  1. I do the same thing for my spoons. The only ones I haven't changed are the JP Slammer hooks. Jimmy puts VNC hooks I believe. It makes you wonder why others can't put quality hooks on their spoons.
  2. The drags from Tuna, you don't grease. The bearing and gears with a light coat grease. *Personal thought* - If you have the felt drags, I would suggest to change them to carbon drags. Soooooo much smoother.
  3. I maintain mine reels pretty much the same as Mike described. I use a grease my gramndpa used on turbines, stuff is awesome. If I need parts, I go to Tuna Toms to get them. It is definately cheaper to do your own mantainance.
  4. I second the fles flicker. This is my first year running it and couldn't be happier. I got no fleas on me.
  5. Nice job Scott. Keep up the good reports!
  6. I've been using longer leads on the dr's, 40-50 back. Wonderbread, smashmouth spoons have been getting hits. My divers were 125 and 150 back on 1.5. Been pulling no see um, hybrid yogurt, ans polar ice flies. Several really nice fish taken on these setups. Also have run a couple of spoons on the dipsies, JP slammer NBK and glow fire dog took most hits.
  7. Welcome Mike. This is a great site. Lots of good people here.
  8. Nice job getting into some fish!
  9. Nice Job! Sounds similar to the fishing in Grand Haven.
  10. Dad and I headed out last night at 6pm. Set lines in 50 fow heading north. Before we got setup, a 15# king took the 4 color with a Craig's Christmas when dad was putting it into the rod holder. Finished setting up, and decided to raise on of the downriggers to 20ft. It went 10 mins later, #13 king on a smashmouth. Hung around the area the rest of the evening. Didn't get another hit till 9:20pm. Nice 12# king took an oceana fly behind a blue bubble flasher on our 7 color. Pulled lines at 9:45 and found a shaker on the 4 color, Craig's Christmas. Super bumpy early on with all the boat wakes. Bait and water temp was good, so it was worth it. Heading home this week to take a trip to Boundry Waters in MN, so I don't know when I'll get back out there. Good luck! Keep um tight!
  11. Nice job keeping the skunk out of the box. It was a great night to be on the lake.
  12. That's a haul! Nice job guys.
  13. Way to go Don. Gotta love the family time. I love every minute with my dad in the boat, fish or no fish. Although, I have to admit, with fish makes it even better.
  14. Headed out with my dad and my cousin around 6pm. Set up in 70 fow trolling ssw. First hit was on black and yellow UV Hybrid Yogurt fly off a dipsy 150 back, 5# laker. Next fish, same setup, 5# king. Third fish same setup, 7# laker. We had one more hit, this was on a blue bubble flasher fly combo. Fought the fish for couple minutes then the hook pulled. This was all before 8pm. Got nothing the rest of the evening, pulling lines at 9:45pm. Water is changing again, so good luck. Keep um' tight!
  15. Took my cousins out last night. Started setting lines in 70 fow at 6:15. Boated first fish at 6:30 on holo carmel dolphin, big lake lure, 53 dn off rigger. Then nothing for 2+ hours. 8:50 the fun started. Picked up a small laker on polar ice fly on dipsy 125 back. Couple minutes later, small king on mongolian beef 53 down on a rigger. Three minutes later, 11# laker on polar ice fly on dipsy 125 back. Ten minutes later 18# king on lemon ice on 7 color. Then had a double one on a rigger that was lost after tangling copper and 7 color. The other half was on a glow fire dog JP Slammer off a full core 14# king. Pulled lines at 9:40 after the tangle. Best water was 90- 120 fow on north troll. 6 for 7 What a gas watching some rookies reel in some nice fish. Awesome night on the lake with family.
  16. Dave, if you run dipsies, watch the bend of the rod and try to match the bend when you are catching fish. You can do the same thing with the downrigger wire, watching the blow back. Mine start to "sing" at 2.5 at the ball. Watch your GPS sog (speed over ground), you will probably need to go faster when heading into the wind. I'm generally running at 2.2-3.1 sog
  17. I feel your pain. I did the same thing last year. Lesson learned. Get it reset and go kick their tails.
  18. Nice job keeping the skunk out of the boat.
  19. Yeah it was nice not having to go 100 ft down in 200 fow to find a good temp.
  20. Got out last night with mom and dad. Set lines in 70 fow. Temp was 54 at 35 down. Trolled ssw. Got half way to Rosy mound and turned n. Really had to kick up the speed just to get 2mph@ the ball and started working my way out to 120. 101 fow we hooked up on a glow fire dog JP Slammer- 6# king. Then the dipsy at 112 fow with NBK JP Slammer- 10# king. Turn s got nothing, turned n 112 fow 300 32# copper w/ wrecked em fly- 16# king. Downrigger set at 62 in 112 fow with mongolian beef popped, fish was there then gone. Turned s again nothing, so I turned n. 300 setup goes again- 11# king. Coming back from putting that in the box and the rigger set at 50 in 117 fow is bouncing like crazy. Make 3 cranks and a steelie comes flying out of the water, waves goodbye and throws our wonderbread spoon at us. Lot of fun on the warter last night. 4 for 6 and finally a decent night on the water Keep um' tight
