  1. I might tick off a couple people but here it goes: I like Mikes idea of 7 i also like the the idea of NO PREFISHING. I was reading this and my dad brought up that in the old days of tournament you werent allowed to fish from wednesday till the start of the tournament in the big money tournaments. this levels the playing field like the old days. If your caught prefishing your DQed. This makes it fair for the guys that dont have the vacation time to prefish a tournament and get there on friday just in time for the captains meetings. I think they should do this through the whole of the tournament trail. You might see your numbers increase if you did that. I know i would fish more tournaments. The only reason i have been fishing any is because of being on boats that have been prefisihng otherwise i wouldn't throw away my money entering a tournament. By the time i figure the entry fees of at least a couple hundred bucks, fuel for the truck about 150, if it is a ways from home fuel for the van towing the camper, camp grounds fees fuel for the boat. It is about a grand to two grand. So why should i spend a grand to drive up on a friday, spend a grand, to fish a tournament that there is no way in hell i have a chance at because of the guys that have taken the time to prefish and know right where to go and set up on the fish whehn i would have no clue where to start. The way i see it with starting a new job i dont have the vaca time. The time that i do get i use for a family vacation and i know a lot of guys that do the same. if I was to use all my vaca time to prefish my wife would not allow me to fish nearly as much, if at all or divorced. Sorry for the rant but this is how i feel about the tournamets now. I like fishing fishing them dont get me wrong.
  2. Yeah me too i am hopping to fish saturday and sunday.
  3. Well stated out on friday having a canvas shop come out and do a bunch of work on my top. replace 3 zippers both sides and modify my back piece off my bimini. The name of the place is LULUs Covers. and they were 200-300 bucks less than any other shop. They came to the boat brought their sewing machine and did the work right there. The other shops wanted me to pull my boat and bring it to them. They did a great job and if you are in the detroit/monroe area and need canvas work i would recommend them. They are the only ones brest bay marina in recommending because of price and quality of work. Saturday about 100 silver bass and four walleye. straight out of the raisin in 23 ft of water on purple spoons and mini discs 70 back. Sunday we decided to run down to the dumping grounds. It was a bumpy ride down. got all the lines set and my brother says i see lightening. Sure enough. turned around and headed back. Tlaked to a couple guys that weathers the storm and they said it was nasty one guy got quite a jolt grabbing a rod. another said his rocket launchers were sparking between them. Monday too dang hot. Tuesday didn't fish had a few things to do Wednesday Dad and i Limited out. Started using bigger spoons to get away form the silvers and got our walleye in about three hours straight out of brest bay in 19 ft of water 60 - 80 back on mini divers and silver streak minis, anything with purplr and chartruse. some real nice chunky fish about 19 inches average. a couple 15s and a couple 14 inch throw backs. About 35 silver bass throw backs. Using the bigger spoons got us away from the silver bass. I had also been told going to jr thundersticks was getting guys away from the silver bass. We tried but where we were the fish wanted spoons. thursday thru sunday it blew like a b^%$#. At points there was so little water in the marina if i stepped on to the boat i could feel it hit the bottom.
  4. tltorrice whats your boat name. I wont be out till the afternoon tomorrow. There were tons of grass today. had to pull the boards in twice to clean about fifty pounds of grass off the planer lines. DId manage four nice fish today, and about 150 silver bass.
  5. we ran down to the dumping grounds caught a bunch of silvers saw the lightening and ran back to brest bay. got to the dock just as it opened up. No walleye.
  6. no the copper is soft and doesnt wear the tip at all. I alos yse the okuma copper rods and have 8 on my boat.
  7. my rules on my boat is no beer on board. It isnt worth the hassle from the sherrif or coast guard. not only that i am out there to kill fish not brain cells. We can have a drink back at the fish cleaning station or at the house. but i wont have it on the boat.
  8. nics job randy. i didnt fish today i had a canvas shop out working on my boat today. I did get the boat all set up for saturday morning and have the back canvas repaired and modified to fit with the riggers and holers on.
  9. I like your comments. Here one more way to make it more fair. Lets go back to the old days of money tournaments and not allow prefishing from wednesday till the tournament. that way the guy that cant get off work to prefish can still get in and have a chance.
  10. thanks for the info. I pmed you my cell. I just noticed where your from my inlaws live right near you. they live in monclova. off weckerly road and 21 A
  11. Thanks for the info. I'll give you a holler on the radio. I am headed over after work tomorrow and will be there for 11 days.
  12. thanks jon, Al least we were catching something. I had about 50-75 releases out on each board by the time we quit fishing both days. and almost all of those were silver bass. Jimmys prototype JPSlammers took silvers as quick as they hit the water. Two of the walleye were caught on the prototypes.
  13. Thats what i had heard so saturday morning that where we headed and it was a bust in that are. when we finally did get the one saturday it was in front of sterling. in 20 ft of water on a crawler harness with a gulp night crawler. sunday was the same opnly two were in that same area. I heard last night turtle island area was hot and the dumping grounds were ok. I have to get my ohio license and put in the coordinates for turtle island and try it out.
  14. I started doing mine every year. I had a blown seal last spring in my right brake wheel and this year in my left. All my grease was flowing into my brakes. Like you said for the couple hours it take and 8 bucks in new seals it is good insurance against bearing failure. I went that road once and never again. cost me a couple hundred bucks by the time it was done.
  15. Well fishing was tough to say the least. We fished from fermi to the raisin river from 17 ft to the border. 3 small walleye for about 200 silver bass for two days of fishing. I haven't hooked that many silvers in years. Sounded like fishing was pretty slow all over in michigan waters. Everyone was complaining about how many silver bass were out there. Two more days than i will be fishing down there for the whole week.
  16. the listerine thing doesn't work. here is a link that talks about it: http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/medical/a/listerine.htm
  17. OH ok we will be getting down there on the 25th. Good luck. Jefs bait is a wealth of knowledge. as already said.
  18. When are you going to be there. I just moved my boat over to erie last week. I will be fishing this weekend and off and fishing there all memorial week staying at sterling state park from monday mem day through taht sunday. Here are some coordinates so you have an idea of where people are talking about. I talked to the marina today and they were saying the fish are out by sputnick in ohio waters right now. Ohio is only two rods per angler if you go out there. Tons of silver bass in the normal michigan waters. Sputnick is a ride just so you know. I am usually on 68 down there. Here is a link to a chart with all the basic gps coordinates you should have for over there. Print it out and take it with you. http://www.lakeeriesportfishing.com/pdfs/westernbasinhotspots.pdf
