise issues. I had the same problem and Lance Valentine was in monroe a couple years back at the marina i was at he told me to disconect one of my two batterys from the engine and it should eliminate the noise. We went out that evening and problem solved. I stopped at walmart that night to add a small deep cycle and now have my marine radio which i also had a noise problem with and the fish finder on that battery alone. I even went sofar as to buy a new marine radio thinking the radio was bad. after i did that no more problems.
  7. Welcome Heidi! Jimmy was telling me about you getting set up while we were fishing saturday. Good luck in getting started it is an addiction.
  8. A few years back i upgraded two of my walker riggers that were on my dads boat to the new high torque high speed motors. I tossed the old motors in a box and put them on a shelf. This year i added a new mast for my big boards for walleye fishing. I thought about tossing them or selling them but never did. Last week i was looking at the power head from big jon and thinking i might buy one for next season. Then i remembered i had the motors on the shelf, the most expensive part to that system sitting on the shelves in the basment. I decided that i could put something together and went to lowes. 1 - 1"X6"x2' and 1 - 1/2"x6"x2' hardwood and a few screws and three ubolts and i put it together. added a couple reverse polarity switches in the dash and ran some wire. I did have to order two spools from Neil at walker but was able to get a couple used ones for 30 bucks. For about 70 bucks i built my own power head and it seems to be working great. I'll post some pics later today. Hopefully my spools show up today so i can finish it and add my planer line.
  9. hey i was out there in the rain reeling in a fish... It just wasn't raining as hard as when you were out there Jim.
  10. At dixie hwy there is a kings inn red roof inn and a motel 6 all have areas to park with a boat. Red roof and motels 6 being the easiest in and out with a trailer. Both are safe i have stayed more at red roof so the wife and son can enjoy the pool while i am fishing. Also ther red roof has a continental breakfast microwave and fridge in the room for 5 bucks more the motel 6. Motel 6 is just a hotel room and nothing more for the money. You are just down the road from all the restaurants and about two miles from sterling state park. Sterling also has a fsih cleaning station and power for electric fillet knives. bring a three way block with you as they only have one outlet though. They have a really nice launch there with i think ten spots total for launch and retrieve 5 in and 5 out i believe. They should have the markers out for the channel if they dont stay in the middle as much as possible it gets shallow quick. Sub net stakes were from the old days of commercial fishing. Stakes are cut off just above bottom and nothing to worry about. Those spots do act as structure and hold perch. Equipment small spoons copper backs are best and big jon mini discs off boards whether big or inline work. if using inlines watch close as silver bass wont pull them back very hard. I use all 12 lb test on my walleye gear.
  11. Thanks for the invite jimmy it was fun as always. I will try and bring the chip over later this week to update your hds5. i plan on doing mine tomorrow.
  12. Anns canvas in walker has everthing and they are reasonable.
  13. Bass pro in auburn hills has the ranger salmon nets with the octagon telescoping handle for 75 or 80 bucks. they had about a dozen when i was there a couple weeks ago. I have three now winning one in a raffle. I like two nets in the boat just incase someone looses one. something breaks or a hook and fish get intangled and you need the second for another fish.
  14. Two reasons for no 1. According to the rules i cant cause i worked on charter boats during high school as a mate. 2. With where i am working now i dont think i could get there in time to fish it.
  15. I would probably be interested in at least 4 if the price is right.
  16. Cool trip jim. Thats the one thing i haven't done down there. Looks like more fun than the red snapper boats we usually go out on when down there.
  17. On erie i use mainly spoons on big jon mini discs. you can run them off inlines or big boards. When the bite is slow i do use crawler harnesses but not very often. When i do run harnesses i use a one to one and a half ounce bottom walker and troll at about 1.5-1.9. Using bags that is about as slow as i can get.My buddys sportcraft can get down to 1.2 and he does better on harnesses slower then what i can get. anything from the little silver streaks to the juniors work well. Lake erie copper blades and purple or pink and you take a mess every time out. I run all 12 lb test on my rods with 12 lb flourocardon leaders. spoons i dont like are the little walleye sized stingers they bend way to easy and the paint falls off after a few times in the water. Also the little dreamweavers work well. I have recently been buying the spoon blanks from Janns Netcraft that are painted and you add the split ring and hook for a couple bucks a piece. I took a lot of fish on those including a 7 1/2 pounder last june. I do have body baits and the cotton cordel reef runner type baits but have not used them much. also hot n tots work i have a ton from my dads boat when he used to fish down there they that dont see the water much either any more. Another thing that helps when netting fish is to have a rubber walleye net. They are a little pricey but work great and the hooks never get stuck in it.
  18. thats the copper rod.I have 8 on my boat, and a copper birds nest is no fun to deal with. Take your time with it letting it out and thumb that spool.
  19. okuma makes an 8'6" copper rod that has oversized all metal guides the copper flows through very well. I do know a couple guys using the diawa wilderness rod and are able to fish copper. the trick is when the knot gets close to the tip dip the rod tip till it gets past the tip. and then again with the knot end at the leader. Before they came out with copper rods that was the way you had to do it. Other wise the knot will get stuck at the tip.
  20. I have 2 tekota 800s with my 300s and 2 cv55l with my 225s. 55l will handle both lengths nicely with 300 yds 50lb power pro backing. I always put about a 20 ft length of 30 lb test between the backer and copper to attach my boards to
  21. no roller rod needed 150 about 40 about equal to a full core 225 about 60 300 about 80 425 about 90-95 It is also dependant on speed and current as to where in the water column it is at. This is a close reference to the depths. If you do buy copper get the super copper it is easier to deal with than regular copper. Here is a depth chart for 45 lb: http://www.educatedangler.com/forums?func=view&catid=11&id=16593
  22. Wire for divers There are two lb tests of copper 32 and 45. 45 is heavier, and gets deeper than the 32. 32 fishes more like lead core and is a little deeper than lead core. 300' 45 lb copper fishes about 80 down. Personally and i know some guys on here love the 32 blood run, if i am going to run copper i want it to get deeper so i run the 45. Otherwise you may as well run lead core. It is cheaper and easier to deal with. i run up to a 7 color than go to 150 225 300 and 425 lengths of copper.
