We used to use 4 Size 1 divers, 2 on setting 3 and 2 on setting 1 1/2. Last year we started using the Magnum divers as our "low" divers on wire rods. We now use 2 Magnum divers on setting 1 1/2 and 2 Size 1 divers on setting 3 when fishing with flashers and flies only. Otherwise, for example earlier in the year, we still use 4 Size 1 divers when fishing with spoons. We only use the Magnum divers with wire rods and flashers and flies. The Magnum divers are extremely effective for getting down deeper with less line out as the ratio is close to 2:1 instead of 3:1. Hope this helps and good luck!!!

Fishing continues to be extremely good out of Grand Haven! Limit catches of large King Salmon (10-18 pounds) are being taken along with a few Coho Salmon, Steelhead and Lake Trout. The majority of the fish being caught are from 70-140 feet of water. Downriggers 40-95 feet down, 8-15 colors of Lead Core, 150-300 feet of Copper and Divers 125-210 feet back have all been producing well. The current has been from the South for a numerous amount of days so the fish have been constantly on the move. The Carmel Dolphin Stingray and regular-sized Stinger continues to be the hottest bait of the year!!! The Blue Cory's Bait Stingray, Blue Bubble Stingray, Lime Tuxedo Stingray, Die Hard Stingray, Yellow Killer Stingray, Stinger Pox Stingray, Lemon Ice Stingray, Double Kevorkian Stingray, Cory's Bait Stingray, Glo Dolphin Stingray, Natural Born Killer Stingray and the Blue Veggies Stingray have all been consistently producing spoons. More and more fish are being taken on flasher/fly combinations everyday. An 11 inch Pro-Troll HotChip White/Glow flasher with an Oceana Rapture Fly or a Frosted Fern Rapture Fly have been consistent producing rigs every morning. Also, an 8 inch Pro-Troll ProChip Green/Glow flasher with a Hypnotist LG Rapture Fly or Wild Fern Rapture Fly has been producing as well. The 8 inch Pro-Troll ProChip Blue/Glow flasher with the Blue No-See-Um Rapture Fly or Blue Hypnotist Rapture Fly has been working consistently every morning. Also, the Custom Fishing Products Blue Bubble 8 inch Pro-Troll ProChip flasher with the Blue Bubble Rapture Fly has been extremely good as well. The 8 inch Pro-Troll ProChip Chrome/Green and Coyote colored flashers have also been working well with the Wild Fern Rapture Fly or Green No-See-Um Rapture Fly. Also, the 8 inch Pro-Troll ProChip Chartreuse/Glow flasher with the Yellow No-See-Um or Citron Rapture fly has been very good once the sun gets up and is very bright, especially during the afternoon. For those anglers who like to fish early in the morning or stay out late at night, the new Stinger Nitro Glow Spoons have been beginning to produce fish. The Nitro Dolphin Stingray, Twister Stingray and Nitro Pox Stingray have been producing a few fish each every morning. Hopefully the wind and waves will calm down for awhile so everyone can get out and enjoy some of this fantastic mid-July fishing!!! Good Luck to everyone!

Deep Fried Lake Trout... MMMMMMMMMM. Anyone who hasn't tried it, you have to try it. I would prefer to catch and eat 12 Lake Trout over 12 Salmon on any given day. Lots of people tend to bad mouth Lake Trout, but if you haven't tried it, give it a chance!!!

The Stinger Stingray size has become very popular over the past few years. The Stingray is a size between the regular Stinger and the Magnum Stinger. The regular-sized Stinger still is very good as well. Some of the must have colors from the past few years have been the Natural Born Killer, Mixed Veggies, Carmel Dolphin, Blue Veggies, Lemon Ice, Cory's Bait, Glo Dolphin, Blue Dolphin, Green Dolphin, Seasick, Holly Christmas, Jawbreaker, Double Orange Crush, Hawg Wild, Blue Cory's Bait, Stinger Pox, Can't Afford It, Blue Mongoose, Freakin' Veggies and Chip's Shanster. These are the major colors that we use out of Grand Haven and all are Stinger colors. Welcome back to fishing and Good Luck! Feel free to ask any other questions you may have regarding anything!!!

