  1. Nice job Jimmy. Give me a call later tonight
  2. You do have to get the "feel" for those releases. I uses a piece of 30' of 30 or 40lb mono between my braid and board (40 lb the last 2 years). This does a few things for me. It shows wear that braid doesn't so i can retye before having a break off. It doesn't allow the board to slip down the line. It is a little thicker and works better with the barrell releases. 20 and 25 lb i had a hard time getting it to hold in the release so then i would jam it in and then it wouldnt release with the 30 and 40 lb that issue seems to have gone away for me. or again maybe i just have the feel for setting it now.
  3. I had a set new in the package that needed setting up so i set them up and took some pics. the front release i use is the big jon barrell release both available at gander mountains they hold a 300 copper just fine in rough water and only release when a fish hits. the back is the or 16 http://www.offshoretackle.com/OR16.html I have two sets of tx 44s that will be set up the same way and will be tried when i get the boat back on this side of the state. pics:
  4. I have churches and offshores i set them all the same way. They are on the boat over on erie i am headed over this weekend and i can take a couple pics and post them. The or16 if you are not familiar with them have a pin in them that wont alow themto comeoff the line unless you open the release enough. You just have to make sure the line gets behind the pin.
  5. If you use an or 16 at the back of the board it will not slide down. I put a small screw eye into the board to atach it to. the front is set to release. that board will not move unless you unclip it and move it. So if you are letting out a ten color and it release off the front release you just reel it in to where the board was set as the 0r16 holds it in the same place not sliding down 10 colors. reset the front release and let it back out. One a fish hit and it releases you are fighting just the fish not the board being pulled around by a fish.
  6. cv 55l 200yds 50lb power pro 30' 30 lb test 450' 45lb copper 35 fr leader. If i'm trying to get deep than i use 45lb 32 just doesnt get deep enough and may as well run lead core. I put it together last spring and havnet used it yet. last year my 225s were the hot ones. My boat comes home from erie in two weeks and we'll see if i am running it this year. I was going to get one of the Clarions High speed this year to put that on but was told by Bill and Gracen at the outdoorsman that the drags are smaller than the convevtor and aren't holding up so they are discontinuing the reel till okuma fixes that.
  7. I do the same thing.
  8. It isn't the jumpers but and i know it is a inland lake but i still say kill it off we dont need any of those nasty things in this state.
  9. Kill that lake off now dont wait. It will come back better in the long run.
  10. Nice Job jim. I am brining my boat back to this side of the state in two weeks i am thinking.
  11. they were a good rigger. The company is still in business so if you need parts you should be able to get them. http://www.rivieratrolling.com/products.html
  12. Let canada pay for it. They are the ones that want it so bad to bring their garbage here and fill our dumps. They have enough land let them build their own dumps, then we wont need another bridge.
  13. My typical go to lure is streaks. stinger bend to easy and the paint falls off. I hate trying to open a package and bend a spoon. My equal other top choice is the proto types i am trying for Jimmy on erie. They are producing as many if not more fish than my other spoons. I also have pro eyes from janns netcraft and they work realy well. I also have moonshines, yeck, and some from a small tackle company in st clair shores that work really well. Walleye aren't too fussy as long as it has purple on it.
  14. I have a few close friends who are captains. I was thinking of doing it part time. But the money you make part time isn't that great compared to the expenses. Talk to a couple captains and really look at the expenses that are involved. You may break even doing it part time or make a little. As was said people won't be beating down your door with this economy and what you have to charge to cover expenses. With the price of the class, license, inspections. You also have to look at other expenses as insurance is totally different for charter boats, a whole lot more. It is not a standard insurance policy. Then if your not good at accounting you have a accountant involved. You'll have taxes and business licensing. This is stuff they showed me and the it takes the fun out of fishing and changes it to a job. I workded on some of these boats (full time boats 7 days a week) through high school and to be totally honest after six years of being a mate i really didn't want to go out on a boat. It really took the fun out of it for me. Just some things to consider
  15. SO what do you do with all the fish you catch? I would think the DNR would have an issue with "bartering" as it is a form of a sale. If they find out you can bet your but they will find a way to nail you.
  16. Nice job out there. cant wait till this weekend to get back over there. Only three weekends left till i bring the boat back to this side of the state.
  17. i set mine up like nailer does. Run it on boards just like lead core. deepest\longest closet to the boat. shallowest\shortest furthest.
  18. Is it a recent purchase? If so call uniden. There was a problem with some of the recent radios not transmitting.Guy in the slip next to me couldnt talk over the radio to me sitting in the same marina.called uniden and they are sending him a new radio cause of issues with some radios.I believe his was a solara also.
  19. I have a 450 and there is no way i am going anything longer. If i need that depth i have downriggers and 15 lb sharks to get down there.
  20. We are usually down in the monroe area. Sterling state park has a nice campgrounds right on the lake. the launch is right there with a fish cleaning station. and if you want to slip yopur boat for the time your there Brest Bay marina in about 8 minutes away. I think it is like 25 bucks a night. I sent you a pm give me a call and i can give you more info.
  21. started out straight out of brest bay in 20 ft of water trying to find fish. pick up one right away then nothing. Moved down to the raisin river in 20 ft. found a small pod of fish about a hundred yards outside of the bouys for the shipping channel. picked up three and made a circle around. we ended up staying pretty much in that area and picking away at em till we had 13 in the cooler. most were nice sized fish with only two at 15 12/2 inches. Did have about four 14 throwback. Best bait was anything with purple and chartruese in the silver streak mini size. 3.2 ground speed to keep the silver bass off and 70 ft back using mini discs. Sunday ran to sputnick. got 8 out there. some real hogs though for the fewer fish. probably ended up with about the same amount of meat from those 8. what worked. slide diver lite bites back 35-40 ft with minis same colors as abouve. Diver discs back 85-90 with jrs and minis same colors as above. We tried everything out there to get things going tried about 2.5 then slowed down. Wasnt till we got the speed back up to 3.0 that we started getting fish. 21 fish for the weekend and 43 for the season so far.
  22. It was nice talkin to you out there Ed. We ended with 13 and 8 on sunday. I am going to post a full report later.
  23. Thanks Nick. Nice Job! We'll be down saturday morning. If your out give me a call on my cell. Ed you going down this weekend?
  24. I use 30-40ft of 20lb flourocarbon. I haven't found that using longer leaders is needed and it allows me to cut back and retye if needed. So far i have only had a couple seasons where i had to replace a whole leader. Once was due to tangling a dipsy into it.
