  1. The area has finally cleared of the slime.....It was definitely not water fleas...completely different..Some sort of Algae Bloom..
  2. No not with Muskie slime, but with a unknown substance that has moved into the area from Port Austin to Port Hope. At first we all kind of thought it was from willow trees dropping their seeds into the lake like we have had in the past but now were thinking it may be algae stirred up from the bottom. The best way to describe it is Baby poop or Snot. This brown slimy mess covered every line and downrigger cable. It got so bad at one point that it wasn't going thru the ball retrieves on my riggers and I jumped a cable off the spool. Had to hand over hand 50 ft of cable, only to cut it off and get it out. Every rod was covered and quite a few fish were lost as they jammed up your eyelits. Everyones rods, riggers, boats, coats are completed covered in this crap. The snot seemed to lighten up as you got into deeper/colder water +90feet. Needless to say everyone has really struggled the last 4 days of fishing since the wind stopped blowing. Hopefully the lake will clear itself. When you could keep your lines cleared there are still a few kings around with everyone having 1-4 salmon bites a day. Most silver was 5-10lbs.... Trout have pretty much disappeared but most boats were able to scrap 2-3 tickets together from PA to Port Hope. Anywhere from 25-150 fow......
  3. Well we were able to fish this morning out of Grindstone, of course the weatherman was wrong again as we had favorable seas and clear blue skies! Fishing was good as we started off Alaskan Bay and headed west to PA. We only had a couple rods in the water when the first fish (LT) was on his way to the net. We consistanlty took nice trout till we crossed between the light and the can where we ripped a nice king on a mono dipsey 44 back on Mag Glow green Dolphin. The trout again picked uped west of there, off flatrock in 45fow. We then turned and followed our path back and missed a king on a 5 color LC right next to the lighthouse. As we headed east we were able to finish up on our trout and it was then time for breakfast. as it was only 8:30am We had a full box of trout (4 tickets) and a little silver, not bad for a couple hours of fishing.
  4. This was our 3rd renewal, we got our licenses in 1997 so that was way before 2005 so we probably wouldn't get the discount but I'll be sure to ask.....Thx Just checked our status on our cards online and its says they are ready for pickup, great another trip back to Toledo, you would think they could have called us after 12 weeks of waiting!
  5. They never even told my Dad and myself about a discount. They took our $135 EACH with no problems. All there fancy equipment and they still couldn't scan the barcode on our brand new Passports, so she had to do it some other way. Very weird... PS. Still waiting, 10 weeks now
  6. Same here after 8 weeks, its states that its still in production.....Could of had it done at Kinko's in ten minutes..
  7. Been over 8 weeks and still haven't heard a thing since going in for our TWIC cards. Had it done in Toledo when I went down to get finger printed for a renewal. So whenever they call it back to Toledo to get it out of the locked safe. Another $135:eek: and we're supposed to wear it at all times???
  8. Fishing has been tough for the last week. The charter fleet has pounded the waters from Port Hope to Port Austin and even the Laker bite has slowed down. A few salmon have been caught. Mostly small Kings, cohos, steel and and lots of pinks....Good Luck
  9. Trout fishing continues to be good off the tip of the thumb. Saturday brought pretty heavy seas to the area yet the fish didn't seem to mind to much. Mag Streaks, Dodgers and Hoochies all took fish off the riggers, dipseys and Leadcore. We ended up filling 5 tickets of trout in a short time span on Saturday and then went looking for some silver, which only produced some Pinks. Heard reports of some decent Kings/Steel that were brought into HB during the Pro King tourament there, so more Salmon should be arriving soon. Sunday's bite was delayed a bit till mid morning, but when they turned on, they were aggressive. Nicer fish than Saturday. No silver again for the last couple hours of the trip. We released many nice trout hitting baits 40-60 down trolling 2.8-3.2 mph. in our search for the elusive King. Capt. Drew
  10. About an hour as well. We do our best to contact them and usually they have a decent excuse. If they don't have one or we don't here from them there $100 Deposit is gone:
  11. My Dad and I are both Captains and 99% of the time we are both there. If one of us can't make it, we run the trips solo. If and when my Dad hangs it up, I'll run solo daily...

  13. The water has warmed up a bit from last weekend bringing in a few silver fish. We mainly worked 35-45 fow of water from Alaskan Bay past the PA lighthouse to the west. LTs were strung throughout the area with 3 colors of leadcore with Bombers being the hot bait for our limits. We also boated 2 very Kings (8-9lbs) off the riggers. 24-30 down with 125+ leads with Mag Blue and Green Dolphins. Sure was nice to have some drags ripping....Tight Lines Capt. Drew
  14. Got out for a couple hours on Saturday morning. Water in GS remains low in the Harbor and thru the dog leg in the cut. The rest of the channel is fine. We worked west in search of warmer water. We found 47 degree temps from Alaskan Bay to FlatRock. Pods of bait were suspend 18 down over 35-40 fow. Every time we went over them we would pop a fish. Of course all our fish were LTs and went back to fight another day. A few silvers have been caught in the last few days and it should only get better with the warming temps. Good Luck Capt. Drew