There has been some fish in the 90-110 foot depths early in the morning, but the better fishing has been from the 160-210 foot depths. Fishing from 35-110 feet down has been pretty good. 5-15 colors of Lead Core have been good as well. Fishing to the North and South has been pretty much the same. The Carmel Dolphin Stingray has been very consistent over the past few weeks along with the Natural Born Killer Stingray, Double Orange Crush Stingray, Lime Edge Stingray and Cory's Bait Stingray! Good Luck!!!! -

Grand Haven Report June 4
HitMan replied to HitMan's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Thanks Phil! We made one of the largest comebacks I can ever remember in the PRO division... 19th to 4th! Yes, Chip is still running the Hit Man. He is in his 30th year of chartering full-time out of Grand Haven!!! -
We have had very good luck with an 11 inch Pro-Troll ProChip White/Glow flasher with an Oceana Rapture Fly. This has by far been our best and most consistent rig day in and day out from St. Joe to Whitehall. Another good producing rig has been an 8 inch Pro-Troll ProChip White flasher with a Hit Man No-See-Um Rapture Fly or an Oceana Rapture Fly. These two rigs caught the majority of our large fish in the St. Joe and South Haven tournaments. Other flies that have been producing well behind 8 inch Green Glow, Blue Glow and Glow Green Hot Tiger Pro-Troll ProChip flashers have been the Last Supper Rapture Fly, Hypnotist LG Rapture Fly, Blue No-See-Um Rapture Fly and Green Dude Rapture Fly.

2007 SW. Mich. Steelheader's Summer Challenge (RESULTS)
HitMan replied to caznik's topic in Tournaments
You are correct! You don't have to fish a minimum of 3, that is just for the Yearlong Overall Standings for each division if you do fish the minimum of 3. You can fish the 333 at whatever event you fish. You will still be able to win 1 of the 21 prizes at whatever individual event you fish. You have it completely figured out. -
South Haven May 13
HitMan replied to HitMan's topic in Michigan Waters Fishing Reports - Salmon and Trout
Actually we came to South Haven blind. We hadn't talked to anyone and had no clue where to fish. We went straight out of South Haven and waited until the water warmed up to 48 degrees. We based that temperature off of previous St. Joe fishing conditions. Another boat we later talked with left the Municipal Marina at 10AM and was back to the slip at 2PM with 23 fish; 6 Steelhead, 6 Kings, 10 Cohos and 1 Lake Trout fishing the similar water from 150-210 feet. There were no major temperature breaks, just a gradual increase in water temperatures. Most of the fish were full of bait as well. -
2007 SW. Mich. Steelheader's Summer Challenge (RESULTS)
HitMan replied to caznik's topic in Tournaments
Thanks a lot! The 333 Tournament is at every Tournament Trail sponsored event and is divided into the South Division and North Division. You weigh your 3 largest fish of the tournament, but the hard part is gambling to see if you should weigh 2 on Saturday or 0 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday, etc. Then your total weight for the 3 fish places you in the standings. You earn points based on a 100 point scale for 1st place, 99 points for 2nd place, 98 points for 3rd place, etc. and then your 3 best point events (you have to fish a minimum of 3 tournaments, if you fish more your best 3 count) add up and that is how you finish in the year long standings for numerous prizes and money, etc. -
We use normal 30 pound 7-strand Mason wire. I don't know anything about the cheaper G-Fly wire. We have never had any issues with the Mason wire.

We relocated the boat Saturday afternoon from St. Joe, in some very rough water, to South Haven for a charter on May 13. We ended up 15 for 26 with 5 Kings, 5 Steelhead and 5 Coho being caught. The best water was 150-180 feet of water. We had 7 bites 50 feet down with a Stingray Green Dolphin and a regular-sized Stinger Green Dolphin on the slider. A Stingray Green Dolphin on 10 colors of Lead Core also had 4 bites. Copper set-ups of 150 feet and 225 feet also took fish along with 3 colors, 5 colors, and 8 colors of Lead Core. Other lures that worked were regular-sized Stinger Lemon Ice, regular-sized Stinger Carmel Dolphin, regular-sized Stinger Bitter Lemon, Stingray Double Edged Kevorkian, Stingray Coyote, Stingray Dolphin, Stingray Freakin' Veggies and Stingray Green Bubble. We will be fishing out of South Haven for the remainder of the week in preparation for the tournament this coming weekend. Good Luck to everyone!
