When fishing i typically have my sensitivity at 80% or better. Looking at the pic you may have to kick it forward one click to start. the trick is getting the boats angle at running set right on the trailer. then set the transducer parralel to the ground. once it is parralel click it forward one click. What Lance was telling me is if it is parrallel to the ground while running you are over running the signal coming back to the unit. so if you go one click forward the return is coming back while the transducer is still able to pick up the return. it will also still function fine while trolling. although you may not pick up your cannon balls as easily.

I have one of thos berkley line counters that clamp to the rod and have a sheet printed from the calculator on my different reels so if i do loose something i look at my sheet clamp on the counter and fill to capacity properly every time. Line counter is 13 bucks at bass pro and well worth it for making up rigs. 45 lb copper and lead core work through it also. Dont get the rapala or shakespear as copper wont work through those. Forget that reverse rewinding your wasting time that you could be fishing.

Can you post a better pic from the side so we can see the angle of the transducer. What transducer do you have the 83/200 or the 50/200. I found out mine was at the wrong angle. Also i am changing my transducer to the 50/200 for deep water but keeping the 83\200 for Erie for the wider angle. as it is supposed to be better in water over 150 ft than the 83/200. Lance Valentine helped me with mine. We got the boat on a level surface. adjusted the angle of the boat with the trailer jack to the running position then adjusted it so it was parallel to the ground once it was parallel we tipped it towards the bow one click in the bracket. Tested it and had to adjust it a second click forward. That made a big difference and i still pic up everthing i need for fishing. I can actually make out fish while running now. Once i corrected that i was able to run at 33 and see bottom. also turn your ping speed up to 75% and sensitivity up to 85% while running and that helps to pic up the signal and bottom better.

For the holland area my 225 and 300 45lb opti coppers have been the best for me mid to late season. for the early part my 45lb 150s work great. anything less than 150 is lead core 7 colors 5 3 2 colors.

we tried the single hook fad in the early 80s on my dads baot. Didnt really notice and real difference in hook ups and lost fish. Buy owner trebles instead. I think the ones i get are called stingers - 36. I get them from outdoorsman in jenison bu the 50 ct bag. You wont be sorry. Then you'll see a hook up difference.

I would like to come but if i do it will be last minute. I know one weekend we have to clean out an office we are closing down but i am not sure what weekend we are going to be working yet.

Went to gander today what a zoo the line was all the back to the tackle counter. It is pretty picked over for sure. I guess the mngt at dicks is freaking out also about cabelas going in.

same here i have a 6 in lazer on one. My buddy has the gator. Im too cheap for as little as i get out ice fishing the drill work just fine.

Sorry to hear of your luck. I've heard some negative reviews on that thing. Better to get an ice gator. A bit more money but it will cut through anything and last a long time. more holes than my friend that owns it can cut in a day. and he cuts holes everywhere.

So i bought two spools of 20 lb big game last year the first i opened and used last year was clear. the second said it was clear but was green when i opened it. Of course i just found out tonight over a year later. Has anyone used green line recently. whats your thoughts try it or use it for something else. This will be used on my 4 rigger rods only.

Got the following email just a little while ago. Great news for Holland. West Michigan Weather Buoy Update - Its returning next year! Its been a few months since I sent an email update about the Holland Buoy project that we completed in 2012. In my last update I mentioned that we were uncertain what would happen in 2013 and weren’t sure if the buoy would return or not. Since my last email we received dozens of emails from people across West Michigan who wanted to see the buoy return and everyone said that the data from the buoy was invaluable to them. Thank you to everyone that submitted an email! Its great to know our project was so well received last year! As a result of the success this email update is being sent out to almost 200 individuals who have expressed interest in the project. The pilot project was supported in 2012 by the Holland Convention and Visitors Bureau, Holland Board of Public Works, and Louis Padnos Iron and Metal. NOAA Coastal Storms Grant through GLOS In June 2012 (even before the Holland Buoy was launched), LimnoTech applied for a grant from the Great Lakes Observing System (www.glos.us) to fund the placement of a seasonal weather buoy in West Michigan from 2013 to 2015. The original source of the grant money was through the NOAA Coastal Storms Program (http://csc.noaa.gov/csp/) to improve the prediction of rip currents and high wind and waves in West Michigan through the use of a real-time near shore weather buoy. I am happy to say that we won this grant through an open bidding process! This $100,000 grant will fund a large part of the purchase, the deployment, maintenance, and retrieval of the weather buoy for the next three years. As part of our discussion with the National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids about the best location for the weather buoy we both agreed that the buoy should be placed between Grand Haven and Holland so that both communities could benefit by having a weather buoy close by. This means that the weather buoy will be deployed off of Port Sheldon next year at about the same depth, which is approximately 6 miles north of where it was deployed in 2012. As a result of the move the buoy will have a new identification number through NOAA. I will email that out in the spring once I know it along with the links to access the data in real-time. So the Grand Haven/Holland weather buoy is here to stay for at least three more years! Opportunities for Support - Water Temperature at Depth and Webcam The NOAA grant is covering the cost to measure the minimum requirements of what the National Weather Service requires on a weather buoy (wind speed and direction, air temperature, relative humidity, pressure, wave height and period, and surface water temperature). The grant is not going to support additional sensors that might be more valuable to other users groups in the West Michigan Area. This could include a string of temperature sensors to measure water temperature all the way to the bottom or a webcam to provide a real-time image and video of current conditions. The temperature string that was on the buoy in 2012 was a used one from another project and failed in September. If any individual or organization or business would like to contribute to the addition of these items on the buoy for 2013 please let me know ASAP. I’d be happy to provide more detail on either of these additions. The cost to add water temperature sensors all the way to the bottom would be approximately $5,000 and the cost to add the webcam would be about $5,000. Any sponsors would be recognized whenever possible including on the website displaying the additional data. The sensors would be redeloyed through at least 2015 with no additional funds. Unfortunately I am not able to provide any tax deductions for these items and my company is not able to accept funds smaller than $1,000. If another organization would like to raise money to see these sensors added please contact me and I can provide you the information.
