I completely agree. Evan loves doing anything with me. Being on the boat, fishing from shore, ice fishing, walking in through the woods, hunting.
-
Your not kidding. Evan is 4 now and it is hard to believe how fast those 4 years have gone by. Thanks everyone. I am excited about it. Hopefully the baby will be born in july so it doesn't mess with walleye season. LOL We will have an ultrasound and find out approx due date next week.
-
I put the cover on last weekend and parked it in the winter storage. Kind of depressing for a great season to come to an end.
-
We just found out yesterday morning that in about 8 months we will be adding a new family member. Evan will have a baby brother or sister.

Stupid GMC secondary spare tire latch
Line Dancin replied to Line Dancin's topic in General Discussion
Well it fixed. not the gm way but it is fixed and works 35 bucks out of pocket and i can now get my spare if i have another flat. The mechanic that did it said he has been doing approximatley 3 a week for the last 6 years if he averaged out how many he has done. -

Line Dancin replied to arbogaster's topic in Salmon Pro's Connection

Stupid GMC secondary spare tire latch

The third wrecker driver new that trick still got towed. I watched the video when i got home. It is so rusted in there that you cant get it to move. I soaked it on penetrating oil and tried last night to no avail for about an hour and said the hell with it.. -
I have a 08 gmc sierra truck. Got a flat on it and tried to get teh spare off. followed the instructions in the manual and tried for over an hour. Figured i was doing something wrong and called AAA. Waited for an hour for the wrecker. He worked on it. Said give me a minute and called another driver. that driver show up two working on it. Another hour goes by and wrecker three shows up half an hour later and the spare still isnt off. Driver two says i can get it off with a torch. NO WAY. so i call onstar to find out i am 1 month out of warranty. tow the truck to discount tire and have them pull the flat and repair the tire. I call GMC oh to bad your out of warranty nothing we can do for you can i schedule you an appt. So i am pissed to say the least. I then find out talking to their service dept that these things usually corrode over about six months and in doing so trips the saftey latch. It is a known problem. I did a search and found hundreds upon hunderds of complaints. I guess they have been using this system for quite a while. I call Detroit world hq to no avail. So i call the dealer back only way they will work on it is if i have the complete assembly replaced for around 600-800 bucks including labor to get the spare down which he said can take a couple hours . And i am told in doing so to expect the same problem in another six months because of winter and salt on the roads. So i call a small shop by the house and he says for 60 bucks he can cut the secondary latch locking finger out and then i will be able to crank the tire up and down at least. So i have a appt sat to get that done. If GNC knows this is such a crap problem why don't they fix it. It is a total rip off. This is one more reason that my next truck will be a Toyota. I had issues with fords when i owned them and i wont own a dodge. So if you own a gmc or chevy with the tire underneath ya better see if your crank system works before you spend six hours on the side of the road to end up being towed because of american made JUNK. Better yet if it doesnt work call GM wold HQ and scream at them about it. Oh by the way my mom and dad own a chevy one year newer and after my experience they checked theirs..... Guess what...... they will be visiting the mechanic that i am taking my truck to.

If you have the old motors you should be able to upgrade them then. -

Ken also make sure your switches are rated for 30 amp. If they are the original switches for the old motors they were only rated at 15 amp. There should be a part number on the side take that number and go to cole hersee's web site and put it into their cross reference and you will get the ratings. that can also cause overheat. if you have the rocker style the place i put the link to is the cheapest for environmentally sealed 30 amp reverse polarity switches. If they are toggle the go to terminal supply on clyde park and 44th for those. Diane or Stephanie will have them in a couple days if they dont have them in stock. They usually have a couple for the machine shops in the area. Best place for the wire is also terminal supply i believe you can buy the two wire 12 ga in the jacket in 25 ft spools from them. I got mine at work when i was doing parts at the dealership. ALso make sure to put in a switch somewhere to turn on and off the power to the riggers. I have a six ga wire that runs down from the battery switch to a terminal block that two riggers hook to on each side. when i turn off the batteries to the boat it also cuts the power to the riggers and stops any sort of electrical drain. -

The tan ones were before my time lol. I think the tan one had the one inch motor covers not really sure but Doug said to do it on those all you had to do was change out the motor covers to the two inch covers. When doug said it could be done and neil said it couldnt be done i took apart one of my tourney series and put the motor in the old rigger and it fit so i went ahead and bought all the stuff and in about two hours had both riggers upgraded. And i do agree the new motors are awesome. with yours overheating do you have the wires from the battery to the switch upgraded to 12 ga wire. I had an issue at first with the 14 ga doing that so i bought the 12 ga bonded wire and havent had an issue since i changed that. -

When i redid mine i used all 12 ga wire with 30 amp fuses in heavy duty fuse blocks. -

Ken not true my dads were the gray ones from about 1981. The motors went in a little tight but just fine. I painted them black with plastibond to make them look like the other new two that i bought. Also daves (Connie Jay in ludington) four that he had done were all the gray ones. His are still gray. Doug Stryanski (yeck and walker service center) did daves four for around 150 each last winter. If the motor covers are only about 1 inch wide those are the ones that cant be upgraded unless you put the 2 inch motor covers on. Neil wouldnt give me this info Doug did then i got the parts from neil as i was working close to him when i did the upgrade. Neil swore up and down it wouldnt work. new high speed motor installed you can see the gray in the motor cover that i didnt paint: YOu can see this is the gray riggers: Rigger with the top rocker 2 inch cover: Brian if your motors look like this they are the high speed. if they look like on my planer mast they are the old motors. I also upgraded the rod holders to the duals from the old single solid aluminum holder that was on these. -

If you do change them out and you walleye fish. here is an idea for the old motors. I built a power head for my mast. Ordered a couple used spools from neil for 15 bucks each and some hardwood a couple reverse polarity switches and a couple hours later built this. Saved about 400 bucks building this instead of buying a power head. I did have the worm gears reversed. they used to have the keyed washers on the old motors you can see in the pic on the worm gear it was keyed. the new ones have the flat -

I know they changed to the keyed drag washer but not exactly sure when. I am not really sure how to tell the difference in the motors. When i did mine they looked like the same thing. except the old motors were all black and the new were silver uppers and copper colored lowers on the motors. -

yep 133 per motor. Motor and worm gear are like 120 each if i remember correctly. they changed the worm gear so you have to replace both parts. They also use different drag washers they are keyed instead of a flat spot. Comparing 400 for a new rigger i opted for motors. -

The 133 was per rigger i didn't make that to clear. -

I did the work myself. I believe i had 133 into everthing. That was motor new worm shaft and new drag washers. I also had to get new switches as the old ones were only 15 amp and i had to go to 30 amp reverse polarity switches. I ordered a pair of them for 25 with shipping included. Mine had the top rocker switch: http://www.gamainc.com/site/epage/130244_941.htm Neil will say that it cant be done. But i was able to get it to go together. It was a tight fit. You can also call Doug at the walker shop in ludington. He is a lot cheaper than neil on doing the swap over if you want them to do it. Had a friend do all four of his last winter. I think he paid 150 ea and doug also replace the motor bushings. -

if its the older motors 12 lb work but slow. They wouldnt pull 14s. i upgraded the motors in my two older ones and now can pull 15s all day long no problem. -
Nice job jimmy. If ya need help cutting it up let me know.
-
I have used gamma then went to seagaur abrax which was a good line but a little more expensive. For walleye i always used p-line flourocarbon in 12lb for leaders.
