  3. Our ratio the last two years hasn't change much going in either direction. Once in while the fish seem to strike short on the flies or maybe whack it with their tails. Of course, there are days when you just have bad luck. We had lost a bunch of fish, 3 years ago on our flies. We were running whatever hooks were purchased with the fly, sharpened. When we saw Big Weenie's tourny tie and tandum singles, we switched all our setups to these types, tied with the owner hooks. Great set-up!
  4. Nice Job Mike! We haven't have a hit on our carmel dolphin all season. I guess the all went to visit you this year.
  5. Oink Oink! Those are some pigs right there! Nice job!
  6. Got out at 6:10pm. Setup and trolled wsw, out to 140 fow with no action. As we were coming out we saw huge bait balls in 120 so we trolled back in. Got to 121 fow and the dipsy w no see um fly starts bouncing. Nice 13# king. Dad puts the fish in the box I reset the fly. It barely sits there for 2 mins and its going again, 15# king. Turn around to run back thru the bait ball. Just get straightened out and the 300 copper goes with wrecked em fly, a 6# laker. As I net the laker, my light line rig 80 down with a flounder pounder starts going with a 12# king. Twenty mins later, the copper starts screaming like crazy. This fish went nuts and ripped of 160 ft of line before it slowed down. I thought this fish was huge, turns out the drag was set really low oh well, it worked out ok, boated our 5th fish in 45 mins and nice 11# king. We finished 5 for 5 and headed in at 9:10. 6:10 - 8:14 = 75 flies 0 fish 8:15 - 8:58 = 5 fish ? flies What a night!
  7. Way to go Jarod! Nice fish.
  8. Nice job on the fish.
  9. Tony- LOL You could use her in the carpool lanes too! Too funny. I was just thinking, Could I run like a teaser rig or a paddle without a fly on it, on other rods or downrigger itself,to draw fish in or is that illegal? Thanks guys.
  10. As the fishing season gets into Aug. and Sept., I lose my fishing buddy for a few days here and there. Fishing out of G.H., we have a few days that I would try a solo trip. Given the three rod limit and the many presentations available, what would be your stud setup? We'll say that the fish are out 50- 120 fow, not in the river. What do you run? How do you present it?
  11. Sorry this was last night 8-3 not 8-2
  12. Well we finally made it out again. We had a slight pause in fishing this year due to my baby sisters's wedding. It was an awesome time! Sorry- To the report. Dad, older sister and I went out last night and set lines at 630 in 100 fow. Trolled sw to 140 fow then turned in. I asked Dad to change the spoon on one of the riggers and he found 6# laker hanging on to our green dolphin. Got back in to 119 fow and turned n. Took a hit on a full core on the outside board, never gained anything on the fish- hook pulled . Few mins later, 300 copper with Wrecked em fly starts singing. After a good fight my sis brought in the 12# king. Big smile on her face and a sore arm to boot. About 20 mins later, copper went again, sis reeling like crazy to up with this one. While she was fighting her fish, the dipsy with no see um fly on my side goes off. She lands a twin of her first fish, and I bring in the triplet of the group. Turned e heading in. Started pulling lines at 945. Sis is bring in a copper with a pickled sunshine fly, when she says it feels heavy. She gets it to boat and we net a 7# king. The fish barried the hook in the net so I was messing with that until the dipsy with a jj mcmuffin on Dad's side starts hopping. He brings in another 7# king. 6 for 7 evening out on the lake. Best water was 110- 120 fow. Good times. Keep em' tight
  13. Another nice fish! Nice job Jonas!
  14. I love the Grand Haven Pier setup. Red light, green light and Broadway. When the lighting was put up for all the tourists to walk on the south pier, it gave boaters a clear look at where the channel is located. This was a great relief when coming in from a foggy trip severals weeks ago. I could barely see a 100ft, but spotted Broadway before a saw the pierheads. I agree that there are a bunch of boneheads out there and they come in all different sizes. From the guy in the 14ft rowboat with no lights to the 30 ft crusier that thinks he owns the lake, you have to watch out for everyone. When I come in at night I always have everyone looking forward for boats and other movment in the water. I usually come in on plane but rarely at full power. Keep it safe boys and girls!
  15. I have 7' rods that I run my dipsies on. One rod has a 6' leader and the other has a 10' leader. Some days, one rod takes more than the other and other days they are about the same. The 10' is a little harder to land the fish, so we just walk towards the front of the boat.
  16. Way to go Dave! Sounds like you're getting dialed in.
  17. Ah yes, from the mouths of babes- pearls of wisdom flow.
  18. How can you tell if they are new or old? I picked them up online from Tackle Haven. Thanks for the warning.
