After another discussion on another board of a guy having a fire and loosing everything for fishing I thought I would share what I do with my insurance agent. When I was a kid I used to HATE doing an inventory for my dad’s boat. His insurance company required it yearly to carry a rider to cover the removable equipment on the boat. This is a good winter project. What I do is create a spreadsheet with everything on the boat that is classed as removable. Your insurance company will cover anything that is permanently mounted to the boat under your general policy. For equipment that can be removed they only cover x amount depending on your policy. Mine will only cover two thousand dollars. With my hds being 600 and my subtroll another 350 that almost makes up almost half of what they will cover and my 4 riggers making up the rest. So I carry a rider to cover the rest of my equipment on the boat. It’s an additional 9 bucks a month for 10,000 coverage from theft or sinking. I asked if he wanted an inventory and at first said no it wasn’t required but if I wanted to provide it to him it may help in that instance of loss. So I began the process in 2006 of every winter while cleaning and sorting my equipment to keep a spreadsheet going. Now the agent said he didn’t need specifics but just a way to calculate the total of say a tackle box and a way to prove proof of ownership of said contents. So when I clean out a tackle mate that has spoons in it, I list manufacture of spoon, mag or standard, quantity of each spoon, cost of each spoon. I also take pics of each “file” in the tacklemate and create a folder labeled for each box. I list all the rods makes and models and prices. All safety equipment coolers cannon balls and anything else that could be stolen. Everything gets a picture taken. I also add anything new that I buy over the winter and get a pic and add it to the correct file I then save it to a thumb drive take it to his office before I load the boat in the spring, and he copies the entire file. That way if a claim has to be made he already has all the info at hand and proof to submit the claim.

Just to let you guys know Grandville Gander has their fishing dept at 25% off as well as most of the store. They are doing a store wide clearance and remodel reset to try and compete with cabelas when it opens. I went in to look for ice fishing gear and there are signs everywhere. It looked like a going out of business sale. I got a great deal on 8" DW Flashers for 4.89 each (i bought them all ).

One piece of advice from learning the hard way. Stay away from the V sharpeners that have the carbide cutting inserts. they will start to gouge the blade and destroy it if you cant hold the knife at a perfect constant pressure and pull it through at the same speed each time.

Dont know that you really need structure scan for salmon fishing. That would save you a few bucks. I have a hds 5 gen 1 and love it. The gen 2 is really nice with a faster processor. I love my Lowrance unit. People say they are difficult to use but i really dont see it. You have to use ir a little and you will remember where the items are in the menus. As far as seeing things on it i have not had an issue with mine it show everything i need to see for fishing. I also have the sirius weather real time weather and LOVE it.

If you guys come down to the fishing show in GR there is a group from the other side of the state that has good quality spoons at a good price. i believe 5 for ten bucks, also they are a good place to buy harness components. http://dbfishing.com/walleye_spoons.htm I use a lot of these on erie as well as the spoons jans netcraft sells that you assemble. As far as colors as long as it has a copper back i seem to do better on erie not sure about the bay. Of course silver streaks. I have boxes full of em. One i dont like is Stingers walleye sppon as the paint is off of em in a couple fish or they get bent getting them out of the packaging. I like to run JRs on my slide diver lite bites both high and low divers. the rest typically mini sized spoons. Tony gave you some great info on the bay. pretty much same things on erie. If you are going to pull meat make sure you have a way to get your boat down to about a mile and a half an hour. Also at the show is the place to get the big jon mini divers there is a guy that is from the bay city area that sells them 3 for 12 bucks. They are 6 bucks every where else. AS far as weights for harnesses cabelas has the best price on rubber cores and bottom bouncers. I like 1 1/2oz and 2 oz bouncers and one ounce and .5 ounce rubber cores. With the rubber cores i can get what ever weight i need that way 1.5 or 2 oz depending on how deep you want them to run.

I agree with what has been said above. I use my big boards for walleye (hence the question) as you are fishing the same depth with every line (5 lines per board 70 ft back) on that board line. For salmon the big boards are put in the garage and i use inlines for reasons stated above. Only other time we used big boards was when we used to fish st joe for coho on my dads boat. Again all lines set to the same length like for walleye fishing.

Are you planning on using them for walleye of salmon?
-
I use them on my electric fillet baldes also, and also household serrated knives.
-
My dad and i have been using these for years. They are hands down one of the best sharpeners i have used.
