  1. Its not quite happening that way though and that whats going on already. the bikers have more power than the hunters and it has been a nasty fight on the issue of closing off hunting on the bike trails. And the problem is when the equine groups are out there that whole area is closed off. So if your theory were true i should be able to small game hunt or bow hunt in those woods while the Equine groups are there. Which i cant the dnr comes in and padlocks the gates to the parking areas when they are there.
  2. i also have mixed feelings on this. I do think the dnr neeeds more revenue but some of the stuff the dnr is doing with license money is not in the better interest of people that hunt and fish.. First is the horse clubs around the state. They pay NOTHING to use the state land. But in the fights in lansing the outdoors groups lost to the equine groups. The state now has to provide groomed trails for the horse clubs at the lands of their choosing. They groom these trails monthly. There is NO revenue coming in from these groups to the state that our money is required to pay for creating and maintaining these trails. When these groups go to an area to do their rides it is CLOSED to the public. How is that fair when my hunting and fishing license money go to maintaining these lands for me to use. There excuse is the guns scare the horses. One of these trails was in a dog park that the state has for field training in the highland area. My Dad and i were asked to leave with his dog before they called the COs on us. Second Bike groups. See above exact same thing. The new fight in lansing for the state land that has bike trails near the pontiac and st clair shores are is that they want hunting CLOSED on the lands that have these bike trails. Wait a second they paid NOTHING for these trails. Third we were at Holland state park and counting the people walking in that didn't have the tag on their license plate with Dave Agema. We counted 348 people walk in in less thean an hour. If we followed other states and charged for walk ins for these parks that is revenue. Most states charge a walk in fee of 2 - 5 dollars. The problem is this is in the state constitution and needs an amendment to the constitution which has to have enough signature on a petition to get it on the ballot. Forth the giving of state land to of all groups the Metro Parks. Over a hundred acres was handed over to metro parks because pontiac state park didn't have the revenue to maintain these lands. it was forest land for hunting. Their was no maintenance done at these areas It is now closed off to hunting and turned into a golf course. Fifth the trade of state land (hunting area) for other lands. There was 300 acres that were traded off to an airport so they could expand which never happened. the trade land is in the inner city areas guess what no hunting. Before i agree to pay more for license fees there needs to be some serious changes.
  3. Same here Mark we need more ice and snow. Man i hate saying that four letter word. We were at the marina on Lake Erie this weekend and there is a sand bar that has the marina cut off from the lake. last year we were able to motor over that sand bar. this year i doubt you could get a canoe through the creek running through the center of it. the shallow bay to the north of the marina that usually has about two ft of water is dry. I'm talking sand and rock no water dry.
  4. Welcome aboard. this is a great bunch here.
  5. there are plenty of guys on here that will be willing to help you out just ask any question that you have. I fish out of holland and can answer questions for ya. What are you running on your boards. Leadcore, coppers?
  6. thanks for the link Matt the one on their website isn't working.
  7. what times your seminar matt we will be down there.
  8. that was just the first video i found. I use a straight edge knife for skinning its a 9 in buck. I also have seen what you are saying in the second part. what my one buddy dies is starts at the last bone in the fillet cuts down to the skin then towards the tail. Now that whole piece is boneless. then cuts the hole and takes off the other piece from the skin. he then takes that piece and cuts on each side of the bones about the thickness of a piece of bacon and the whole fillet is boneless.
  9. water levels permitting brest bay is five minutes away from sterling. I get a seasonal slip there and camp at sterling. http://www.brestbaymarina.com/ there is also this place i havent stayed there. they were booked when we were looking for a slip at the time and ended up at brest bay. http://riverraisinmarina.com/?page_id=4
  10. I tried the 44s last year. man them things fly out to the side with a 450. its like using the 22s with no wieght on them at all. I thought it was a gimmik at first but now for anything 300 and over it goes on the 44s. I now have a second set of 44s for this coming season. I even think they out run the other boards. as far as getting around the wire no problem what so ever. I do understand what you are saying with your customers and not having to fight the boards. I do have a questions with the double keels will they pull hard at real slow speeds i'm talking 1.3 to 1.7. When i am pulling cranks for walleye, the boards sag quite a bit and i have messed with string length to get it better. but i still get a lot of sag in my lines.
  11. Stinless wire is used for dives to get more depth out of your divers. Completey different then coppers.
  12. i run both I use 2, 3, 5, 7, and i do keep a 10 color. Sometimes they want the 10 color and not the 150 copper. Last year my 7 color was one of my best lines in the water. I do agree with nick each has their day. The 2,3,5 colors are more for spring, when the fish are in shallow, or if we find a nice scum line with steelies at the surface. for copper i run all 45lb opti copper. 2 150s 2 225s 2 300s 1 450
  13. Talked to aaron down in sagatuck he sells it and the antenna. He was telling me that they had major issue with it at first. The first run of it had a solid copper wire that was breaking inside the stainless cable. The new stuff is stranded and less problems. When i asked him if he thought it was worth it he said he didnt think so. to stay with the coated cable.
  14. heres a video i found on you tube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETSKgTP4rtg
  15. I even take it off for fish boils. Some if it will flake a little the real thin pieces on the edge but for as long as its in the water to just cook it through i havent had any problem with it falling apart. I use fillets not steaks when doing a fish boil.
  16. Outdoorsman has an open house every year before the fishing show. They typically have lower prices in store during their open house than at the show as they arent paying for booth space.
  17. Off always. I never leave it on. remove the lateral line fat. It totally changes the taste of the fish. You dont get the strong taste people complain about. I grill and smoke a ton of salmon without the skin and never have issues. for grilling you just cant flip it a bunch of times, cook till done on one side flip once and finish. Never an issue. For smoking to make it release from the racks i use grilling pam (same for grilling fish) and never have a piece stick and my grate clen up super easy in the dish washer that way. I also like the way the brine penetrates into the meat better. The other thing i like is it changes the texture of the fish yo0u dont have that slimy side while eating from the skin being on.
  18. Fields fabrics had some in grandville
  19. trolling into the current is the best way to troll as the fish orientate themselves with the current. typically into the current. The way you can tell is by watching both your diver and your boards. for example if your boards are pulling harder on the right you need to turn left to get more into the current. when they are all pulling the same then you are straight into the current. I find the boards show me more surface current and my divers show me depth current better. same theroy with your diver rods. one will pull harder than the other. There are days the surfacce current is completely different than your depth current. when that happens i watch my diver rods to tell me where the current is coming from.
  20. Has anyone tried this product out called UV Blast. Supposedly it is a temporary spray to give lures a uv glow. http://www.basspro.com/DoIt-UV-BLAST!-Lure-Spray/product/10205321/ If you have tried it whats your opinion.
  21. Exactly. when you are running 10 lines for walleye all 70 ft back the otters are the way to go. When different lengths are involved inlines are the only way to go as you can pass a 150 cu orver a 300 cu and not tangle it with on inline. On an otterboat your have to pull the 300 to retset the 150 back out further.
  22. done...
  23. like what was said above. otterboats for walleye inlines for salmon.
  24. it was there. i was waiting till today to rejoin. but that offer is gone it looks like.
