  5. Put in at 6 am and trolled from 110 to 160 ft and back to 130 ft for three hours without a hit. 9 am 6-8 lb Coho(scale battery was dead), downrigger down 60 ft, in 130 fow, north troll, flasher fly, 2.75 mph. 9:15 am, 6-8 lb coho, 225 copper, 125 fow, meat rig, north troll same speed 9:45 am, 110 fow, 225 copper again with meat rig, peeled off what seemed like 200 yards of line, fought it for I’m guessing 25-30 minutes but wasn’t gaining any ground. Finally worked my way back to helm to slow down more and it broke off. Rats. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman

  7. I was one of the O’fers. Marked some bait pods and a few fish in the 125-130 fow but couldn’t get anything to go. Fished from 70-160 Fow. Tried 10 color, 225 copper, rigger and dipsy at different times, various depths and speeds with spoons and flasher flies to no avail. I pulled lines early at 7:30. Definitely not an early bite for me. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  8. Better luck than me! I went 0-1. Lost a Steelhead at the boat when it took a tail dance. I thought he was spent. Shelly snack, rigger down 85 ft, 30 ft back. 2.5 mph sog. North troll. 125 fow. I fished north of the harbor. Beautiful morning. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  9. Great start to the season! Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  10. Good work! I dropped off 6 reels at Tackle Haven to get upgraded drags. They work with mascot reels. First time I’ve done it so not sure how it will work out. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  11. The one whitefish confused me. I am even worse at walleye fishing than I am at salmon. The night bite is a good tip though. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman

  13. Count me jealous! My boat is in storage. Sorry the seas were tough for you though. Off to Menards to buy PVC pipe to make a better pole rack. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman

  15. Ha! I went to Outdoorsman Pro in Jenison last winter to pick up a few lures and such. The guy asked me if I was still out trolling. I said no just spreading out the purchases so my wife doesn’t think my addiction is too severe. [emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  16. Had a little time mid morning so I went out solo and trolled 10-1 pm. Put in at 100 FOW. Trolled out to 160 FOW then back in to 90 ft. Marked a good amount of bait and fish at 130 FOW. 1/1: 6 lb Steelhead, 125 FOW, SWR down 65 ft, brad’s cut plug candy corn with Alewife gel scent. Only a couple of boats out made for a relaxing troll. Still a lot of current to deal with.
  17. I went out this morning and fished from 130 fow to 160 and back. No action. Pulled lines at 8:15 am. Waves were over 3 ft at 140 fow. Tough sledding for a solo run. Lake laid back down at 50 fow. East wind challenges. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman
  18. I fish solo a lot as well. Wearing a life jacket at all times and having shared your plan with someone on shore are musts. I wear an auto-inflating life vest every time. If I stay out longer than my plan I text my wife. When I return and enter the break water I text my wife so she knows I am off the big lake. Seriously considering a wireless kill switch as well.
