Nice Job on the perch. I wanted to get some perching in this year but with all crap i've had going on this sept there was just no way to do it. Maybe next year.

Well for black flies i get out the 100% deet and use it carefully not to get it on any fishing line as it will eat it, and break out the fly swatters and keep fishing. Also turn on the therma cell. I dont think anything could be worse then the little flies that were on on erie this past summer i have never seen anything like that. and nothing would get rid of them.

For salmon usually about five hours. Walleye since i have to drive three and a half hours to monroe. till we limit or it is to nasty to be out and i have been out in some crap weather over there. Typically about 4 hours for a three to four man limit. there are those days though..........

the other thing that i like about braid over wire is wire is like a razor blade in the water. If you get an unruly fish that decides to go out to the side under the wire then back up its gone no tangle just cut line. Braid will mess up the mono but you will at least have a chance to get the fish to the boat.

Low water levels
Line Dancin replied to numberguy77's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
the marina i keep my boat in over on erie is worried as they have dredged to the bedrock. At the end of june i had a heck of a time with the water being low then. The owner is worried that he may have to for the first time shut down part of the marina as the water is so low in that area. Pray for snow. I hate it but man we really need it bad. -
I have both. I like my wire for getting deep. I tend to use my braid divers more for walleye with lite bit slide divers and in early spring shallow water fishing. I like the torpedo divers wire. If it does get a kink it doesnt break like the other brands. It is a little more expensive but i have lost less gear with it than anything else i have tried in wire. Personally if it was me and you dont have long coppers or lead and have the braid divers already i would look at setting the long lines up. As far as tips for wire. I have tried the different one and ended with the torpedo tips, which i like by far the best. They are similar the aftcos at 65 bucks a piece and have held up just fine edit: Here is a link to the wire i am using https://www.torpedodivers.com/scart/product_details.asp?ItemNum=M0010

Ya know i hear that a lot that people hate the coated cable. I have had my subtroll for about five seasons now. I have only had to trim back a few inches from my terminator once a season as i use cable tensoin springs and it will wear the coating at the one end. other than that i hav not had any other issuse. It is a five minut fix when it does happn and if i didnt have the springs i would eliminate that issue. Which is what i am going to do this spring.

explain what he was doing im interested to know and maybe try it also.

torpedo divers makes it. https://www.torpedodivers.com/scart/product_details.asp?ItemNum=P0010 I havent tried it as they were having some issues with the internal copper wire breaking. I know they were going through a redesign mid summer but havnt heard any feedback on the new wire.

IS this on Erie? with the way steelhead smash baits i would think just fine. If you know your in a steelie area turn the tension up a touch. with the line twisted and in the release it will still give the tip twitch showing a small fish just a little more subtly than having the 8 inch piece of cable between the release and the ball. This spring most of the little coho the only way we new they were on was a slight change in the tip action of the rod this was on blacks releases. My dad used to run clean spoons off shore for steelies these spoons hardly had tension. He would let out a couple hundred feet of line straight down the chute with just a spoon. same with out the sides when he went out there. and we always took a mess of fish out there. I just dont think i could blame the release for it.

I have a sub troll and love it. what sold me on the subtroll was the unit head is damped so you dont get the constant bouncing of speed from going up and down waves and such. making it harder to adjust your speed. i wish it looked more high tech like the depth raider but it works great. Check out http://outdoorsmenproshop.com/ they will ship and their customer service is great. I am in walking distance to the store.

Matt i finally had a couple minutes to watvh the video. That is an old school way of fishing on erie. We were doing that when i was a kid to see white bass and perch. It works but the chamberlains for the extra 7 bucks a piece are very worth the money. we have had really small silvers on before that you dont see the rod shake using the offshore release so instead of fishing your dragging around a drowned fish. As far as how to set up chamberlains for depth raider coated cable cut the wire off the chamberlain release. pass the coated cable through the hole in the release from cutting the wire off. Put a jelly bean between the terminator and the release for a cushion. terminate your cable end. I do mine with the setup to be able to remove my probe. pull the release down to the jellybean against the terminator put a dreamweaver downrigger cable speed bead one to two inches up from the release. Now it is on the cable above the probe where it wont interfere with the probe. cut and remove wire 1. downrigger cable speedbead by dreamweaver. Scottys wont work they are too small and get stuck in the release 2 chamberlain release 3. jellybean The way i rig my terminator so i can remove my probe.

When i am walleye fishing i have them set with moderate down pressure from the rod. and virtually nothing to the lure. i have good hook ups on erie this way. When i do use them for salmon i set them heavy on the lure side. I usually use the walkers lipstick type for salmon. I am going to put the walker blacks style on that have the cable terminators for salmon as i have one on now for my probe and really like it for salmon.

ive been on jimmys boat it works slick as all get up and it wordked fine when we were in some rougher water. and if i didnt have to spend 1100 bucks on my outdrive in june it would be on my boat right now. Next spring i WILL have one.

I have a few go to's flounder pounder mongolian beef pro king green glo green dolphin lemon ice yellow tail These lures put fish in the boat anytime of day for me.
-
I would stay with cable eveything said above about fleas and loosing balls is right on. If you want a stealth presentation run a two or three color off your riggers. It will get you away and deeper than your wire and ball. You will see this and hear this refered to a SWR secret weapon rig.

Sorry to hear that frank. We laid to rest a good friend this weekend also. 57 years old had a heart attack driving down the road. went off road and hit the only tree in this field and was gone before the medics got there.
